همه میدانند که چند دسته معلم داریم:حوصلهسربرها،بداخلاقها، آنهایی که زیادی سعی میکنند و آنهایی که خیلی وقت است دست از تلاش برداشتهاند.محال است بعضیهاشان را بعدها به یاد بیاوری و ترجیح میدهی بعضیها را فراموش کنی.ما به آخرین دسته میگوییم«خوبها»؛همانهایی که مدرسه را تا حدی قابل تحمل میکنند.وقتی متوجه میشوی با یکی از خوبها طرفی که به خودت میآیی و میبینی سرکلاس خودبه خود حواست جمع است؛حتی اگر آن کلاس،کلاس هنر نباشد.آنها همان معلمهایی هستند که سال بعد میخواهی پیششان بروی و بهشان سلام کنی؛همانهایی که نمی خواهی ناامیدشان کنی؛مثل خانم بیکسبی.🧡 📝 کتاب در مورد معلمی دوستداشتنی به نام خانم مارگارت بیکسبی هست که شاگردانش خیلی دوستش دارند و آرزوی همه هست که برای سال جدید تو کلاسش باشند.راوی داستان برند،توفر،استیو، سه همکلاسی هستند که هر کدوم داستان رو از دید خودشون خیلی بامزه تعریف میکنند😍خانم بیکسبی یک ماه مونده به آخر سال غیبش میزنه و مدیر مدرسه اعلام میکنه که اون مریض شده... این کتاب با جلد جذابش خیلی منو جذب کرد و داستانش رو هم خیلی دوست داشتم😍

One of the most humorous, heartwarming and tear-jerking chapter books I have ever read! This story is about three Grade 6 boys who spend a very special day for/with their teacher. The author's character development is so powerful! I felt a closeness to each one of the boys. I could actually feel their frustrations and pain in the intenseness of their actions. The interactions between the boys at the liquor store as well as with the owner of the bakery were hilarious! I often laughed out loud throughout the book! Some references to snot were a little off-putting, but they were far outweighed by the rest of the story. The performances were very well done in this audiobook. I highly recommend this book to be read aloud to students Grade 4 and up! This book should be a classic!

filmler beni daha çok ağlatır, herhalde görselliğin etkisiyle çok daha çabuk duygulanırım. ağladığım kitaplar da çoktur elbette, hatta hüngür hüngür ağladıklarım da vardır. bu kitap da onlardan biri oldu. öğretmen olmam, hayatta en çok öğrencilerimin beni "iyi" bir öğretmen olarak hatırlamasını istemem ve geçen yaz bir çok sevilen bir öğretmen arkadaşımızı erken yaşta kanserden kaybetmiş olmamız... sanırım bu üç etken şu an gözlerim şiş şiş oturmama neden oldu.

There are sad books for middle grades, and I've read and loved many of them, sympathized with the hurt of children, wishing they could grow a little more before facing loss. But this book teaches! It shows teachers why they must listen and watch their students so carefully, knowing that hiding true things is what they do, just like Ms. Bixby knows. And it shows friends-Steve, Brand and Topher-uncommonly loyal, something to remember to be, something to learn to be! I was teary through quite a lot of the story. John Anderson tells a story that satisfies, surprises, and makes me want to shout out to the world: READ THIS BOOK! So I am!

This book....is so deep, and has so many layers, I feel like I could read it a hundred more times, and still be blown away.
It's that good.
It all takes place during one afternoon, where three sixth grade boys set off to make an unforgettable day for their teacher who is in the hospital with stage 4 cancer. Even though it's about sixth graders, it feels so much like a coming of age story, of discovering....one's self.
We all have moments where we feel we aren't good enough. Where we feel like we have to pretend to be someone else just to get noticed. But somebody sees, Topher. Somebody cares. Somebody out there thinks you're the greatest thing in the whole world. Don't ever think you aren't good enough.
It's that good.

I reread this book for our discussion this afternoon in our kids book group. I cried just as much at the end as I did the first time I read it. I love this book so much and have recommended it to teachers, parents, and students time and time again.
My original review from two years ago follows below.
I seem to agonize over writing reviews for the books that I loved. I want to say all the right words to let people know how special the book was to me, but then months go by and I still can't seem to find the right words. This was one of those books. It's been months since I read it, but could never come up with the right words to say. So I'm going to stop trying to find the right words and just say whatever words come to me right now. This book touched my heart. It made me cry. It was so sweet and funny and genuine. What the three boys did for their favorite teacher who had a terminal illness was fun and crazy and inventive, but it was more than that. The plan that they carried out for her came from a place of respect and gratitude, and although the boys might not say it, love. And the ending? Maybe not the one I wanted or hoped for, but it was a realistic one.

Three friends are in the sixth grade class of the amazing Ms. Bixby, teacher-extraordinaire, who knows how to influence kids and parents toward what's best, provider of apt Bixbyisms for every situation, diffuser of tensions, promoter of good will.
The bottom falls out. Ms. Bixby has cancer and will not be able to finish out the year.
A plan forms. The three boys will break into the hospital housing Ms. Bixby and they will celebrate big, a perfect Ms. Bixbyish last day, complete with cheesecake and wine and McDonald's fries and the conclusion of The Hobbit.
Be prepared for tears. They are inevitable.

Bayan Bixby, Topher, Brand ve Steve’in “İyiler” kategorisindeki sevgili öğretmenleri. Zaman zaman pembe saçlı olabilen bir öğretmen. Birgün acı bir haberle sınıfına veda ediyor ve vefanın bir örneği hikayemiz başlıyor. Kendi hayatımdan da izler bulduğum çok çok güzel bir kitaptı.

Well, this made me bawl my eyes out. So I have to give it five stars.
Topher, Steve and Brand are sixth graders. They're the target of bullies, but they're also resilient and fun dudes. Topher is an artist with a wild imagination. Steve is a little like Spock, super logical and intelligent. Brand thinks there's nothing special about him, but the fact that his dad is disabled means Brand has taken on a lot of adult responsibilities, making him especially determined and capable.
These three friends each tell part of the story in turn. They go on a kind of quest to see their teacher Ms. Bixby in the hospital. It is, of course, part adventure and part comedy of errors. They have to skip school, take a bus into the city, and procure certain items, at least one of which is illegal for minors to purchase.
The heart of this story is each boy's connection to Ms. Bixby. She is a Cool Teacher (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php...) but it doesn't play like a stereotype. She gives each of these three boys what they need and they want to give her something back in her time of need.
Like The Great American Whatever, this manages to be both funny and heartbreaking, which is a winning combination like salty and sweet or comfortable and stylish. A perfect book for a 6th grader, just edgy enough not to be babyish (there's a little bit of swearing and just a touch of risque) but not beyond what an average preteen can handle.
There are allusions to great poetry, music and literature (you'll probably want to read or re-read The Hobbit after this and go look up Walt Whitman), which is a hallmark of the Cool Teacher. She turns you on to cool stuff.
Is it a drawback that Steve's character calls on a certain Asian-American stereotype? He has tiger parents and a perfect sister who's a pianist. In popular culture Asian people tend to be portrayed as logical, good at math, and socially reserved like Steve. But Steve is a well-developed character with a rich inner life. He is not just a series of stereotypical traits. Maybe his parents are, though. I'm not sure where I ultimately come down on this but I mention it because I'm sure there are readers who are tired of seeing this stereotypical set of attributes. But I did love Steve. To get into spoiler territory: And I liked what the author did with Steve's relationship with his sister.

Well, the beginning is trite. And the whole concept panders to those who consider themselves 'good teachers' and will buy the book for their students. And there's plenty of discussion themes, and bibliotherapy tags. Also it's full of stuff that will alert those who want to keep interesting books away from kids, so it will get on Banned Books lists, giving it more notice and cachet. So, cynical me says it's overrated.
But. It's engaging, and original, and gets better and better until the end at which point I'd fallen under its spell. Anderson knows boys. He knows how to write. He knows how to use science, classic culture, and pop culture references to make a book that will have appeal to any audience, now or in the future. So, avid reader me says it's a delight.
Recommended to anyone who is a boy, was a boy, ever knew a boy, or has had a good teacher.

Tekrar okuduğumda gördüm ki bu kitap kesinlikle şimdiden çocuk edebiyatının modern klasiklerinden biri olmuş. Olmadıysa da olacak, adım gibi biliyorum.
Her okunuşta apayrı tatlar, hisler veren kitaplardan bu, tıpkı her izlediğinizde tekrar tekrar duygulandığınız filmler gibi. Satır aralarında gizlenmiş müthiş çıkarımlar, olağanüstü bir duygusallık ve sonuna dek samimiyet. Acılarla sevinçlerin iç içe geçtiği adına hayat denen şeyin neredeyse birebir yansıması. Hepsinden öte, modernize Hobbit.
Spektaküler. Evet.

روز یکم فروردین، سرپرست و همکار سیسالهم از دنیا رفت. خیلی جوون و پرانرژی و به شدت دقیق و آیندهنگر بود. حتی یک روز هم نیست که بهش فکر نکنم. به این که چقدر حواسش بهم بود، چقدر زحمتها و پیشرفتهام رو میدید و بهشون افتخار میکرد. چقدر باهوش، جدی و سختگیر بود و در عین حال چقدر شوخی میکرد و میخندوند. کاش میتونستم بهش بگم چقدر ازش ممنونم، چقدر کار یادم داد، چقدر زحمت کشید و من چقدر دوستش دارم. از وقتی نیست احساس میکنم نامرئیام. فقط یه دنیا بغض و حسرت باهامه.
این کتاب رو تقریبا پنج سال پیش خوندم، ولی تازگی مدام بهش فکر میکنم؛ به جادویی که یک معلم خوب میتونه انجام بده.

Three boys, one epic adventure to visit their beloved 6th grader teacher who has been diagnosed with ductal adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer that attacks the pancreas. Can they skip school and give Ms Bixby the last day that she's hoped for without being caught?
Inspiring and sad (as you would expect with any book dealing with cancer), I loved all the characters telling the story of the epic day.

And these friends' teacher, Ms Bixby, is one of the good ones. She's a teacher that has made a huge impact on their lives. She's one of the ones that will be remembered, that has shaped their lives for the better. And she's sick. And she skipped out on the last few days of school before she started her treatment. And these guys are not going to end the year without telling her goodbye. Without giving her a day to remember. As they set off to give Ms. Bixby a day to remember, we get glimpses into the year, into their lives, and why Ms. Bixby is so important to them.

A special teacher (Ms. Bixby) catches the imaginations of three entirely different sixth grade boys--Topher, Brand, and Steve--by extending kindness and understanding to each one of them. They form a friendship with each other. When they discover that Ms. Bixby is unwell they do everything in their power to offer her a special and unforgettable day. In order to create the day, it meant that they had paid special attention during a certain writing prompt in class. The book is split into chapters in the voices of the three boys. Very well done! Pull out your Kleenex. And carnations are stronger than roses.

This is one that I know I'm supposed to like because of all it's rave reviews, but I just didn't really care for it much. The voices weren't different enough to differentiate which was which, and I got confused about the characters. My biggest struggle is that I think this is a book that adults will love but that kids probably won't.

What a perfect book! It was well-written, funny, and deeply moving. I would recommend it to all middle grade readers. Even readers who don't like serious or sad books might enjoy this one.

This book is a treasure. Three sixth grade boys tell about their epic adventure. They skip school together to go visit their teacher in the hospital and spend a last day with her. Their plan is intricate and involves multiple bus rides. Despite encountering multiple obstacles, they persevere. We read the story in alternating chapters giving each boy a voice. It took me a bit to get each boy straight, but it was worth it. What a tender, bittersweet, thrill of a ride. Highly recommended; filled with heart and wisdom for all ages.

Wow. That’s all I can say. Wow. This book was amazing, A-MA-ZING. I actually found out about this book through Audible and I read it, and I loved it.
Yes, I cried.

This book is as close to perfect as anything I've read in awhile. The character's narratives are as if they are speaking right into your ear. The book's voice is clear and charming. I will recommend this to all! I loved it so much.

Gözyaşlarıyla unutulmazlar rafına kondu. Z.O.Ç.K.O' yu iyi ki geçen yıl yayımlamışız dedirtti bana. Sanırım dünyadaki tüm " çocukların ne yaptığını değil ne hissettiğini düşünen öğretmenler" aynı şeyi yapıyor.
