Life After Heaven: How My Time in Heaven Can Transform Your Life on Earth

Rate this book
After a deadly medical mistake sent a navy sailor to the presence of Jesus, he returned from his near-death experience with new eyes to see the kingdom of heaven in this life. Now he wants to help you experience heaven on earth today.

For years Steve Musick kept his amazing story to himself, afraid no one would believe or understand it. A major allergic reaction had stopped his heart, hurling him into a five-week coma and a powerful experience of heaven. After returning to life, he couldn’t forget the memory of that vibrant place—and, most of all, the loving words and touch of Jesus.

But that was only the beginning. An amazing series of miracles, dreams, and other supernatural events had been set in motion, showing Steve that heaven was close, even in this life. God was calling him to discover echoes of heaven in the here and now—echoes that can happen at any moment, to anyone—that bring overwhelming joy.

At last Steve is ready to tell the story of his journey of a lifetime— two lifetimes. In it you’ll learn the secret of bringing heaven to earth in your everyday world, and how to nurture a relationship with God so real and intimate that you’ll feel his nearness as strongly as Steven did.

Experience one man’s incredible vision of heaven—and learn how you can live in God’s presence and power today.

A New View of Life on Earth

I had expected another book about someone who was “officially declared dead” and experienced heaven only to come back to earth. And while I am usually fascinated by these stories, this book was a bit different for the things it revealed about heaven….and what to do with the knowledge that is obtained.

One of the sweetest parts in the book is when the author, Steve, meets Jesus in heaven and they spend time reviewing all the different events that have happened in his life and the purpose behind them. Although Steve experienced violence in his home and poverty, Jesus is able to explain why certain things happened and how he was there every step of the way using it for His purpose. Steve is able to see God's presence and His hand "guiding, providing, redeeming, protecting. Everything that happened to me is, in the end, a benefit." Jesus continues to explain Steve’s family to him and he comes to understand his mother from a completely different perspective. Things are revealed to Steve about his father and why he handled certain things in a certain way. Jesus makes it all OK when he tells Steve about the work he is doing in each of their lives. It all makes sense. It is a comforting thought to know that someday there will be an explanation to provide a thread that weaves through the events of our lives that will allow it all to make sense.

It all comes down to this. "God knows. He has a purpose. He loves each of us intimately. Nothing is in our lives is wasted. Our experiences, even the pain, matter. He sees them. He will use them for good. He isn't missing a thing. It is OK."

After another miraculous event where Steve encounters God in a powerful way, Steve’s life is transformed and he realizes that God is looking for opportunities to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth.

The third section of the book is dedicated to encouraging the readers how to experience the presence of a loving God and how to see heaven here on earth….and participate in it. Steve calls these “bubbles of heaven”. God includes us in the process of His work but the first step is to make ourselves aware of what God is doing and being available to join him.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.

Steven R. Music kept a secret for decades. His secret was that he had died (due to a severe medication allergy) and seen Heaven. Everyone around him knew that he had spent weeks in a coma and that he came out of that coma a profoundly disabled person. Before he died, he was a SEAL candidate, bound for Annapolis. Afterwards, he was honorably discharged from the Navy on medical grounds. He spent a decade with severe respiratory disease before he was miraculously healed. Even then, he only told a few people about his spiritual journey to the other side of the veil.

I've read several books on NDE's (near death experiences) and they all have many things in common. Musick's account of going to Heaven is similar to the others in several ways. What's different about this book, however, is that the last third of the book focuses on how Musick's NDE changed him, and how we all can be more sensitive to the "Heaven bubbles" (Musick's term) that happen in our lives. Heaven bubbles happen when the veil that obscures our earthly lives from the spiritual realities around us becomes thin.

I've come to believe that Heaven is closer than we think, and this book is a testimony to that assertion. I particularly love the stories that Musick shares about his Heaven bubbles...times when his spiritual eyes were opened and he was able to see a dimension beyond what we can see with our physical eyes.

I really liked this book and recommend it to anyone who wants to feel encouraged about the fact that there are angels in our midst, and that there is more to this life than what we can detect with our physical senses.

* I was given an unpublished proof copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for my honest review. The book will be released on March 7,2017. It is available for preorder on Amazon.com.

I really liked the book. I was disappointed, however, that Steven doesn't share what Jesus specifically told him. But, overall, it was well written and interesting.

I was drawn to this title when my dear Dad passed away earlier this year, and I couldn't help pondering a lot about what awaits our departed souls directly on the other side. I know there have been many books with theories written already, but some of them are just surmises like ours would be. That's most likely why books by people who claim to have had NDE's (near death experiences) intrigue us. I've seen them jokingly referred to as 'heavenly tourism' but for readers with open minds who are seeking the common threads, these books can offer a lot of hope and comfort.

Stephen Musick describes the sort of experience we all long to be true, in which he has a long, loving conversation with Jesus in an environment which would be enough to blow our physical senses, were we still in them. But this only takes up one chapter of the book. For the rest of it, he talks about the ripple effect this experience had on the rest of his life, and his day to day attitude.

He focuses on a simple, fragile phenomenon he calls 'bubbles of heaven.' It's when other-worldly or supernatural moments break briefly in to ours. For Musick, they're fleeting reminders of what his moment in heaven had been like, and his stated goal is to instruct readers so we can learn to recognise them in our lives too.

I really appreciate his emphasis on the simple nature of these, making them easy to dismiss as coincidence, good fortune, or whatever else our reason brushes them off with. We've been conditioned by our culture to believe that things worth our attention will probably be loud, obvious and hard to miss. To the contrary, they are often gentle enough to slip past us if we aren't aware. So the bulk of this book is probably about training our hearts to be aware.

All in all, it's a spirit lifting and encouraging read which came along at a time I appreciated it.

Thanks to Water Brook Press and Blogging for Books for giving me a copy through Net Galley.

At first thought, I was going to give this 4 stars, but after remembering how many "bubbles of heaven" I felt while reading this book, I decided it needed 5 stars.

I lost my (at the time) 5 year old son 17 months ago. This book brought me some peace as it confirmed what I have felt since his passing. That he is happy and everything he suffered here on earth is somehow "ok" now that he is back home.

Wonderful, inspirational reading. Confirming God's word and that there is so much more waiting for us in Heaven!

I have been through and am going through trials with health issues. Through it all Ive trusted God to see me through. And he does daily. I give Him my praises constantly.

Really enjoyed reading Life After Heaven. Highly fascinating! God brought the book to my attention a couple of hours after having my own experience. I've had a few, actually, and haven't had a story of someone to relate to.

I enjoyed the first half of this book but the second half was much too preachy and felt like he was just trying to fill up enough pages to make a real book. The story of his near death experiences was very interesting.

I really enjoyed reading this book. There are so many great points and learning that can be done.
I even want to start looking for "bubbles of heaven" in my everyday life.

Heaven.

It's something all of us want to believe exists and even hope that we will enter into if we die after this life on earth. There have been numerous books written from those who have died and come back, all conveying similar experiences. So what would make any other book different? I would challenge you to read, Life After Heaven by Steven R. Musick and see how you feel after you read it.

Like all the other books, Steven R. Musick did die and went to heaven. First entering through the tunnel of light and entering into what he believes is heaven. He walked with a man who he believes was Jesus and discussed all the things that had happened in his life up to the point of his death and how God worked in situations he may not have recognized. He conveyed to Steven that it's not really about what good we do for others but how God can use any and all circumstances in our life to further His plan in our lives and those whom our lives come into contact with, like ripples in the pond. Sadly Jesus told him that he wasn't there to stay and within minutes was back in his old body away from heaven and Jesus. He explains it simply as "the experience to taking a kid to Disneyland, letting him ride just one ride, and then tossing him back in the car without explanation, a profound sense of loss." In fact Steven would go on to keep his life after death experience a secret for almost a decade, but during those years, he attempted to discover why Jesus told him he wouldn't stay.

When he returned to his body, he discovered that the years in front of him would be the ultimate test f his faith as he suffered from a decrease in lung capacity by 60% and every breath of air would be a truly gift from God. All his future plans were simply re-written and now he would have to find a new beginning with his wife and soon to be family of sons, ones he simply couldn't play with due to his own physical limitations. He wondered why his prayers would go unheeded by God for healing. "Many people - and I was one of them - equate God's work of healing us or giving to us with the prosperity gospel. That's a false notion that God exists to benefit us and give us what we want. That couldn't be further from the truth. But an opposite mistake of equal danger is to think that God is dome kind of sour pragmatist who only gives something to you with divine strings attached. God does not exist for our appeasement. Nor does he find some excuse outside of pure love to give something good to us. He is a father. He loves to give things to his kids. Things we need. Things that make us joyful. Things that are good."(pg 113).

I received Life After Heaven by Steven R. Musick compliments of WaterBrook Multnomah Publishers. This goes beyond all the other books I have read on life after death on those believers and even non-believers that have seen what they believe is Heaven. This takes things a bit further. What does someone who has seen Heaven do when they come back? Are they changed for the better by having seen eternity? I believe that Steven has taken on God's challenge as he explains, "The economics of the kingdom of heaven are upside down: giving is better than getting, death can be life, life as the world sees it can be death, loss can be gain, gain can be loss. God's kingdom often flips the way we do little things upside down. In our culture we insulate ourselves in all kinds of ways. We cocoon. When the situation calls for it, God's volunteers needs to be able to strip away the cultural things to keep people apart." (pg 135).

I found myself challenged to really take my own personal relationship with God to a much deeper level than simply going through the bland Christian lifestyle, going to church, reading the Bible and praying when I remembered. This made me want to really understand what it means to connect with God more intimately and understand why I am here at all. "In terms of life on earth, I still have a retirement account," as Steve would say. "My purpose is to make my death worth living for. I mourn for what we're missing here on earth. I mourn for the things God offers here that we somehow choose not to appropriate. I mourn for the fullness we ignore, the love we don't recognize, the power and joy just waiting to be picked up by us. I would like to help everyone I can to receive a full measure of what's offered."( pg 141). I encourage you to pick this book up today and see for yourself what God's calling you to do with your life. You just might be surprised at what you find tucked inside and the reason I give this a 5 out of 5 stars.

There's been a number of books published about Heaven, going there and coming back, and this one does just that, but the earthly return is delved into in an even deeper depth. The description given of That Place makes you sigh with longing, relief, excitement, and anticipation; knowing you'll be greeted by Jesus in a beautiful place intensified by being Heaven. So what does the earth-bound being find when he has to come back, well, it isn't pretty. Now, his out-of-Heaven existence is a trial to him even to his every breath. He faces physical shortcomings, questioning as to what God wanted him to do now with his limitations, and a chronic yearning to go back to Jesus. Steven Musick explains his tour of being on the ground and what he came to believe was his mission and what we should be doing also. This book might just change your life; don't miss it.

I have read several “life after death” books, and was a bit skeptical when I first started reading this one. Other books describe the event in great detail and length, and left with the thought “that’s nice!” But what is different about this book, is the author tells about his experience but only as it relates to his return to earth and how it impacted his life. He didn’t tell his wife for 10 years, and others for nearly 20! But most importantly, he explains how the kingdom of God is closer to earth than we realize, and that we can have what he calls “bubble experiences” where we act in connection with God to bring a little bit of heaven to those who God puts in our path. He encourages the reader to use what he has experienced and learned for God’s glory.

This was not just another “life after death” tale. Mr. Musick’s story is an encouraging reminder that we can experience glimpses of heaven on earth when we walk closely with Jesus and are open to following his promptings. I’m inspired to take more time to grow my faith so I too can be a part of bringing moments, or “bubbles” as he calls them, to those around me. This won’t be a new experience for me, but I’m excited and motivated to being open and ready for it to happen with greater frequency in my life. Can’t imagine a better way of living than to experience clarity, purpose, and the joy and love of His presence. I’m in!

I enjoyed the book Life After Heaven. It is a testimony that miracles happen, both big and small. We are God's helping hands in helping others. Asking for God's help is essential in all we do and helps to make peace and harmony here on earth, which is just a glimpse of the embodiment of what heaven is like. God gives us power over evil to create many mini miracles in His name. All of this adds up if everyone pitches in to love and care, as God loves and cares for us. Steven Musick's journey is the eye-opener we all need to read about, to focus less on self and more on God and others!

This one came to my attention at the perfect time in my life. A key player in my first 45 years departed for Heaven 8 months ago. She had looked forward to it for a long time, although she still took so much joy in her earthly stay. My only sadness comes from a lack of access to her, but it can still overwhelm me at times. Steven's story blessed me more than I can say, renewed my faith in the miraculous, and perhaps most of all, reminded me that Jesus really does redeem EVERYthing.

Engaging, heartfelt testimony.

This book grabbed my attention right from the start and didn't let go until the final few chapters that felt like add-ons instead of integral parts of the story. The author's voice is earnest and approachable, the story riveting. I would give it 5 stars if there wasn't so much repetition throughout that made reading it feel a bit tedious.

A dear friend loaned me this book, it spoke to her and she knows the author personally and feels he is authentic and sincere. I found it interesting and much of his message rings true. He believes he has visited heaven and returned. His message of kindness and living in a manner close to Jesus is a loving image of how we should live.

Inspiring

It was wonderful to read about Steve’s experiences in heaven. Also the spiritual bubbles he was able to experience here on earth. It increased my faith to read about his faith and I hope to experience spiritual bubbles of my own
from God as well.

Good opportunity to learn

I really got a lot out of this book. I do wish he had talked more about being with Jesus. The author wrote more about himself than about his encounter with Jesus. Very Sad.

This book is more than just a memoir of an near death experience. It is a manual for experiencing God in our daily life. Musick teaches how we should live on this earth, a lesson he learned by dying. You will live to be a better citizen of heaven by following Steve on his journey.

This is a good book, but its not actually about an NDE at all. In fact you pretty much hear no details about the nde itself. Its about his journey afterwards and his experience bringing heaven to Earth in small events. An encouraging read.
