Katie Lynch was on her way home one evening when she came upon a car off the side of the road and stopped to try to see if anyone needed help. Coming across Jerome in a bit of a trance only speaking the word "cold" Katie knew she needed to get help in case he'd been injured. When a police officer comes along Katie is relieved and leaves her neighbor to be taken care of by the officer.
The next day Katie calls the local sheriff's office to speak to her friend, Officer Ryan Flynn to check on Jerome's condition. Finding he'd never been admitted to the hospital and there never had been an officer "Brown" in the department leads the pair on a bit of a mystery to find just what Katie had come across that night. Along with multiple reports of strange lights in the sky and the officers of Point Pleasant find mutilated animals this small town is again in the middle of a mystery.
A Cold Tomorrow is the second book in the Point Pleasant series by Mae Clair. The story takes place in again in the small town of Point Pleasant, WV where fifteen years before there had been a major bridge collapse with massive loss of life with rumors of the accident having a supernatural cause. The town is full of different mysteries and sightings such as their famous creature the Mothman along with rumors of UFOs and mysterious men in black.
This second installment picks up shortly after the end of the first but the main characters have changed in this second installment of the series. Those we met in the first book are still involved and you do find out more about what is going on with them but this time the main character is Katie who had found out what had happened to her missing sister in the first book along with Ryan, the brother of the main male character in the first.
This series has a great mix of elements built into it, there's the mystery/thriller aspect but with a mix of supernatural and paranormal thrown into the mix but you also have a bit of a romantic suspense. The book expands the story this time to include UFO sightings and the mysterious men in black that cover up these sightings all the while continuing on the story of the creature known as the Mothman in which we learn more of what exactly this creature is.
Overall, a great series best described as a supernatural thriller with a bit of romance in the mix. Also based a bit on real life events as far as the town's bridge collapse that had happened fifteen years prior.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Enter with caution, Mae Clair is taking us back to Point Pleasant, WV, home of the Mothman legends, strange happenings and aliens who hide in plain sight. Prepare to believe in the unbelievable in Ms. Clair’s latest suspense-filled tale, A COLD TOMORROW where “Cold” is more than a feeling or a word spelled out on a Ouija board, but what it is, is one of the mysteries veiled in the dark shadows of Point Pleasant.
All Katie was trying to do was help a stranded motorist, but somewhere between opening her car door and the arrival of a mysterious law enforcement officer, it is as if she has entered another dimension where danger is real, aliens may or may not have been sighted, AGAIN and an ex-boyfriend is acting like a brainwashed extra in a plot where M stands for murder and Katie’s life is in danger.
Can Officer Ryan Flynn help keep Katie safe? Will he discover that the deadly bridge event from years back plays a huge role in the mysteries of today? His brother Caden may be the key to unearthing what is going on, and the elusive Mothman will play a significant part as his origins are uncovered and he has one last chance to go home to the world he came from. Will he take that chance or does Fate have other plans?
Mae Clair is a master of mystery and suspense with a touch of the unknown as she pulls back the shrouds of intrigue and ares us to go on, not knowing what to expect on the next page. Brilliant plotting, with an eerie atmosphere, characters with guts while being a little foolhardy at times and a shocking reveal you won’t see coming! Turn on all the lights, stay out of the shadows and please, stay inside because you never know what lurks in the darkness or if they mean you harm or worse...

This my 4th time reviewing a novel by author Mae Clair, so it’s a fair assumption that I am a fan. “A Cold Tomorrow” is book 2 in the Point Pleasant Series, following up “A Thousand Yesteryears,” which I loved! This 2nd book in the series was just as fabulous as the 1st, and I am just in love with this series.
Once again we meet up with brothers Ryan and Caden Flynn, local law enforcement in Point Pleasant, WV. Point Pleasant has long been known for mysterious occurrences, including decades worth of sightings of the mysterious Mothman, but as the novel opens, a farmer has a dead cow that cannot be explained. Also, in the beginning, Katie – manager of The Parrish Hotel and sort-of love interest of Ryan Flynn – is driving along the road one night and comes across Jerome Kelly sitting in his car looking quite disturbed and uneasy. These events are just the beginning of a ton of paranormal/supernatural activities preparing to surface in Point Pleasant, coupled with the fact that Katie’s ex (and Sam’s Father) has returned and apparently mentally unwell, as well as, her son seeing a “strange cloud” which kicks off a fit of non-stop drawing. Ryan and Caden are soon swept up in a whirlwind of an investigation involving several members of the town, Men in Black, the Mothman, and more. Oh, and of course, there is romance threaded through the novel too!
I’ve said this before, but I was never really a fan of this genre until I began reading Mae’s novels. However, I am now such a huge paranormal suspense fan it’s crazy! Besides the Mothman, she weaved in several other supernatural elements adding the perfect amount of suspense to this novel. The plot and all of the subplots resulted in a very engaging and addictive novel from page one. I also love the building romance between Caden and Eve and with Ryan and Katie. Clair touches on their romantic sparks enough to spice things up, but it’s all clean and romantic with no need for explicit physical events to demonstrate their feelings for each other.
“A Cold Tomorrow” continues the Mothman’s story, as well as, the strange voice in the igloo at the TNT, but also explains much more about the paranormal activities in Point Pleasant. At one point into the novel, I almost felt overwhelmed but all of the paranormal elements, but everything tied together perfectly as the novel progressed leaving more feelings of resolution rather than questions. Once again, I am completely in awe of Mae Clair’s fabulous storytelling and character development. Just as her characters are learning more how to believe in these paranormal beings and occurrences, as a reader you also start to believe because of her convincing descriptions and dialogue. A huge thing that I also love about Mae is that she has traveled from the UK to Point Pleasant, WV twice researching her novels and getting to know the place! If you have not yet read “A Thousand Yesteryears,” it’s time to start catching up now to be ready for the release of “A Cold Tomorrow” on December 20!
* Thanks to the fabulous author and NetGalley for providing a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I read A Thousand Yesteryears a while back and found it to be an OK book although predictable. So, I was curious to see how the next book in the series would be. Unfortunately, the storyline in this book was not especially memorable. It's for the moment OK kind of book, but it never gets really interesting to read. For me, the best part was the explanation to the Mothman. Unfortunately, this series feels like romance books masquerading as paranormal. Every book is about a couple, and I bet I know what the next book will be about.
If this book had been more about the Mothman legend and less about Ryan Flynn and Katie Lynch getting together would I have found the book more interesting to read. Probably. I don't mind the romance per se, but it's a pattern in every book. And lo and behold it ended with a cliffhanger, or rather I know what "couple" the story will be about in the next book. As for the whole ex-boyfriend back with murder on his mind never really got interesting to read about. And, to be honest the characters are a bit flat in the book.
I'm sorry to be such a downer. It's just that the Mothman is such an interesting creature and I prefer to read something that's more like a book version of X-files, not some paranormal romance, with emphasis on romance. But, if that's your thing, then I guess this book will work for you!
I want to thank the publisher for providing me with a free copy through NetGalley for an honest review!
Loved it!!! I read the first book in the series, A THOUSAND YESTERYEARS, and gave it 5 stars. But I have to say, the author really upped her game with A COLD TOMORROW. Filled with suspense, conflict, compelling characters, mystery, and folklore, this book has it all. I fell in love with Mr. Evening (he's so creepy and cool!) and Caden. There were times I even felt bad for the Mothman. That takes great characterization and masterful skill. Beautifully written and well researched. And I think that's what makes this series even more creepier. Some of the events really happened to the residents of Point Pleasant (as it's called in the series). Can't wait for the next one!
If you're searching for your next supernatural mystery, you shouldn't look past this one. Highly recommend.
*I was lucky enough to score an ARC of this novel.
I wish I would have read the first book in this series first.. I will say anyone going into this series might want to do that because I felt like there were things about the characters that were mentioned at the beginning of the book, based on situations that happened in book one.. and weren't answered until the end of this novel. At times I was confused but that's just because it was jumping into book two. Honestly after reading this novel Thursday before bed I had nightmares haha. My mind is definitely over active sometimes.. but honestly this book was interesting. I'd actually give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. I loved the Flynn brothers they were my favourite part. Caden especially because of his connection with the Mothman! And by the end of the novel ... i felt terrible for the Mothman :( !! Definitely an interesting read if you're into other worldly beings with a heavy romance feel throughout the novel check this series out!
Mae Clair has hit another home run with her follow-up to A Thousand Yesteryears. I stayed up far too late several nights reading this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the story which often had the feel of an X-Files episode. The time-period portrayed has been well researched as was the setting of Point Pleasant, WV and the nearby TNT. The author has done a fabulous job with this series so far and I look forward to the next edition.
Author Mae Clair is a master when it comes to blending mystery, myth, and local folklore with the perfect amount of suspense, thrills and chills. Having read A Thousand Yesteryears, and thoroughly enjoyed it, I couldn’t wait for A Cold Tomorrow. I was not disappointed. Indeed, I couldn’t put it down.
A Cold tomorrow focuses on Katie Lynch and the unexplained phenomenon that seems to have followed her from childhood into adulthood. Incidents involving phantom sheriffs, men in black, UFO’s, and an ageless being in the guise of the dashing Mr. Evening. We have a healthy dose of the Mothman too—a creature that won my heart as well as my pity in A Thousand Yesteryears. In A Cold Tomorrow he anchored himself a little deeper as the story revealed even more about this intriguing creature.
The romance between Katie and Sergeant Ryan Flynn is sweet and I found myself rooting for this couple every bit as much as I did Caden and Eve in the first wonderful book of this series. If you enjoy haunting legends, mingled with suspense and mystery, you’ll want to read the Point Pleasant Series! I highly recommend it!
This is the follow up to A Thousand Yesteryears. It's one of the few sequels that really can stand alone. I gave the first book five stars, and I would give this one six if it were possible.
All of the characters you loved from the first book are back, and the tapestry of events is larger and tighter than the first book. Life moved on from the first book, and I like the way the author demonstrates that with relationships among the various characters. That doesn't mean life got more predictable or relaxing, far from it.
I don't believe in revealing plot in reviews, but fans of A Thousand Yesteryears are in for a treat. If you're starting here, you'll be buying Yesteryears very soon. Mae Clair has created a wonderful setting full of intrigue and mystery. I know I'm returning for the finale as soon as she can publish it. Do yourself a favor and read these stories.
Katie returns to Point Pleasant to settle her aunt's estate and sets into motion a series of events that seems to be bringing extraterrestrial visitors into town. The locals seem to expect it but this time there seems to be sinister results. With farm animals and neighbors dying, the local police officer Ryan Flynn thinks Katie my be the next victim. Well written and suspenseful, this book is the second story in the Point Pleasant series. I didn't read book one but I plan to.
Book 2 of the Point Pleasant Series starts off a few months after Book 1 ends but can be read as a stand-alone (not that I recommend skipping the first). Katie Lynch takes over as the lead character and shares the limelight with brothers Ryan and Caden Flynn.
Strange supernatural happenings are taking place in Point Pleasant—dead animals, UFOs, aliens, voices in the TNT bunker, and of course, Mothman sightings. Claire tangles in a secondary plot to mix things up a bit and provide some red-herrings. The plot is complex and the pace has to be quick in order to wrap it all up and still have time for some lovely character development.
The best plot won’t survive thin characters, and Claire doesn’t fall into that trap. Main characters, as well as secondary characters, are all unique and three-dimensional. Claire carves out time to provide an emotional foundation with a bit of backstory and to dive into their relationships with each other. I particularly like books that make me feel connected to the characters and this is one of those.
The Mothman becomes more intriguing as does Caden’s character and his connection to the creature. The emotion and compassion between them is particularly riveting, and I MUST read the next book for that reason. An excellent series with polished writing. I highly recommend A Cold Tomorrow to readers of paranormal thrillers and to those who enjoy urban legends.
I LOVED the first book, A Thousand Yesteryears, so I was very eager to continue my journey down the road in Point Pleasant to see what happens next in this fantastic creature feature.
The cover alone gives me an eerie feeling, sending shivers up and down my spine as I try to guess at what lies ‘between the covers.’
Katie misses her sister, her best friend, Wendy, who disappeared three days ago. No one knows what has become of her.
One of the things that caught me early was Katie’s aversion to smells in the salon. I too have a problem with them. These smells of reality make it easy for me to feel as if I am there with her.
I love how Mae Clair develops the relationship between Katie and Doreen Sue, her mom. Reads like real life as the work through a not so good past.
The town has not been kind to Katie’s family, treating them like white trash. Maybe they want to think twice before they cast the first stone.
Ryan Flynn is called to Chester Wilson’s farm to investigate star snot and outer space grass. The mystery begins. Then, the cow…
“It’s been a weird day.”
“Weird how?”
Uh…let’s see…cow mutilation, phantom deputy, missing resident. Does that fit the bill?”
Point Pleasant is a hotbed for Mothman and UFO sightings, in real life too. Adds another element of reality for me. Could it be true? Is Mothman real? For the moment, Mothman is silent.
As things become stranger, Katie’s past comes to the forefront, her memories causing her to fear for herself and her son, Sam.
All of a sudden, something sets Mothman off and he is terrorizing the people of Point Pleasant. How would you feel if you were the only one of your kind…people so afraid of you, they shoot first and take names later?
The Mothman, aliens, Men In black, lights in the sky, mutilated animals, people feeling the compulsion to draw…There are mysteries galore that kept me on pins and needles, fearing for the characters I have grown to love.
Oh Yeah! I believe we will have a Book III.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of A Cold Tomorrow by Mae Clair.
The second book in the Point Pleasant series, A Cold Tomorrow continues the story about the mysterious Mothman, and adds additional questions about the voice in the igloo in the TNT, the unexpected oracle from the first book. Since the tragedy of the collapse of the Silver Bridge into Point Pleasant and the unexpected tie between the Mothman and Caden Flynn, trouble has surfaced around Caden and his brother. Now the trouble pulls Katie Lynch into the morasse, with the return of her ex and the re-appearance of UFOs that appear to threaten her son. Toss in the arrival of the mysterious Mr. Evening and the disappearance of a young man from Caden's past, and suspense rules the day.
I loved the deepening story behind not only Caden's past and Lach Evening, but the revelation of the Mothman's origins. There are hints about the next book, A Desolate Hour, and foreshadowing about more suspense and danger for Caden and his closest friends, including his brother, Katie, and his wife, Eve. They all know some of the story, but even Caden doesn't know it all.
Another great book by this writer! Mae Clair has created a good plot and has developed her characters far enough to make you care about what happens to them. A Cold Tomorrow is a suspenseful story, filled with interesting if not quirky supporting characters. The small town ambience, Point Pleasant, appeals to me. The story is fast-paced and well thought out, and the author does a good job conveying the conflict in both Kate and Ryan , and bringing them together in a satisfying resolution. Or not? A Cold Tomorrow definitely doesn't let you down when it comes to adventure , legend and unexplained phenomena with a dash of romance. You feel like you just can't get enough of the story and the people in it. The characters are compelling and memorable. The Mothman is one of the characters that moved me and strengthened my opinion that he isn’t what many of the Point Pleasent people think him to be. The title is, in my opinion, symbolic. COLD has hidden meanings that are revealed to readers along the story.
We meet characters from book `1, A Thousand Yesteryears. And it’s logical as the story takes the action from where it ended in book 1. The author does a great job reminding us, here and there, about main events in the previous book, thus making it easy for the reader to reconnect with the characters.
The focus is this time on Katie Lynch. Mother-daughter and mother-son relationships are highlighted with finesse. As well as the brother-brother one, I mean Caden and Ryan.
You can't help but love Katie’s strong but sensitive personality. Caden’s deep, gentle humaneness is inspiring. I enjoyed the closeness of the characters in the story. I wish real life could be as this story portrayed.
I won't bother with a synopsis as I hate spoilers. But I will say I really enjoyed A Cold Tomorrow. It captured my attention from the opening pages and held my interest until the final sentence. The author struck an excellent balance of adrenaline rushed action and adventure with warm, sentimental moments. A very enjoyable read.
Mae Clair’s novels are must reads for me, so I was thrilled when I could read the new book, A Cold Tomorrow. To say more would give too much away. There is romance, but nothing that can remotely be called steamy. The ending was a stunner. Fans of paranormal/supernatural/mystery/ Men in Black and UFOs won't want to miss this exciting story of old lore and modern day mayhem.
I was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania, so whenever I see a book that’s set in or around where I grew up, I check it out. The Point Pleasant series by Mae Clair is set in West Virginia, a mere three-and-a-half hours from where I lived, but I know the area. And Pittsburgh is mentioned a lot in A COLD TOMORROW. (How can I not love a story where Pittsburgh is beating Baltimore in a football game?)
But my love for this story—this series—goes far beyond the locale.
A COLD TOMORROW picks up where A THOUSAND YESTERYEARS left off. The Mothman is still a popular legend—one that actually exists and can communicate with the hero from book one. UFO sightings are ramping up like they did in the 1960s, and with those sightings come animal mutilations, “star $h!t”, and the inevitable Men in Black.
But these things are just the tip of the ice berg. In A COLD TOMORROW, an incident involving heroine Katie Lynch’s son releases in her repressed memories, ones that directly relate to the situation at hand. The hero, Sergeant Ryan Flynn of the Mason County Sheriff’s Department, is skeptical of cryptid lore and UFOs, but he knows something isn’t right—something that puts Katie and his brother in danger. The way the characters and plot developed kept me turning pages into the wee hours of the night.
Mae Clair has written a sequel that, if possible, is even better than the first. Her characters are well developed and feel like hometown neighbors—people you’ve known forever and care for deeply. The complications and plot twists are so engrossing—the details are intricate paranormal and real-life threads woven into a fascinating tapestry of compelling fiction. And the setting and ambiance elevate the whole thing to another level.
This story just reaches out, grabs you, and takes you on a fast and wild ride. I love this series and eagerly await the next installment.
A Cold Tomorrow is another brilliant piece of work by Mae Clair. The author seamlessly weaves paranormal, suspense, thriller, and a little romance in this captivating series. The character development is superb and the pace is fast, steady, and engaging. The author masterfully takes us on an engrossing journey that bridges the supernatural with human disposition. This is a story that engages all our senses. We are transported back in time to the small town of Point Pleasant. We feel and smell the crisp autumn air; we fear yet are completely captivated by the penetrating light of foreign objects, the presence of men in black, and the looming, mysterious existence of the Mothman; the feeling of angst absorbs us from beginning to end. After reading book one of this series I, without pause, pre-ordered book two and anxiously awaited its arrival. Mae Clair has delivered an exceptional sequel, and I highly recommend it! I think A Cold Tomorrow can stand alone, but I also recommend A Thousand Yesteryears, too, or you’ll be missing out on another fantastic read. Now, I’m anxiously waiting for the final installment!
I grew up in a small town in West Virginia, with everyone knowing each other and their business, local eateries, and the occasional urban legend. The town wasn't Point Pleasant, but Mae Clair's portrayal of small town WV is spot on.
I didn't read the first book in this series, and having seen the movie, The Mothman, with Richard Gere and the X-files episode featuring the Mothman many years back, I was interested to see this author's interpretation of the famous urban legend. And I was very satisfied. With an exciting mix of mystery, suspense, and paranormal elements, I barely took my eyes off the book to board a plane. It's a probably a miracle I got on the right one. The characters are well-depicted and seem like friendly next door neighbors.
Although I haven't read the first book in this series, I didn't feel like I'd missed anything and A Cold Tomorrow is easily a standalone. Now I have to hurry and wait for the next one - but at least I have time to read the first book in this series! Highly recommend this supernatural mystery.
A Cold Tomorrow is a return to Point Pleasant and further discovery of the supernatural events that continue to plague the city. Even more so than the first book in the series, A Thousand Yesteryears, this book relied on sci-fi for a majority of the action. I am not a huge fantasy fan but realize what draws me back to this series are the people who make up Point Pleasant. Instead of the creature, Mothman, being my primarily focus, it is just a side story in addition to the struggles Katie is facing as a single parent and the possible return of her ex-boyfriend, the continuing evolution of Eve and Caden's relationship, and even the town's relationship with their mysterious creature. Which is why I will continue to look forward to additional books in this out-of-my-book-bag series.
A preview copy of this book was provided by NetGalley and Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review.
Mae Clair's " A Cold Tomorrow" followers the 1st book in this series "A Thousand Yesteryears". Point Pleasant is a town full of close encounters of the third kind. Police Brothers Ryan and Caden and their female companions Eve and Katie make up a town full of alien happenings. Clair weaves events and scares that totally entertain till the last page. Reading the first book in the series would help with background information that although not necessary feel would help in the flow of this amazing adventure. Not exactly a cliff hanger but some questions are left unanswered to lead to the next installment. Fans of the supernatural will enjoy a treat with this series. Received a free copy from Kensington Books via Netgalley.
A year ago, if anyone had told me I would be reading books that included legendary creatures like the Moth Man, UFOs, and Men in Black, I would have said, “No way!” But that is before I read any of Mae Clair’s books.
A Cold Tomorrow is the second in the Point Pleasant series. It follows the events of A Thousand Yesteryears, and the suspense will keep you turning the page. And there is always a twist where you’ll wonder if certain characters are good or bad.
Mae does a wonderful job of blending true events, myth, and folklore into her novels. I eagerly await book three of this series.
As Katie Lynch makes her way home, she spots a car on the side of the road that seems to be in trouble. As she approaches the car, she soon recognizes the motorist as Jerome. He appears to be in some sort of trance and says the word “Cold”. She loans him her jacket and is deeply concerned about him and decides to go get help. Shortly after her decision to get help, an officer shows up identifying himself as Deputy Brown. In so many words, he tells her that he has it under control, and she can be on her way. After she leaves, she can’t get her mind off what happened. The next day she calls Point Pleasant, West Virginia sheriff’s department to speak to her friend Officer Ryan to find out if Jerome is okay. She quickly discovers that there is no Deputy Brown and Jerome was never admitted to the hospital. Officer Ryan, knowing it isn’t likely for Katie to make things up and considering the town’s strange, odd and disturbing occurrences, begins to investigate the disappearance of Jerome which connects them to the mysteries of the town’s lore of the Mothman, UFO sightings around the town and the TNT and lights appearing in the sky.
As the story unfolds further, Katie’s young son’s father shows up in town out of the blue-which is a threat, and it comes apparent that there is more to the story of why he showed up in the first place. Officer Caden, Officer Ryan’s brother, helps his brother and Katie to solve the mystery of Jerome’s disappearance and the town’s troubles. As they race to solve the mysterious and troubling happenings in their town, while keeping Katie’s son safe, Katie and Ryan form an attachment and become involved.
Another of the many elements of this story is the relationship between Katie and her mother, Doreen. Without giving too much away, their story touches on a troubled past in more ways than one, which leads to a strained relationship and Katie keeping her mom at arm’s length. Is there healing and forgiveness in the mother and daughter relationship? I’m glad the author wrote this in the story and will leave an impression on many readers’ hearts.
This book is the second in a trilogy and I recommend reading the first book in the series before beginning this one. That said, while there are a few details that are unclear to me, it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of reading this story. After I read this book, I was curious if there is such a thing called “The Mothman” lore and what was the TNT. I discovered that such a place and the lore exist! This made, “A Cold Tomorrow” even more intriguing and mysterious.
Readers who enjoy reading about lore, UFOs and small-town events will enjoy this entertaining story.
I rated this book three and a half stars but bumped it up to four stars due to my interest in the lore and TNT.

A whole fictional series about the Mothman? What could be better than that? And Mae Clair has done an outstanding job of bringing the fearsome, tragic creature to life in her Point Pleasant series and making our hearts ache for him. A Cold Tomorrow is the second book in the series and is just as good if not better than the first book. I love this book, but it’s a challenge to review it without revealing one or more of the many surprising and satisfying twists and turns.
The story starts with the discovery of a mutilated cow. Soon after several dogs go missing in the Point Pleasant area, and a strange cloud appears in the sky. From there we are pulled along a wild ride that includes Mothman sightings, a mysterious deputy that no one can identify and whose face no one remembers, a UFO enthusiast, curious tourists, a damaged young man who claims to listen to a radio that has no batteries or plugs, UFO sightings, a disembodied voice that will answer only Yes or No questions, and a cast of characters who’ve seen things we don’t usually consider normal. Some in Point Pleasant blame the Mothman for everything that goes wrong and mount search operations to find him. And in the midst of it all, there are two very sweet romances, close friendships, much familial care and love, and mysterious men on the prowl.
I can’t tell you more without giving too much away. But if you are intrigued by the Mothman, or if you simply enjoy a well-written and imaginative tale full of suspense and surprise, you can’t go wrong by reading A Cold Tomorrow.
I was very excited to read the second book in the Point Pleasant series, and found I enjoyed “A Cold Tomorrow” as much as “A Thousand Yesteryears”. Ms. Clair continues with characters from the first book, along with UFOs, animal mutilations, mysterious drawings, men in black, an ex-boyfriend, and the Mothman. There was a budding romance between Ryan and Katie, but it’s the mystery and suspense that made it hard for me to put the book down. I loved the little details of the town, characters, and the Mothman legend that drew me into “their” story. This book is well-written with every element I enjoy in a fiction including: the paranormal, mystery, a bit of romance, and suspense. I’ll be diving right into the final book “A Desolate Hour”. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next! I highly recommend this book and series.
A Cold Tomorrow is a mixture of sci-fi, paranormal and romance. The story centers around a community that has had multiple UFO sightings and claims a bird-like creature called the Mothman inhabits the town.
It's an intriguing back story about the area and its creature, intertwined with the main characters' romantic interests. I found the parts describing the paranormal activity and the Mothman the most interesting.
I look forward to reading book 3 to see what happens next to the main characters and the infamous Mothman.
I think this book was better than the first one and really build on the moth man of mystery much more so than the first book. I like how she writes in a time that’s a few decades back and when I read the story it takes me back to my teenage youth.
I definitely will be getting the third story in this series and I think she’s an excellent story teller and brings all the pieces together in a believable way.
Another great title in the Point Pleasant series from Mae Clair. Perfect supernatural mystery with the fascinating Mothman lore and UFO sightings that are tied in nicely with a strong sense of place and likeable, interesting characters. Easy, fun read that is highly enjoyable and entertaining. Would not have found this author for our collection without netgalley!
Author Mae Clair returns to Point Pleasant, West Virginia in the second book of her Point Pleasant series, A Cold Tomorrow. To some in Point Pleasant, Katie Lynch had a difficult childhood. She and her sister were raised by a single-mother that most people think enjoyed the company of men a little too much. Katie knew that her mother was a hard-working business owner and someone that always provided nutritious meals for her daughters and tried to provide all that they needed, if not wanted. When Katie's older sister disappeared, most people assumed that she was "wild" and had run away. Now everyone knows that Wendy Lynch had been brutally murdered and buried outside of town all those years ago. Now a single mother herself, Katie is interested in providing a loving and stable home for her son, Sam, working hard at the Parrish Hotel, and growing her friendships with Eve Parrish and Sarah Sherman. Just when Katie thinks things are starting to settle down in Point Pleasant, she comes across a local conspiracy theorist in his car on the side of the road exhibiting very strange behavior. Afterward, she realizes she can't describe the officer that came upon the scene and the name she remembers isn't the name of any officer on any local police force. Adding to Katie's sense of unease, her ex-boyfriend has been spotted in town and is apparently out to get Officer Flynn, and her son's behavior is a bit strange and oddly familiar after he sees a "green cloud." If that's not enough, there are animals being found with strange deaths, the Mothman has been seen again, a local killer has disappeared from a closed room in a local mental facility, and a strange "man in black" is in town. What, if anything, ties these events together? Will Katie and Ryan Flynn be able to uncover the answers before something tragic occurs?
I found A Cold Tomorrow to be a fast-paced and intriguing read. If anything, Ms. Clair has raised the intrigue-quotient and paranormal-factor with this book. There's a lot more suspense, paranormal thrills and chills, and I can't wait for the next installment. I like that we get to see the continuing relationship between Eve and Caden, as well as watch the burgeoning relationship between Katie and Ryan. Ms. Clair has provided us with more information on the origin of the Mothman and the men in black (no, I won't tell you any more about either, read the book!). As I've previously stated, as a West Virginia native I'm always on the lookout for books set in West Virginia or written by West Virginians to read and this series has provided hours of pleasure. I've enjoyed reading about this real town and folk legend, combined with the fictional lives and events in these stories. If you enjoy paranormal romantic-suspense (with an emphasis on the paranormal) then you'll definitely want to read A Thousand Yesteryears and A Cold Tomorrow. If you've already read A Thousand Yesteryears, then I urge you to grab a copy of A Cold Tomorrow to read. My only regret with this series is that I have to wait until the Summer of 2017 for the third installment, A Desolate Hour, to find out what happens next.
Lyrical Underground and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of A Cold Tomorrow. This is my honest opinion of the book.
In December 1967, Katie Lynch's sister Wendy disappears after borrowing her mother's car. While waiting for her Mama to finish work, a terrible tragedy rocks her small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Years later, Mothman sightings and possible UFO's keep Officer Ryan Flynn of the Point Pleasant Police Department very busy. When Katie Lynch, who is now the manager of the Parrish Hotel, comes across and injured member of their community and turns over control of the scene to a local policeman, she calls Ryan for an update. This uncovers both a mystery and some strange happenings with regards to the townspeople. Will Ryan and his brother Caden, also in law enforcement, be able to figure out and stop the perpetrator before more people are hurt?
Big on mystery and light on the supernatural, A Cold Tomorrow does not go far enough into the otherworldly possibilities to sell the story for me. This book is basically a romantic suspense with a few tantalizing elements to set it apart from similar books in the genre. The story itself was good, but the author did not spend enough time developing the characters.
I love this kind of story. Not because it's about UFO's and the Mothman but because it is so well written. It keeps you on the edge as you see and feel it building in intensity. You know and care about the characters - some you will like and some are just kind of creepy. You are right there immersed in the story as it carries you along. You're there when the bridge collapses, when the the mothman suddenly swoops, when a man is invaded because he seeks answers, out in the woods trying to find the mothman... It will grab and hold your attention throughout. You're never quite sure who the bad guy is but there are plenty of hints, you just have to keep reading to figure out who and what is really going on. Very well done Ms Clair. Loved it.
