Two dollars, one ticket and six numbers change unlucky Cooper Randall's life forever…

With the vultures circling, Cooper packs up his ailing mother and they head to California to start over.

Hardworking Emma Carlson has learned young to fend for herself. Determined to make her own way, she works as a Waitress at a local Bar and Grill, using the money she earns to pay for classes at the University. She can’t abide by lies and harbors a strong mistrust of most men, yet when Cooper walks into her life, she sees something in him that gives her hope, and pause.

This was found as part of Dancing with Fire. It is the story of a bartender who is made to buy a ticket with money he could use for food and the ticket wins big. Cooper becomes a billionaire and buys a bar but soon finds that everyone wants part of his money. He takes his mother to visit her sister in California.

Emma is a waitress in a bar. She does not like lies. She sees something in Cooper and they become friends and she teaches him how to surf.

What happens when she discovers that he has not told her everything about him - she does not know he is a billionaire. Will she still want to be his friend? Read the book to find out what happens.

I loved this story. It is realistic as most people who come into money suddenly find that everyone wants part of it, though they might not all be threatened by their friends and have to leave town.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book but only because of the cover. Cooper's life hasn't been easy in Atlanta and he has done the best that he can to look after his Mother. Working two jobs to try and make ends meet, Cooper has had to put his dreams on hold. Every dollar he makes is already accounted for so there is nothing left over for extras. So when the clerk at the corner store makes a mistake and prints off a $2 lottery ticket, Cooper tells her he doesn't want it. Not only does he not want it, he can't afford it because buying it means he won't have lunch that day. But what's done is done and he has to pay for the ticket. Emma and her Father have just flown in from California and she decides to go to a bar to have a drink and unwind. It just so happens that the bartender is Cooper and their attraction to each other is instant. But as much as Cooper likes Emma, he doesn't see her as a one night stand. Days later Cooper realizes that he has the winning ticket for the $3 billion dollar jackpot and that is when things quickly start to go wrong. Soon people start to ask him for money and some have even threatened him, so he makes the decision to take his Mother to California to visit her sister. He doesn't tell his aunt and uncle about winning because he needs some time to figure things out. Cooper wants to have a normal life so he decides to look for a job as a bartender and in turn runs into Emma again. But this time things can be different because he may decided to stay in California. Cooper & Emma start seeing each other but things get complicated very quickly. Emma has a jealous ex-boyfriend and he won't take no for an answer. Add that to Cooper's secret of winning the lottery and some dangerous people tracking him down from Atlanta cause things to quickly spiral out of control. Will Cooper & Emma be able to overcome everything that gets thrown at them and still stay together? That is a question that will be answered as well as many more once you read this book...you will love it from start to finish!!! I originally posted this review on another website on June 22, 2016.

Downside of Winning the Lottery

Cooper hasn't had the best of life. Growing up in the bad side of Atlanta and living paycheck to paycheck while taking care of his Mom. He ends up with the only ticket to a $3 billion lottery ticket. He thinks all will be better for him and his Mom, but not so. A gang is demanding he pay them so he and his Mom pack up for Malibu, California and his aunt's place. There he meets Emma.....surfer girl working at a bar and grille to pay her way through college. She is trying to get rid of her violent ex-boyfriend. Together these two help each other with their life struggles, for Cooper, he doesn't tell Emma about the money. Emma doesn't condone liars. Will these two be able to overcome obstacles in their path to find their HEA? Check out this unique story! Received an ARC for an honest review.

I really love this author and this was another great book. I love the story of how money can simply make a person or break them and Cooper does not allow it to ruin his life. When he comes into his billions, he tries to better his life, but keep a simple life and he learns fast who his friends are.

Emma has had a lot of hardships, but wants to love and be loved. To people from opposite sides of the country, but they have similar beliefs and values.

The problem is that neither of them know who they can trust and who they cannot. There also seems to be trouble following them both. Can they overcome their pasts and their trust issues to settle into loving each other and trusting that love.

I received an email asking if I had met Cooper. Cooper being the hero of Windfall. All I can say is HELLOOO Cooper! This is one of the most down to earth characters I have read about. The lottery could not have been won by a more deserving person. This story has its share of suspense, and I loved every moment of it. I highly recommend this story, you can not go wrong with a big lottery win, and hot romance, but the suspense will keep you reading all night.

Nice story but,.....

I liked The Windfall but, it was a little boring. Cooper was nice and Emma was nice all their family was nice however nice people are not that interesting. I had to work hard to complete this book because I kept falling asleep. Their was no heat between the characters and even the small conflict they faced could not fan the flames. I have read other books by Ms Dane and I was shocked by this lackluster story. Better luck next time.

LOVED IT

I absolutely loved this book!!! I love that when Cooper won he just wanted to do the same things he always did, and the fact that he wanted to help Emma was awesome. I'm glad she forgave him for the omission about the lottery.

Enjoyable read

A generally good basic romance, a good storyline where a poor boy in a difficult situation becomes rich overnight meets his soul mate goes through a difficult time and ends with the happy ever after. So a good generic story.
