Cheri Huber, author of 20 books, has been a student and teacher of Zen for over 35 years. In 1983, Cheri founded the Mountain View Zen Center, and in 1987 she founded the Zen Monastery Peace Center near Murphys, California. She and the monks at the Monastery conduct workshops and retreats at these centers, other places around the U.S., and internationally.
In 1997, Cheri founded Living Compassion, a nonprofit organization dedicated to peace and service. Living Compassion’s primary work is the Africa Vulnerable Children Project, based in Zambia, where for over a decade they have been working with the people of Kantolomba, beginning the process of turning a slum of 11,000 people into a self-sustaining community.
Cheri also has a weekly Internet based radio show.
This book should be titled "guided mindfulness meditation 101." This was less about self acceptance and more about the practice of mindfulness to me. Also, many of the self-reflective activities focused on emotions and memories of early childhood. Because I have a horrible memory, I had trouble engaging with those activities and didn't really feel they increased my self-acceptance at all.
I have read several other books to assist me with inner child work including John Bradshaw. The audio of this book with all the guided mediations is the best I have found in getting me to the pain and help me heal my wounds. An amazing book.
As everything Cheri produces it is simply the best! Funny, I came across this book in 2014 and I didn't like it but in 2022 it hit the bliss point. Personal evolution in action.
Perhaps I'm too narrow minded to perceive the great wisdom that lies within this guided meditation. Perhaps I should have given it a couple more tries. She misquotes Socrates, credits Thoreau.
