Maggie K. Black is an award-winning journalist with a thirst for adventure. She's lived in the American South, Europe and Middle East, and left a piece of her heart in each. She now makes her home in Canada, where she writes stories that make her heart race, chases her dog around the park and shares her adventures with her one true love and and their two daughters.
The action was almost too much in this book. It was so nonstop I'm almost exhausted from reading it. I also didn't care how dismissive Alex was of Theresa for most of the book and how she needed saving all the time. I love books with strong women characters, she wasn't it.
A chilling winter suspense. I read this in the middle of a ferocious blizzard and I kept jumping every time I heard the wind howling around my little house. Perfect ambiance even though it made the read creepier. Theresa and Alex are thrust together in a relentless game of cat and mouse as they battle the elements to stay a step ahead of their pursuers.
Love the solid romance -- both haven't forgotten their love...or the crushing pain of their break up. And both have very different memories of how their perfect world imploded. A realistic second chance love story rises from the ashes. Sweet and tender and full of promise.
Nail-biting suspense, a gripping mystery and the rush of love rediscovered make this the perfect blizzard read.
. I always enjoy reading Maggie's books. She is awesome when it comes to suspense stories. This book is the second book in the True North Bodyguards Series. I know you are going to love it. This book is well written fast paced and full of action. Alex Dean is a bodyguard with Ash Private Security. His sister Zoe, also a bodyguard for Ash is on a case to watch over a young woman out at Cedar Lake. Alex goes out to the lake to assist his sister. He Skype's his sister from his cabin only to get his ex-fiance`on the computer. She is talking to him explaining why she is there when three men break into the cabin. He takes off across the lake to save her. Therapist Theresa Vaughan is a on a case to help Zoe Dean's client. Zoe and her client go into town leaving Theresa alone in the cabin. She is surprised to here from Alex and sure didn't expect to be kidnapped and held at gun point in the deserted cabin. Alex comes to her rescue but they are soon on the run from these killers. They seem to be familiar are they somehow from their past? A fast moving chase from one cabin to another in a full blown winter storm. God has a plan for these two. God has a plan for you too. Just surrender your heart and watch Him move in your life.
Alex is trying to reach his sister via video chat to let her know there is bad snow storm heading her way and he is there to take her and the young lady she is protecting to safety. His ex fiancee face appear on the screen with three large men asking her where is the trunk. This story has bad guys around every corner, you will be totally surprised at who the really bad guys are. Alex and Theresa thought they were ready for marriage when they were in their early twenties but God had other plans for them. Sometimes God want us to wait for his timing. His timing is always the best.
There are different storylines, here, than in Book 1 in this series but the essence of this book strikes me as being just the same as the other. I found Alex to be somewhat of a disappointment as a character in this book after the intriguing profile he seemed to present when he was introduced as a minor player in the first book of the series. He comes across in this book as hardly having matured at all from the time of his shared history with Theresa during their teen years, and I didn't like that at all.
From start to ending it’s nonstop plot twists & suspense. There is also the romance layer to add some sweetness to the action. I read this through Kindle Unlimited & enjoyed it. It was a short read which is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve read several short Love Inspired Suspense by this author & haven’t found a bad one!
Rescue at Cedar Lake is a Love Inspired Suspense by Maggie K. Black. It is full of action and suspense. It keeps your attention throughout the book. It is very difficult to put down. Alex Dean had a difficult time deciding what he wanted to do with his life. Finally, he set up a security business with Daniel Ash. He and his step-sister Zoe worked as bodyguards as needed. Now his step-sister was on a job to bring a university student who had stressed out up to the shores of Cedar Lake, Ontario to spend the weekend studying. Mandy Rhodes was the only daughter of a wealthy, high-powered family who had a house at Cedar Lake. Zoe and Alex had grown up on Cedar Lake along with children of wealthy families. Mandy was also the cousin of Joshua, a close friend of theirs. Mandy had been dating a man her parents did not feel worthy of her and to break them up, they insisted she come to the house to study. They hired Ash Private Security to accompany her. Her older twin brothers were quite powerful and wealthy in their own right. Emmett owned a string of car dealerships and Kyle was a politician. They also felt she needed someone to guard her. This assignment should be an easy one to do and was very important to their business. Now, however, Zoe was not answering his messages and a huge storm was moving in. He had to find the girls. Then he gets a call from Theresa Vaughn. They had been engaged and she broke it off days before their wedding. He had not seen her nor heard from her since then. He did know that as a trauma counselor and psychotherapist, Zoe and Daniel had called Theresa in to work on some assignments. Now after eight and a half years, he was talking to her. It seems she was working on this case and she too was worried about Zoe and Mandy. They had gone on a drive and had not returned even as the weather worsened. As they were talking, a man burst in on Theresa and pointed a gun at her head. The computer she was talking on fell to the ground and Alex heard no more. What was going on? Why would someone break into a house that should have been empty this time of the year? What were they looking for or who? Time is of the essence to reach Theresa before she died. What is he to do?
