A strange virus has resurfaced in the Serengeti, not seen since the Second World War, infecting man and beast alike. Its victims soon become violent, viciously attacking anything that wanders into their path.
Logan Reed, a former Australian Special Forces soldier turned African game warden, is at the front line of this disastrous. Together with his team, including his sister, a Serengeti Zoologist, Logan searches for clues to the contagion's origin in hopes that knowing where it came from will help them stop it.

I love a good action thriller. I’m all for the violence and mayhem, but despite all this, this book really irritated me.
It seems like there are times that the characters are purposely trying to be stupid and get into situations where they could be killed, just so there could be some action!
Still, overall, it is a good book so I’m giving it four stars and I highly recommend this book to those who love violence, mayhem and over the top danger.
This first book of Matthew James' God Blood series starts out strong right out of the gate. A plague is sweeping through the Serengeti, and former Australian Special Forces soldier, Logan Reed - currently an African game warden - and a team (including his sister, CJ) are now on the frontlines, attempting to find the source of the virus's genesis. Unfortunately, they could never have foresaw just how insidious and dangerous of a situation they would find themselves, and very quickly discover they are up against animals (muskrats to lions) turned more ferocious and conniving than their (already predatory) former states. Team members sacrifice their lives so that others may live, as the entire team is pushed passed its limits in their fight for survival. The characters were all well-developed - demonstrating an impressive amount of wit, introspection, intelligence and selflessness throughout. It took me a few chapters to get in sync with narrator Maxwell Zener's voice. However, after getting through a few minor growing pains, he ended up keeping me on pins-and-needles till the heart-pounding cliffhanger of an ending. Book #2, Evolve is not (yet) available in audio, and I am eager to listen and find out how the storyline resolves. Especially since this first book in the series - Plague - ended with a riveting snippet of what is to come....
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story line was very interesting. Action packed and hard to put down. Looking forward to the next one and hope it comes out soon.
If you are a fan of Matthew Reilly than the comparison of this work from Matthew James is apt. Yet, Plague is even more over the top. You cannot go wrong when using Nazis as the villains especially if they include Heinrich Himmler and Josef Mengele. Then you need a bunch of modern special forces guys, a token tough female, and, of course, mutated humans and animals. Cue the action and illogic and you have an exceedingly fun read. The novel is perfect for a three-hour flight. It is fun escapism that would have benefited from better proofreading and tighter editing.
Lots of action in this monster filled thriller. Not bad. A good beginning to a series that I do plan to follow. Not quite as detailed as "Ice Station Zero" by Matt Reilly, but it has plenty of action along those lines.
A high body count for both the SAS heroes and the Delta operators. Good ole Nazi's as the villains and creators of these almost unstoppable monsters. I plan to read other titles by this author.
An interesting and somewhat unique mix of apocalyptic fare. The local is the African Serengeti, we are presented with a guest appearance by Josef Mengele of Angel of Death infamy, and our leading man Logan Reed is a game warden and former SAS Special Forces operator. Now we roll all this up into an exciting and fresh tale of biological warfare gone bad. The characters are great and although the background is lacking, the story is interesting and the action fast-paced so you don’t notice. There is a follow-up volume Evolve, where Logan heads to the Congo to investigate the origins of the virus. I look forward to this second volume as soon as Audible acquires it. Action packed with characters you love (and hate) from the start. There's even an Easter egg from another beloved series! So maybe we'll see more of the two series come together? I hope so! Set in Africa, with plenty of action, mythology, adventure, horror, and thrills; PLAGUE hits the ground running and doesn't stop! I have come to love reading Matt James as much as I enjoy Jeremy Robinson. Do yourself a favor and check out his books!
Absolutely loved the book. This was a new twist on "zombies" and had me hooked from the beginning. Cannot wait to see what the Congo holds in store for Logan and his team.
Normally I read zombie books, while the creatures in this book weren't zombies, they were close enough. This was an exciting and intense read with a lot of blood and Gore.
This is a zombie storyline that didn't revel itself as such before I made the purchase. That being the case I felt somewhat deceived about the true content of the book. Another few chapters added to the book sample would solve that issue, better yet the book review should definitely include the zombie storyline in the books description. I just don't like zombie stories and there are soon many of them. I read half the book before stopping, why spend time reading something that I wasn't enjoying. I just hate wasting my money that way. One of my problems with the book was the fact that 2 of Mr James characters had the same partial names as some characters in a different authors series. The coincidence was unfortunate for me as in my own mind I had difficulty in separating them as a completely different separate work. I have read several of the authors Hank Boyd series and enjoyed them tremendously, so Mr James can write a really good and readable story. Mythros
Phew! What a book. Had to just read a few chapters at a time. The action was superb, but scary as well. Hope to hell this never happens in the real world. Felt so sorry for the animals though, because they didn't have any understanding of what was going on. And that sort of goes for the humans, too. But have a feeling it is far from over. Would recommend to anyone who loves this kind of book. Plague, monsters and just pure evilness.
5.0 out of 5 starsA frightening new thriller ByMiss Lynon January 26, 2016 Format: Kindle Edition This book by Matthew James is amazing. It left me absolutely breathless with it's thrills,non-stop action ,compelling characters and fearsome monstrous animals. A virus has turned the animals and people of the Serengeti into ravenous monsters, killing everything in their way. It is up to Logan and his team to try and stop them. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hello, great story. The Nazis seem to always make the story better. Suped up freaks galore. Blood everywhere. I would like to see a part 2. The anti hunting thing bothered me a little bit, but everyone has their opinion. Good story. Thanks.
The premise of this book is excellent. The events that occur are nail biting. My biggest complaint is the biology and the physiology explanations are weak or inconsistent. I would like to read the next book.
This is another excellent book to read. I enjoyed every part of of it. You will enjoy reading and felling as if you are in the middle of the adventure.
Love the story line of this book. A different twist with a mix of mystery, sci-fi, killings and double crossing. Based on the occupation of Logan Reed the warden of the Serengeti park and his family and friends and their adventures or mis adventures in their life. A gripping book and definitely one that you can't put down. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone interested in some thing different.
This book grabbed me from the very beginning.... and I did not put it down until the last page. I certainty hope there is a sequel planned! The main characters were believable and real. The story plot fun and weird. Read it...!
