I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up, but I knew it was a bit out of my typical read. I am always interested in the paranormal and this book offers something new in that regard. I've read vamps and werewolves and faeries and witches, but the Irises are something new.

Now here is where I would love to see more development. As far as I know, Irises can control humans. I also know their eyes change colors based on the emotions they are feeling. That's it. I don't know the history or the whys or the hows. And as a reader--or maybe just as a history nerd--these are the things I want to know. I am the weirdo who loves the backstory. I want to know these things. I am not sure if the author intends to give us more in later installments, but it is something I would have loved to see here.

The characters are flawed, but aren't we all? Alec knows Natacha's secret. It's just too bad Natacha doesn't know it. The truth has been kept from her with the hope that she wouldn't be in danger, but that never really works for anyone. However, it does allow Natacha and Alec to become closer, so there's that little bit of fun.

These two are immediately thrown into some sketchy situations, but that only brings them closer together.

All in all, this has great potential. I'm curious to see where it leads and how Alec and Natacha handle the evil that is searching for them.

Eyes, Veronique Poirier’s debut novella, is the first volume in The Irises Series. I love the fantasy element in this book. I mean, come on? Who doesn’t want to be able to read minds and have fantastical powers? I do like how Poirier shares this story in a first-person narrative, mostly switching back and forth between Natacha and Alec, with a deliciously evil prologue and epilogue narrated by Nathalie—a major player in the upcoming sequel. I personally love bouncing back and forth between the minds of different characters, given there is not a cast of 150 to keep up with. I like how the plot is very tight and fast paced; it allowed me to gobble up the story with little distraction. There are some sexy scenes between Alec and Natacha which are nicely done but still leave room for the reader’s imagination to run wild. All in all, I am dropping 4 stars on Eyes for clean writing, the fantasy element, and clear plot line.

This book was so much more than I expected!

Natacha, Alec, a few friends, all are Irises. They have a few super powers that are kind of amazing!

Between finding out who she is and trying to cope with that, Natacha has so much to deal with in such a short amount of time.

It gets crazy and it gets amazing. I was shocked a few times and thoroughly impressed! I love PNR! This author was new to me and I wasn't sure what her style would be like. I can say I genuinely loved this story and can't wait to read more of her work! I need to know what happens next!

I was given this book for a honest review.
I normally don't read paranormal romance, but I thought it might get me out of my reading funk.
This book starts out in the 1900’s and what happens in the opening will change the world as we know it!
Fast forward to present day and we meet Alec and at first you will think he is a stalker the way he follows Natacha around. Then we learn he has a special connection to Natacha! Then once he reveals the truth to her of what he and her are she thinks he is crazy. Till she talks to her parents and she runs back to Alec cause he feels like home to her. They are true love at it's finest. The story flows so effortless that you just know Veronique will be one of the Authors who will always deliver a great book. I very seldom give a book 5 Stars but I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Paranormal Romance! Happy Reading!

A MUST READ PAGE TURNER!!
I was gifted this for an honest and 100% SPOILER FREE REVIEW. This was my first read by Veronique and it won't be my last.
This story is so well written that I was easily able to visualize every word. Who is Nathalie, or WHAT is she? Who is Natacha and what makes her so important that everyone wants her? Why do some want her alive, while others want her dead? When her powers come to her she doesn't even notice them; however this puts her in great danger.
In comes Alec, Natacha falls hard and fast for this sexy man. Is he really a man though? Is his intent true, does he actually want to help her? Or are his good looks and knowing exactly what to say just a ploy to deceive this damsel in distress? Can't forget about his team, who are they really?
This was absolute perfection for an 18+ audience. Veronique knows exactly how to write PHENOMENAL sex scenes and does not go overboard at all. She also sticks to the point. This story is an absolute MUST READ. It does end on a cliffhanger and I can't wait for the second installment.
She has definitely become one of my new Favorites.

Well, this was certainly different. Though I enjoyed the aspect of the story and the storyline itself, but it was rushed quite a bit, which was a little upsetting. I wanted to know more but the author held back. Maybe that will be in other books in the series?

I liked the characters though they went from 0 - 60 with each almost instantaneously. I was a little disappointed but I did enjoy it and was pretty hooked; read this in one sitting.

I see awesome things coming from this author but a little revision of timelines and maybe some of the plots will help make this series great.

I have to say I did like the ending and the twist was incredible. I certainly didn't see that coming at all!!

After reading tons of PNR, I was pleasantly surprised to find something different. This first book in The Irises series is a totally different take on the paranormal. A group of people known as The Irises with eyes that change color according to emotion, a bit of mental telepathy, a girl who doesn't realize she even is an Iris, much less how much power she has, and a group of creepy bad guys - add in a bit of romance and some steamy fun, a few twists in the story, including betrayal where you least expect it, and a mind-blowing ending, and you have a fast-paced, quick read that kept me turning pages. The only drawback for me is that I wish there were more of it!

Wonderfully creative story about Irises, a race of people that have changing iris color depending on mood. They also have a variety of mental gifts which I believe this first installment just scratches the surface. Natacha meets Alec who tries to prepare her for the powers she will soon wield. The two are immediately attracted to one another which adds a little steamy romance into the mix.
Irises have been disappearing though and Alec and his team have been trying to learn why and where they are taken. The team realizes that they need to protect Natacha at all costs because she may be the strongest Iris among them. This was a great start to what I believe will be an amazing series.

Wow! Must Read!

This is the first book that I've read by this author, Veronique Poirier, and I can't wait for the next book! Yes, this book ends on a cliffhanger that I'm dying to read more about! This is a paranormal genre series. It's about, The Irises, a group of Supernatural, but mortal, people whose eyes or iris' change colors based on emotions and can do other things. This book was fast paced and I can't say anything more or I will spoil it. I will say that the characters chemistry is.... again I can't wait to see what happens!

I'm currently bouncing between 3.5 and 4 on the rating for this. 3.5 because the beginning felt kind of choppy. However, by the end of the book, it was much smoother and it was very intriguing. I love reading novellas but they are like a double-edged sword in the fact that it may have a great story line, but you always end up wanting more. It's no different with this story. Natacha and Alec's story is a very interesting one, but the one I found most mysterious and wanting to know more background on is Nathalie's. She seems to be some kind of key to unlock information to this series and I hope to see more in the next book.

3.5 -4 stars

Like many, I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book. I don't normally read paranormal, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the story and the powers that the characters have in this book are very cool. I'm very excited to see what happens next and to see just how strong Natacha really is as the story continues.

The romance/love story in this book between Alec and Natacha definitely added something to the story for me. I liked the connection and draw that they felt to each other from the very beginning. Even before Natacha knew what was going on she knew that meeting Alec was going to be different from anything she'd experienced before and I loved getting to see their interaction with one another grow. As much as I liked their initial reaction to each other I did struggle a little with how quickly things progressed between them. It was extremely quick and at times felt a bit rushed. Like the author wanted the characters to be to a certain point with each other by the end of the book, but didn't leave enough room for the build up. Sometimes that back and forth and suspense between two love interests is my favorite part of romance books and it felt a little lacking in that department.

I also hope that as the story continues that things are explained a little more in depth. Paranormal is hard to read sometimes when things are mentioned briefly and then brought up again. I'm hopeful that the author will address these things in future books.

All in all, I think it's a good start to the story and for this author.

I really enjoy the paranormal genre, I think it adds an element of intrigue to books. This book was a bit of a rollercoaster for me, lots of ups and downs.
The idea of this story is fun and exciting, I was looking forward to learning about the Iris' and their powers. I enjoyed learning about what they could do at the same time as Natacha. I wish we had gotten more of a history of the Iris people. I was hoping to learn where their powers came from and who they are as a community. I look forward to, hopefully, learning more about these things in future volumes.
I loved the instant chemistry between the main characters, Alec and Natacha. The depth of Alec's feelings made me swoon a little bit, and I loved that his feelings made sense. He had been watching over Natacha for a long time and had been able to hear her thoughts, which gave him a deep understanding of her. It was great when they used their powers to communicate, I thought it was an excellent way to boost the intimacy between the couple. And when you add in the eye color changing according to their emotions, the powers the Iris' have helped to deepen the relationship between the couple.
At times things felt rushed, Natacha's reaction to her powers for example, went from one extreme to the other. Overall I wish the book had been longer and that there was more time to explore these things. I look forward to future volumes that explore more of the story.

Eyes Volume 1 (Short Story)

Written by Veronique Poirier
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Wow, I can honestly say that I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed this book. This is just the first volume (And I really hope there are more as I intend to read them)

The story is about Alec and Natacha, They are “Irises” a type of supernatural being. This was a great twist on paranormal and I really enjoyed reading it. It was fast paced, and left me wanting more. It was a little choppy on the way the chapters were written when they change point of view between the characters, but nothing that would keep me from reading more books by Ms. Poirier.

It was hot, had some great action, and it left me wanting more! I can’t really ask for more in a book. This is a GREAT debut book for Veronique Poirier and I look forward to many more books from her.

***I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher***

Whoa! Absolutely loved this book! Such an awesome twist on paranormal romance! Natacha has no idea what's in store for her. But Alec has watched her for a very long time and is waiting to make his move. When the opportunity presents itself he's right there to help her out. Natacha feels an instant connection to Alec . But without warning her world is spun into an intense emotional and scary place. Alec and his friends are right by her side to help. But there is one person out for revenge that is taking out their pain and sorrow on the wrong people. I loved their story from beginning to end and can't for more of The Irises series! A new author for me but definitely one that has me so intrigued that I will one click everytime! <3

Wow! Awesome quick read! If you are in the market for a nice quick paranormal romance, then this is the book for you!!!
Full of suspense & mystery! Who is chasing her? Why are they chasing her?
I loved the whole aspect of the eyes changing color, depending on the mood, but the adding pink and purple and what they stand for, Brilliant!!!
My only complain would be, the book is too short!! I wanted to hear more about Natasha and Alec!

I voluntarily read this book for an honest review. I have to honestly say, Veronique did a great job on her first book!!! Looking forward to seeing more from her!

I had no idea what this book would be about, this author is completely brand new, but I can tell you now that she surprised me. Her writing is incredible and if you haven’t had the privilege of reading her work, then you really should start considering it. Veronique’s work is pretty mysterious, but it draws you in, I will warn you now that it ends in a way that you wouldn’t expect. I know for a fact that I will be reading more of this authors work as it has captured my attention. This is a short book, but it works so well that you’ll just want to find out how things progress. I hope that you decide to give this book a try as honestly it’s well worth it.

I couldn't wait to flip to the next page and find out what was going on. Veronique writes a unique paranormal novella. She jumps right to the heart of the story and grabs your attention. Written from two points of view you get each story from Natacha & Alec. Natacha and Alec are enhanced humans on the run with others of their kind fighting to stay alive. Attraction between the two is instant and spicy. Veronique leaves me wanting a conclusion to the cliff hanger ending and a more in depth story. Hoping the next installment is longer.

This was an awesome parnormal/fantasy romance, but it had some thriller and mystery elements to it also. I loved it as it was fast paced and a beautiful read. Natasha and Alec make an awesome couple and their love blossoms quickly with everything that is going on. As danger arises they face it together without letting it tear them apart.

This is a five star read.
