Find out what the heck is in your kid's head! Find out what's in your lover's head...
With this book you get to "Be Freud"!
The House, Sun, Tree, Ax, Path, Snake DRAWING TEST. One of the most powerful psychoanalytical tools you will ever use.
Drawing tests are a direct window to the soul - our subconscious mind. This drawing test is so powerful it is even used by clinical psychologists. It is related to the HTP (House Tree Person DRAWING test) but it has added elements for even more accuracy and more REVEALING revelations!
After doing this profile drawing test with your friends you will think it's almost unfair to have this knowledge in your hands! -- But...oh well, that's the power of psychology isn't it?
We've all heard of Sigmund Freud, we all know how controversial a man he was, and he remains famous, his work acknowledged, to this day. Yeah, well this handy little book was dedicated to him. Important to note, we learn very little about Freud and his theories. Eric, however, does venture into Freud's ideas of the conscious, unconscious, preconscious etc.
I would definitely describe this book as handy in that it can help you learn more about yourself, and if others do the exercise (just a simple drawing) you can learn about them too. And when I say learn, I mean anything from how rooted the individual is in their home life, how certain they are about their life goals, how they feel about their current relationship, their family, themselves etc...This book allows readers to access the opinion of a non clinical psychologist, Eric, alongside the professional opinion of Daryl.
The only flaw is that Eric knew the individuals, I feel this would have made his opinions on the clients more subjective, as he was aware of certain details e.g. the stability of their relationships. So I feel, strangers should have been used.
I did like the informal tone of writing, particularly from Eric, it was refreshing: you don't typically get books of this nature written in such a style. Though at times, because it was something I'm unused to, it made the book more fun than academic- surprising, considering one of the authors was a professional psychologist. However because, apparently this book is meant to 'Be Fun ' I have not let this affect my rating. Also, I appreciated the frankness and honesty of their opinions, while this isn't especially rare in Psychology, for it's one of the reasons the discipline can be controversial, it was direct and easily accessible.
Note: this book is quite short, it helps you understand and use one psychological tool designed to be fun. It provides various cases in which the tool has been applied, allowing for you to understand how you can use it yourself. Very simple.
I received this book for free, in exchange for review consideration. This in no way affected my opinion of the book, or the content of my review
