I've had this from long before I discovered Good Eats. It's like having Alton Brown at your fingertips (but perhaps not with all the fun puppets and bad jokes!). Indispensable resource when trying new recipes, learning how to use a new kitchen tool, perfecting a technique, and it also has some pretty good recipes included.

This is quite possibly the best book ever when it comes to the use of ingredients. It has a description of every known ingredient and what you can do with it. Awesome.

This book is a great resource for cooks. I also recommend it for those just beginning to build their kitchen
