Twenty years after the events of the first film, the international community recovers and builds up Earth's defenses using technology salvaged from remains of the alien forces. However, the aliens were able to send a distress signal before their final defeat, which results in a new task force of alien ships coming to Earth and threatening the human race once more...

This book has it all, every single character from the original has their time to shine, no one is left out. It also answers a few lingering questions. Fast paced and not too bogged down with flash backs from the first movie. I DID find it helpful to have read Independence Day: Crucible before this (you can if you want to, you don't have to if you don't wanna), it picked up right after the first movie and bridged the gap between the two movies perfectly. If you don't read it, its cool, the bits that refer to it are explained in enough detail that you get the idea. All in all a great fast read, hopefully the movie is as good as what I saw in my mind.
Better than I thought. Story a bit thin (and a too simple ending), but then that is very much to be expected :) For a movie novelization it was actually quite good :)
After recently reading and enjoying independence day I jumped straight into the sequel full of optimism.
I had seen the film that goes with this book and had been disappointed by that.
Not sure if it was because I really held the 1st in high regard or if it really was a let down but it meant I didn't know the story as well as the first.
This book felt a little better than what I had remembered about the sequel and they may be down to the closeness between me reading the previous story but I found it an ok and enjoyable read.
I probably wouldn't recommend it as much as the first book but it may lead to me giving the film a second chance.
I did enjoy reading this but there were to many things that I did not like about how some of the characters were developed in the book and in the film also, but some characters were great like book version of David was very much like his character in the film. But i would of liked to have a bit of difference from the film like most books do but there was not a lot of that in this book, but the action bits were well written and there was some moments of tension.

The writing was good, but the story explained less than the movie. Usually I read movie novelizations because they contain more info about each scene as well as additional background information which can answer some of the questions that I have. But this novelization contain less info than the movie.
I really enjoyed this book. It filled in so many pieces and answered a few questions I had after watching the film. It's for this reason I a huge fan of novelizations. Really cool to just feel imemersed within the universe itself.
Much more interesting than the film as each chapter focuses on one character and gives internal monologues which fleshes out the story. The gay love story between the scientists is given more prominence and overall I felt the character development far superior to the film.
Fajn oddechovka, sympatické postavy a zajímavá zápletka. Bohužel byl děj psaný z pohledu okna jedoucího rychlíku, takže jsem občas nestíhala pochytit, co se děje.
Frightening to think this could happen. An alien invasion twenty years later from Independence Day War of 1996. Very action packed. I never read the first book "Independence Day". However if you read this book first not reading the first book like me, you can still pick up and understand what is happening. I just love reading movie films books, before watching the films. 10/10 from me.
"No matter your nationality, colour, or creed, I ask that all of you pray for us. No matter what our differences, we are all one people. Whatever happens, succeed or fail, we will face it together, standing as one." -Quote from page 306, Independence Day Resurgence. By Alex Irvine.
This is by far an amazing sequel to the first installment in the series (which already had set a high standard!). Most sequels to books that are THIS popular usually flop, being only made as a quick cash grabbing device, gaining popularity from the famous name alone. Opposing that common trend, this book is masterfully crafted, being both serious and quite humorous at the same time, making it fit for almost everyone. The characters were also quite relatable, with all of them having their own minor problems throughout the story, making them feel human. However, this book isn’t just entertaining. It provides a message that if we all work together, we can overcome anything: even what seems impossible. Sadly though, it’s quite underrated. Here on Goodreads, it only has 229 ratings, compared to the original, with 617 ratings. In my opinion, it improves the fictional world established in the first book and fleshes out the characters even further than before (which is why I rated it 5 stars.) So, why not give reading it a shot?
A lot better than id imagined having heard a few bad reviews of the new film. It follows on directly from Crucible and quite onbiously sees the return of the aliens bigger and badder than ever.
Being a novel of a film though it suffers probably the same way the film will (not seen it yet) in that the beginning is good and paced nicely to give a bit of suspense but when the aliens return its all wham bam action with giant alien queens thrown in for good measure.
The end is fairly obvious and open ended but at the same time seems a bit too cosy for me. I guess we'll see where they go with new books and films but I do hope there is more to come.
Novelization….as the movies biggest selling point for me were the effects, I found the book a bit lacking. However, it was concentrating on the story, not wasting too much time on describing visuals, which is good. It also filled in someof the holes and colored a bit of the background - that's always a plus :)
I purchased the book years ago and just could not get into the book in the beginning. In September 2019 I picked it up again and put it down. Today, I told myself I shalt read and finish this book! The book is 353 complete pages long (paperback). So, I am still uncertain I believe in alien invaders, but the possibility might be present. Only time will tell.
