From the author of PAPPY MOSES’ PEANUT PLANTATION At the beginning of the Civil War, one man leads an army of runaway slaves to freedom. The powers that be believe they must not only stop them but make an example of them…by destroying them.
Another amazing story from Mr Q. The only unlikely scenario is how there were so many slaves travelling, yet them not being overcome. This was abit of a stretch; although, what was done in defense was stated. Impressive plotting. Everything else was believable. Everything was well done. I also enjoy seeing how there are so many white people in Q's books that aid in freedom. It is true that if there hadn't been a lot of white helpers, the Underground Railroad wouldn't have been so successful. I'm glad that they're mentioned and not left out. Great book. 5 Stars.
It took me more time than usual to complete this story. While there were parts that caused anger, the story had a realistic cast of characters and situations that occurred during slavery times. Although Iniko was born into a life of slavery, his determination to become his own man overpowered. Iniko's intelligence and ability to lead others kept me reading as his plan of action took effect. Overall, I thought this was an interesting read
This story is how history should’ve been written. Vivid descriptions of black warriors, fighters, fathers and family men doing everything and anything to survive. This book isn’t about war. It’s about black people having the hearts of lions.
A few of the story lines don’t seem plausible but it’s a fiction book so I went along with it. Four **** stars
Slavery destroys lives, families and communities! Fighting for your dignity as a man and your role as leader of your people will either lead you to triumph or death! Sad ending!
The story is well written, engaging, and you can’t put it down, but is the writing a bit trite? I’m not sure what it is, I can’t put my finger on it. All I can say is as far as the quality of the writing, this author can do better.
I loved this book, I laughed, I cried, I cheered and it left me wanting more. Mr Edwin writes with so much depth, you would think he was actually there and witnessed his stories. I'm in love with his writing.
I was at the end before I knew it. I was angry, sad, and so hurt for Iniko for a few minutes before writing this review. Definitely left me wanting more
