This book is about Galen Odgers and his family. He grew up in a small town, his father a drunk with a brain injury and two other siblings. His mother recently died from breast cancer. The book centers on the life of him and his long time girlfriend Kiersten. What I found really frustrating was that every time they came close to having a happy ending he would run off and block her out from his world.

Cam is a lonely guy with a loose mother and Coach is his only father figure in his life. Galen comes along to the team and he's insanely jealous of how Coach treats him.

I loved how this book unraveled there was so many surprises and it was really a real life story that I could easily see happening, maybe it's because I live in a small town as well.

A gradual love story

When we are younger we dive right into things impulsively. Then we learn regardless of the decisions we make especially if there are consequences or not. Galen reminded Me that we all make mistakes especially in our relationships however because we grew from them they were worth it. Kjersten was the heroine who took a beating but kept on going. I felt very strongly that she could make a difference in Galen instead of Cam. I was disappointed that Cam didn't learn or grow from his experiences. Overall this was a great story and I enjoyed it.

Isabelle Kane writes a deft new adult romance story that takes place in all-American small town where football is everything. The plot sets up clear stakes from the get go - beautiful blonde Kjersten is torn between two football-hero suitors, Cam and Galen. I found myself rooting for Galen and turning the pages to find out who she chooses in the end (I won't put any spoilers here). As a subplot, the author weaves in the revelation of a time-honored secret among the town's older generation. Although we can easily read between the lines here, I again eagerly turned the pages in anticipation of how the secret will unfold and crash land with the affected characters. There are some intimate sex scenes that really spiced up the story, and made the characters seem all the more authentic given today's hookup culture. Isabelle Kane writes clear, straightforward prose that made this novel an easy, enjoyable read, ideal as a relaxing beach book, or conversely, great to curl up with when it's just too cold to go out.

Eagle River is a New Adult sports themed romance set in and around Wisconsin and revolves around the sport of American football.

Kjersten and Galen were school sweethearts but broke up when Galen's mother died. Unable to deal with the loss Galen cut Kjersten off, but never forgot her. When he sees her with a rival football star at a local fair, Galen's jealousy rockets. He vows to apply to a college away from Kjersten.

Galen's father is a disabled drunk, but Galen's always had lots of support from his football coach, a man troubled by a secret he holds. At coach's wedding, Galen and Kjersten are brought together once more, but their relationship path is still a rocky one, just how many times can a girl be left dangling before she walks away?

This storyline theme is a popular one, with high spirited players and a love triangle. I would like to see it have another run through editing to iron out areas with clunky dialogue, typos and areas where it needs it a bit of a polish to make it more of an enjoyable read.
