Omega Moon Universe: Phase One

Rate this book
These stories all take place in the same world, under the same sky...

Seeing Red: Scorched is the first in a vampire series, focusing on nineteen-year-old Isaac and his struggles of first time love, losing a loved one and becoming something out of this world. Follow him from human, to ghoul, to vampire in his nine month transition that takes place in central London and the surrounding areas in England.

Omega Moon follows Alec and his struggles at dealing with his new-found werewolf status. After a murder on campus leaves Alec questioning his own whereabouts that night, he then discovers that he isn't the only shifter on his college grounds and that the professor he's been pining for happens to be an Alpha - the leader of a pack that live just outside the college. Alec must come to terms with his position as an Omega - a rare species of wolf that can get pregnant despite being male - whilst also trying to unravel the mystery behind the deaths on campus.

Warlock Academy is the first in the series, focusing on William Dicer and Jake Minkovski as they navigate the start of the academic year. William is eighteen and a first year at the magical institute, whilst Jake is nineteen and is in his second year. Both of these young males happen to be porters, the rarest species of warlock that are capable of teleporting not only objects, but people too, across vast spaces. Whilst William's shy personality has him struggling to make friends, Jake's bad attitude and tendency to cause mayhem puts his position at the academy in jeopardy. Unfortunately for them both, something is pulling the young men towards one another, putting William in harm's way and Jake in a bad frame of mind.

Also in this collection is the first chapter of an upcoming story set in the same universe - Venatores Noctis: The Half Breed.

'VN' focuses on Jacob who has moved away from his homophobic father to the city of Manchester in England. He's working at a gay bar, he's not fitting in and he spends most of his time on the phone to his best-friend Cassie who resides back in Essex.

After a forced bonding session with his coworkers, Jacob finds himself navigating the maze of backstreets as he heads home, only to be stopped by something he can't quite explain... Whatever it is, it definitely isn't human and the young man's life is put in great peril.

This was a bit of an experience in frustration and anger with just enough to keep me wanting to read.

Seeing Red started off great, but then started to drag a bit. I was sitting there wanting them to just figure their crap out and the love triangle.....ugh. I could see it when they couldn't and it drove me up a wall. Also they just started feeling wrong for each other which increased the drag so I was glad when it finished.

Omega Moon really made me doubt this book. The whole Alpha thing was everything I don't like in this genre. It was expected that Alec do everything for his Alpha ad in the way that he wanted. Plus they whole society of werewolves really glazed over everything going on in the human world and didn’t care about Alec’s college life or concerns. Then the whole thing with the scent, it was like Alec was willfully ignoring when he would encounter it. I saw his partner long before he did. At least it turned around in the end to show what it could be, what a relationship of power can be when both are in it together. I actually loved those last two pages, the trust, the decisions, the care. It almost made up for the struggle of the preceding pages.

Warlock Academy is what I got this book for and after the other stories I was pleasantly surprised. This story had characters I loved and a progression that intrigued me. William and Logan kept me interested and I found their attraction genuine and a joy to read. Jake was this counterpoint that was creepy and his thoughts and actions were disturbing but in tempered the story in just the right way and puts in a fair amount of risk. I will not be interested in pursuing any of the other stories but I would love to know what continues on with this one!

Good premise for all the stories but not impressed with the execution at all.
