Insurrection is the true story of ancient, militant Hebrews who waged a daring unconventional war to win their freedom from the Greek empire that had enslaved them. Based on historical accounts of the uprising that shook an empire, Insurrection tells the tale of the rustic, humble rebel-leader Judah. Often facing impossible odds, he defeated the oppressors in so many battles that his people came to believe he was invincible. They called him “Maccabee,” (The Hammer). The Maccabean Revolt liberated the Jewish people, crippled an empire, and founded a dynasty. In the sprawling, epic tradition of Stephen Pressfield and James Clavell, this first novel by Brandon Teskey will keep you turning the pages long into the night.
I have rarely read such an enthralling story. This amazing work of historical fiction sheds light on the age-old struggle for survival and freedom of worship of the Jewish people. I devoured the entire book over Thanksgiving. Impossible to lay down.
