Liz Crawford steps off the plane, home after six years in the space program and two in a Texas prison. She expects to be met by her sister, Sara, and to share her apartment, temporarily. Instead, she discovers Sara and two of her friends have vanished. The police are slow with answers, and Liz takes up the search, following the meandering trail of her sister’s life. Along the way, she bends the law, risks her freedom and her life, and learns just what she is capable of in the most extreme circumstances.
No Place To Rest (Liz Crawford Trilogy #1) by D.L. Barnhart is a book from an author I haven't tried before and I was happy I did. It was a pretty good mystery. I loved all the fun details and 'get to know the character' stuff in the beginning. This really helped solidify the feelings and character along the story when it really went wild later. When things started going it got intense. Lots of suspense and intrigue. The end was a bit abrupt and other things left unanswered but I think the author left things that way for future books (?). I enjoyed it. I like new authors that can make me want to turn pages.
GAB I thoroughly enjoyed Liz Crawford. She is spirited, good hearted, bright and a magnet for mystery. What more can you ask for in a protagonist? Paul is sweet, and Carol is not as bad as she seems. Liz will hopefully be back with more adventures.
The insight into lush Kentucky woods was an added plus to this novel. D. L. Barnhart is an author I will follow.
Slow start but great ending for segue to next book.
Slow start, a lot of detail too, in a good way but midway thru a lot started happening and I was hooked till the end. Also kudos to the author for ending where you got some satisfaction for sure, but plenty of anticipation to cause the reader to look for next installment. I've read other "series" where I hated the ending because it seemed to be mid-plot, in a way that makes you want to strangle your e-reader rather than click on the next book. This is an author that kept me turning the pages, and wanting more. Great writing!!
Very slow moving tale of one sister, recently released from prison, trying to find her step sister. It all boils down to silly and quite unbelievable jaunts from here and there with a man who appears shady at times yet dependable at other times. The entire story is a drag; no surprises, no twists or turns, no substantial character development...nothing, zip, zero. Don't waste your money......it never gets interesting or worth following to the end.
The book was okay. I think she was a little too "wonder woman". There were side stories that I don't know the reason for. I found my self just skimming the pages when the story slowed down or got repetitive. It would make a good action movie.
Slow at beginning but great suspenseful ending. I found her style of writing quite different from authors I am used to, but I did enjoy the book and will read her again.
A real page turner. I enjoyed this book, it kept a fast pace and the main character, Liz Crawford, is likable and realistic. This is the first in a trilogy, and I'm sure the next two books will be just as good!
I felt like I had to push myself, at times, to keep reading. A little too wordy at times while describing situations. A bit slow moving but a pretty good storyline.
I literally couldn’t put this book down. I kept jumping from character to character as the whodunnit. Great story! Though I kept hoping Sara would be found alive...
Wonderful story of sisterly love. She went to prison for her sister lost her job spent two years in jail when she came out she found her sister. Read on for more
This wasn't a bad story. Liz Crawford returns home to discover her sister, Sara, missing. She searches for her with the help of her sister's friend, Paul. The tension is slow to build, but gets better toward the end. The story is meant to tug at your heartstrings for the wrongs done to Liz, and the sacrifices she made for Sara. I had a hard time getting emotionally involved with the characters, though. But plenty of others have enjoyed it, so I'd say it's worth taking a look.
I received a copy of this book through the Kindle Scout program.
Very interesting start but with too few details about the main character s personal support and career lost due to her sister. Became very tedious and boring and the ending was terrible.
When the truth is inconvenient, don't bother to use it
One of my main impressions about this book was how evasive the main characters seem. It's understandable that Liz doesn't want to explain that she spent time in prison, but that dishonesty seemed to lead to lots of half-truths and then to illegal activities.
The plot kept me interested, even though I was disappointed in some decisions that Liz made. I thought that some of the twists to the plot involving trouble at the factory provided possibilities to solve the mystery.
This book had been in my stack to read for awhile. I started reading with no clue what the story was about. I must have selected it due to a review I'd read as the author is new to me. So glad I had picked it because it kept me engrossed for remainder of read. The heroine is tenacious, the step mother is in need of a dope slap, and male lead is solid, dependable and worthy. I highly recommend to those who enjoy a well-written murder mystery.
Interesting storyline. A sister's loyalty and concern for her sibling caused her life to be ruined. By covering and trying to protect her she failed to get help.
Nothing better than a book that keeps you guessing until the last minute. Characters seem real and flawed, and believable. The raw need of Liz to find her sister Sara, including the risks she takes , feels true. Good book. Left me wishing for more, which is always the "tell" of a story worth reading.
I read this story and there were times when I forgot to breathe ! I almost yelled out loud to the victims : no, no, don't go there! There were moments of emotion, fear and "ah ha's that kept you just glued to the plot! If you want to escape the hum drum, this thriller can hold you all the way to the end.
