About the author

James Kochalka is an American comic book artist and writer, and rock musician. His comics are noted for their blending of the real and the surreal. Largely autobiographical, Kochalka's cartoon expression of the world around him includes such real-life characters as his wife, children, cat, friends and colleagues, but always filtered through his own observations and flights of whimsy. In March 2011 he will be declared the cartoonist laureate of Vermont, serving a term of two years.

Now I enjoy this one! Maybe if I reread Fantastic Butterflies, I will enjoy it as well now that I'm getting familiar with Mr. Kochalka's style.
Thank God Jason X12 didn't appear in this book, although it was mentioned. It was such a gloomy robot dog :D. Gark's new robot was much more fun! Oh and there was also a party in this book. I'm sure Mr. Kochalka loves to party.

The quintessential Kochalka. Mixes autobiography and fantasy in an alarmingly unique fashion. Great balance of the mundane and the absurd; a nice combination of poetic moments and bizaare distractions.

Just like the rest of Kochalka's work, this book is whimsically sweet and simple. I prefer the American Elf diaries because they're more true-to-life -- no clingy robots or interludes of floating in space -- but this book is predictably wholesome.
