A boy is missing, and Emma needs to find him fast. The High Seat's request to hunt down a traitor on the Council will just have to wait.
When Emma's search leads her to the gritty underground where half-blood children are made to fight for sport, she'll require every ounce of cunning and skill she has to bring the operation down. She must not only mingle with the arrogant nobles who run the operation but finally face down the one person who means her the most harm - her sister, Aveline.
Putting off the High Seat's task, however, may be a bigger risk than she bargained for...
Amy Hopkins lives in Australia with her husband, two kids, one dog and four chickens. She’s most often seen (or, more to the point, not seen) hiding in the hammock on her back deck, listening to the local wildlife as she reads a very large book.
Her heroes are Lessa of Benden Weyr, Lady Kettricken and Elspeth of Obernewton.
A Splash Of Truth is the third book in the Talented series by Amy Hopkins.
I find no fault in saying the amount with which I came to cherish and love this series was truly unexpected. I was more than happy to fall down the rabbit hole following Emma’s journey, at every twist and turn. I find myself saddened, knowing this next book will probably be the last in series, but unable to withhold myself from diving in.
In society today the outlandish degree of prejudice that plagues the dying hearts of man today astounds and disgusts me. In finding books of this nature that lay these injustices before us, while fantastically folly in nature, outline this travesty in depth. The spotlight this book and others of its kind shine one such issues, engenders me towards them all the more.
While we are talking of ridiculously unpractical classifications of distinction, it bears too similar to the realistic disparity today.
Emma’s family brings me happiness. With its growing numbers, boundless protectiveness to all included, and fight against the injustice of those who can’t seem to fight for themselves.
All that wrapped up in the pretty bow of an amazingly strong and humble heroine.
I loved this book !!!! It had so many different twists and turns th a t kept you wanting more!! Emmaline definitely has some tricks up her sleeve and the crew is always working together, even if they are different... I cannot wait to read the next book . I definitely recommend this book
This series is quite the adventure. Some characters are rich. I love the magic system and the main character reminds me of myself. The love interest(s) are not cliche. Not quite good enough to read again. Unfortunately, I cannot find the fourth book for free so I will have to stop reading the series here and let my i.aginatkon finish the story
This series keeps getting stronger, the longer it does. I am so excited to move on to #4 here and see how this wraps up. The author’s story arc is really, really coming together.
I really love this series. The world building is different and exciting. The books touch on murder, then on pet smuggling, and in this book, on children slavery. Not usual themes and very well solved. I recommend it
Truth Taker will grab you and hold you mercilessly as you yet again join Emma Beaumarchais, tea seller and de facto protector of the half-bloods of London. Her adventures, and the lessons she learns about herself, as she works to rescue a missing boy and uncover the truth that no full-blooded Talent wants you to know.
Amy Hopkins newest release in her Talented series, which includes Dream Stalker and Barrow Fiend, is Truth Taker and it is truly another work of art. Truth Taker is a fantasy set in a modern day magical London complete with Boggarts and fae. It is available on Kindle for immediate download.
The series follows Emma Beaumarchais, a half-blood talent who runs a tea shop in London. As the series moves she is slowly being pulled away from her beloved tea business to stand up for her fellow half-bloods as they suffer persecution and neglect from both the mortals and the Talents. In Truth Taker this takes her to the underworld where half-bloods are merely a commodity to be owned and pitted against each other for entertainment. In doing so she makes promises and commitments that even she may have trouble following through on. Add to this her promise to the high seat and Emma has her hands full.
How Amy Hopkins fits so much story into one book is beyond me, but she does. Truth Taker, like its predecessors is a page turner that will leave you hungering for the next one when you finish it.
I was delighted to be offered an ARC of Truth Taker in exchange for my honest review. Dream Stalker was the first of my Indie novels a few months ago and I am hooked on Hopkins first person narrative as Emma herself tells me the fantastic story that her life is becoming as she tries to be true to herself and her fellow half-bloods. It took me a while to get to book 2, Barrow Fiend because of other commitments and I happened to finish a few days before her newsletter offered ARC's of Truth Taker. Believe me when I say I jumped at the chance! My only regret is having to wait for the next one now. I can't recommend this series enough.
"What I found out...Emma, do you understand how lucky we both were? Most kids like us, they don't have very nice lives. Being born without magic, it's a stain on the family name as much as parenting a half-blood. Some women dump their children at orphanages, others...well, they pay a fee, hand the baby over, and never have to worry about it again. I don't know why my mother did what she did, but I think maybe she knew." Turning the teacup in his hands, he stared into it as if looking for answers. "I never was one for wishful thinking, but just this once...it'd be nice to assume she did it because she cared, right? Didn't want her son to end up fighting in a pit, or beaten half to death as a slave?" Truth Taker: Talented, Book 3 By Amy Hopkins
In the midst of the privilege and glitter of the Talented society there is an evil stain that thrives underground. Children are bought and sold, half-blood children, put in a ring to fight each other for the enjoyment of morally reprehensible Talented. Emma is drawn into this seedy underbelly to try to save one of the many souls trapped in the pain of the pits. At the same time she is tasked with a job from the high-seat. Unlikely alliances are made and Emma has to utilize her gifts along with help from the Fae to save as many children as she can. But when getting help from The Guardians one has to be careful what they promise. This third installment leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next.
Secrets abound and Emma finds herself in the thick of them as she sets forth to locate a missing boy. (No spoilers-only my feelings) I found myself laughing, crying, and cheering throughout the book and didn't put it down until I finished. There is a main story-line (no cliff-hanger) and several other stories that continue to develop within the series. Backstories on some of the characters are filled in, which I love as I have already grown attached to them. I received an arc and although I was not asked to leave a review, I feel that this book deserves one.
All of the magic from the previous Talented series books is still here. Amy Hopkins is great a creating a magical tale with complex characters and interesting plots. I'm really enjoying every book in this series. Looking for many more from this author.
Fun look at a rebel rattling the cages of the established magic, fae, and mortal elitist ruling classes. Can her sense of right and wrong last under these pressures?
