Rate this book
The hallucinations won’t stop. They come without warning and with enough punch to bring a grown man to his knees… Scott Moore has experienced these so-called hallucinations since he was a teenager—blurry visions of others in exciting and frightening situations. Except, they aren’t hallucinations at all. What he sees are actual events those around him have or will experience. Dr. Paul Blackwell claims he can help Scott control them with medicine and teach him how to influence the outcomes to help others. But something doesn’t feel right about the good doctor’s motives… Gifts can bring amazing challenges, and Scott discovers thrilling opportunities to find lost people, protect immigrants, and even prevent death. But when he “reads” Dr. Blackwell, Scott learns the doctor has ulterior motives. He’s willing to use Scott’s gift for blackmail and insider stock trading information, and he will stop at nothing—even murder—to harness Scott’s gift of 2nd Sight. The future isn’t as certain as Scott thinks, and Dr. Blackwell has his own plans for his gifted patient… Can Scott manage to use his gift to influence his own future, or will Dr. Blackwell finally succeed in capturing his insight for himself?

“Tell stories.” It's one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received. Stories inspire people to grow and expand their horizons. They entertain. They challenge. They comfort. Simply put, they make life much better.
I’ve been telling stories all my life. When I worked with youth years ago, I told stories that helped them understand, learn and develop. Later, as a corporate training manager I used stories to demonstrate examples, to encourage better business practices and to stimulate learning. As an online college professor I found stories to be instrumental in challenging people to think and comprehend.
Today I continue to tell stories. You’ll find them in my nonfiction curriculum books and all of my award-winning novels. My hope is you’ll enjoy my stories and share them with your friends.
Then, tell your own stories. It’s a great piece of advice.

Scott Moore is blessed … or cursed … with visions of things that have happened or that will happen in the future. All it takes is a touch to see in his mind’s eye. They occur without warning, often leaving him sick and laying on the floor.

Along comes Dr. Paul Blackwell, who claims that he can help. He wants Scott to be his guinea pig in taking certain medications that will help control these visions.

Sound too good to be true? Scott and his wife think so, but Scott wants to give it a try at any cost. When he learns just how much power he has over life and death, he becomes a willing pawn in the Doctor’s plans that include blackmail, insider trading.

But the Doctor isn’t content to leave it as is .. he wants more. And he’s willing to kill to get it.

This was a flight of fancy for me. Haven’t we all wished we could see in the future, change what we see? I always wanted to be a mind reader … would have helped with those employers who smiled with everything except their eyes.

The story itself is satisfactory, even though it really suspends belief. I had to keep reminding myself that was a fictional book. I honestly could not connect with any of the characters. Scott seems to be easily manipulated. His wife, although very supportive of her husband, doesn’t turn an eyebrow when her husband sees the death of someone close to them. Her attitude was more like ….. well, leave it alone, you aren’t responsible. The Doctor is evil incarnate.

I can’t say that it was truly suspenseful. There are a few moments that are quite surprising, though. Even the ending was a bit mediocre.

Many thanks to the author / Limitless Publishing, LLC / NetGalley who provided a digital copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Article first published as Book Review: ‘2nd Sight: Capturing Insight’ by Ben A. Sharpton on Blogcritics.

“2nd Sight: Capturing Insight” by Ben A. Sharpton is a chilling paranormal mystery/thriller that will grab readers with the first sentence, and hold on to them for dear life until the very last word of the book is read.

Scott Moore has experienced hallucinations since he was a teenager, but lately they are stronger and occur at more frequent intervals. Scott senses these visions are not hallucinations at all, but a glimpse into actual events. At first, it seems to Scott that the events he witnesses have already occurred, but he soon realizes that some of these visions are of things yet to come, and some may not ever happen at all. After experiencing several visions involving fatal instances, Scott is approached by Dr. Paul Blackwell, a paranormal psychologist, who claims he can help Scott control these visions and use them to help others.

Scott’s wife, Grace, is skeptical of the good doctor, but reluctantly relents upon hearing affirmations of Blackwell’s good intentions, paired with Scott’s ability to discontinue the studies if he ever starts to feel uncomfortable with any part of the process. The tests start out relatively short and simple, but escalate quickly beyond Scott’s expectations as Dr. Blackwell uses some of the information discovered for his own personal gain. Too late, Scott realizes the lengths Blackwell will go in hopes of harnessing this unusual gift.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and breezed through the reading. The writing is clear and concise, and the level of detail is just enough to keep the story flowing smoothly. I greatly appreciate that the narrative unfolds in layman’s terms, as opposed to being bogged down with a lot of technical and medical jargon. The characters are easily relatable, the good guys possessing all the traits worthy of great protagonists, and the bad guys are utterly evil. Interactions between the characters are intense and suspenseful and will keep readers plowing through the text. Plenty of twists and turns in the plot keep the reader guessing and wanting more - you might think you’ve figured out how the story ends, but trust me, you will be wrong!

“2nd Sight: Capturing Insight” by Ben A. Sharpton is a well-written, phenomenal read I could not put down, and I highly recommend it to a wide audience of mystery/thriller, paranormal, and action/adventure buffs. For readers wanting more, the author has a short story available called “2nd Sight: Just a Feeling” that is the prequel to this novel.

Your past is no secret. And your future is no longer unseen.

The touch of a hand, a pat on the back, a subtle brush of elbows. That's all it takes for Scott to 'read' you.

They come like a bolt of lightning, these glimpses into the minds of strangers. Some are bittersweet like lost loves, and stolen kisses, others reveal shameful moments buried deeply in the past. And when he sees a suicide before it happens, Scott wonders if he is losing his mind.

Dr. Paul Blackwell, the latest in a long line of medical specialists, offers insight into this phenomenon, through his research into the work of a Russian doctor known for his work on remote viewing during the Cold War. Are Scott's abilities somehow related to the covert program?

Readers will hang on every word, as Scott's sessions with a paranormal psychologist delve deeper into his bewildering visions. Will one man do the right thing with the gift of foresight or be seduced by the power he holds?

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

2nd sight by Ben A Sharpton is a mystery thriller. The hallucinations won't stop. They come without warning and with enough pinch to bring a grown man to his knees. Absolutely fantastic read. Devoured in less than 24 hours. Had me gripped from start to finish. Simply unputdownable. I loved how right Scott was with his predictions. I did not like Dr Blackwell. He was pure evil. Thouroughly enjoyable read. There was nothing I disliked about this book. This is a must read and I would highly recommend it. Definitely worth more than 5*. Thanks to netgalley for the arc.

Sharpton has penned another compelling read. Grabbed at page 1, I was intrigued to understand the condition of the main character and what would happen to him. The characters are plausible, the images vivid and real. The plot is not predictable, and the twists and turns of the story are often surprising. The pacing increases with the build in suspense. The suspense builds to a very high level; closing the book for a few minutes helps suspend that overwhelming emotion, and then continue the read!

Wondering when the movie will be released?!

2nd Sight weaves together a premise based on a scientific phenomenon that is believably crafted as it tells the story of Scott, a man with an unusual ability. As Scott grapples with his unique gift of being able to see other peoples' life experiences--and even their futures--he is left wondering if it's a blessing or a curse. Death surrounds him, but he's unable to prevent it. Lives are in danger, and yet even with his foresight he is helpless.

When a brilliant doctor shows up asking to study Scott's capabilities, Scott senses a darker intent behind the research. But for the sake of understanding who he is and how he fits into the world now as a jobless husband, he accepts. Yet his suspicions prove right when he begins to see a dismal future--for himself.

Throughout the story Scott unburies the secrets of those around him, and uncovers hidden details about his childhood--with an unexpected twist thrown in--as the mystery that is his life unravels. Will his premonitions about being killed at the doctor's hands prove true? Will his gift be able to be put to use when a young cancer victim needs it, or when a man with Alzheimer's goes missing? Or will everything come crashing down around Scott, costing him the only thing he holds dear--his wife Grace?

It's a refreshing concept that is masterfully executed. It's a marriage of drama and mystery that will entertain and delight readers. If you're looking for something well written and compelling, add it to your to-read list.

Scott Moore has had hallucinations all his life where he can see people's future. He doesn’t know if it is a gift or curse. Scott requests the help of Dr. Paul Blackwell to help him control his visions with medications. Scott has a premonition that Dr. Blackwell is only helping Scott to his own advantage and is losing trust with Dr. Blackwell. I really enjoyed this interesting paranormal urban fantasy novel.

The premise of this book was much better than the actual execution. For me, the writing style was very dry and made it difficult to really get into the story. There were also parts were we jump in time that made it harder to follow.

Odd

Can't decide if I like this book or not. It has too many loose ends & odd random tangents in the story but all the parts are there for a good book

2nd Sight!
Another great read from Ben Sharpton!
Ben has the ability to "hook, line, and sink" a reader from the get go!
All it takes is his first sentence and you know you are in for a great read! His incredibly descriptive visuals, plot twists and turns, and character development are like no other!! As well as his ability to provoke thought per his content, subject(s) and his characters.
I have immensely enjoyed all of Ben's books thus far and the only concern I have is each of his "stories" comes to an end! :(
I look forward to and can not wait for his next great book!!
I would strongly suggest this book for everyone that loves a really well written read that takes you for a great ride!!
Ben continues to hit grand slams and you will love being along for the ride!!

2nd Sight: Capturing Insight by Ben A. Sharpton was a different kind of genre for me. It was captivating especially from the second chapter and I was able to read it in just one afternoon. The pacing alternates between fast slow. There are chapters that are pretty intense and had me at the edge of my seat while others took sometime to get into. This was a good read. I liked the writing style, uniqueness of the paranormal aspect and the fact that this is book is quite thought provoking despite being a work of fiction.

If you enjoy thrillers, paranormal novels then you may like this one.

I had the pleasure of meeting the charming author at a signing and hearing him read the beginning out loud. That first line really hooks you! I found the premise of the story, that some people have the gift of psychometry, being able to "read" into other people's lives through just a touch, to be irresistible. Even though the action-packed tale is fiction, it makes you wonder about the powers of emotion, the human mind and phenomena some people call paranormal yet others claim to experience firsthand. What would happen if you had visions about someone's fate? What are the ethical implications? If these questions fascinate you, pick up Sharpton's 2nd Sight. He weaves a complex story and sprinkles bits of humor throughout.
