Have you ever found yourself stuck with a job that’s so far from your true calling, you hear yourself swear that you’re going to quit and start over? Most of us have, but only a lucky few actually make good on those desperate oaths.
Jessica Franchetti realized how miserable she was when her boss handed her a new name tag that read: “I’m not really a waitress.”
The way she saw it, she had every reason to move on. After all, she was a newbie witch, a rookie cryptozoologist, and a young woman with a secret wish for a paranormal romance with a real Shifter. You know, the kind of romance she reads about, the kind that would knock her socks off.
Standing on the threshold of her twenty-second summer, all she needed was to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks to a nudge from her cousin, Kelly, that direction took her straight to Assjacket, West Virginia. Certainly, she’d find at least one hot Shifter to dig her stilettos into. Right?
Unfortunately, Assjacket is also home to some pretty crazy witches and they’re nothing like Kelly and her friends at Witches Union Local 1313. It turns out, they have their own boss and their own rules. They might not be too happy if they find out the newcomer is a young novice witch, especially if they learn she’s a Union witch.
Will it be an awesomely magical summer where Jessica’s wish comes true? Or will she find herself on the business end of a wrath-fueled witch’s wand?

In this story we get Jessica you know the witch we met in a previous book. She traveled back in time and now is learning witchy stuff with her cousin Kelly and oh, and Ezzy. And where else would a witch want to live? Assjacket, WV ha-ha too funny well to me it is. Witches can have playmates but when it comes to shifters that is as far as it's allowed but will that stop things from happening for Jessica? We shall find out as she is off to Assjacket to study the ins and outs and under the sheets of shifters. Jessica runs into the the witches of the area while there and things just do not go too well at all.
And bring your pee-pads as we get antics from Nonna and Maria as well these two are beyond hilarious. And Tiago the bird is a hoot. And a pesky raccoon who we find out may be just what Jessica needed.
Oh and I cannot forget Rollan who Jessica has the hots for.
I enjoyed this very humorous book.

This is a fun spicy romance with a good amount of humor thrown in. I love the quirky personalities of the characters. I listened to the audiobook, the narrator does a great job of embodying the characters.

I adore this book! Written as part of Robyn Peterman's Magic & Mayhem World, it quickly grabbed my attention and kept me reading. I loved how the author included favorite characters from her other series - even if they were only mentioned- as part of the story. Melanie James has written another story that is sure to delight and tickle your funny bone. I hope we get to see more from these characters in the future!

"Magic and Mayhem: When You Witch Upon A Star" (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Melanie James crosses over her "Literal Leigh" series with Robyn Peterman's "Magic and Mayhem" series. Jessica Franchetti, was recently introduced to the world of magic when she accidentally got swept back in time while visiting her cousin Randy at the Paranormal Plantation. She knows that part of being a fledgling witch is to protect the creatures she's recently met, but that doesn't mean she's going to give up her dream of being a cryptozoologist. In fact, Kelly, another one of her cousins, lets her in on a little secret. Shifters were spotted in Assjacket (not the real name of the town, but the real name is never given) West Virginia. Taking all of her savings with her, Jessica decides to have an adventure of her own with the hope of landing her very own shifter romance. The catch is that she just has to keep off the radar of the non union witches in the area.
Overall, this was another fun filled novel written by a great author. If any two writers are to do cross overs together, it's these two ladies. If you like either one of their work, you'll love this novella.

Strange book and I can’t really recommend sadly
So.this is a weird book. Nothing happens. Yeah two girls meet and hang out and both met guys but you didn’t like any of the characters as they were all a bit annoying or self-centred and shallow, no fedeeming qualities, so I just didn’t get it and I was waiting for there to be a storyline or point or something.. but until the last about 5pages, yeah nothing...and I usually quite like this writer, what a disappointment.

The storyline seems to have been overtaken by the pursuit to find their sex partners
Sorry but having read some other books by this author I have to say that I was disappointed in this. The storyline seems to have gotten lost in the drive to find their sex partners. The characters really seemed shallow. Shame as I was really forward to this.

Excellent!
I really enjoyed this well written book. This author truly writes a binge worthy bunch of books. They have well developed characters. They all have storylines that are well developed and detailed. There are many laugh out loud moments. These books truly were a joy to read.

It never ceases to a amaze me how an authors imagination works. But they do and it came different and fun. This book plot was creative to say the least.

This looks is a very funny book. With lots of humour and good fun characters it’s a hit for me. A brilliant performance really helps the book flow.

This is a great book; this is part of the Magic and Mayhem Kindle Worlds series. This book was written by Melanie James. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read this one you will want to go back and read the other books in this series. The books that are written in this series are all written by different authors and all live in the same world as Robyn Petterman’s Magic and Mayhem series. Jessica Franchetti is a newbie witch, a rookie cryptozoologist, and a young woman with a secret wish for a paranormal romance with a real Shifter. You know, the kind of romance she reads about, the kind that would knock her socks off. Standing on the threshold of her twenty-second summer, all she needed was to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks to a nudge from her cousin, Kelly, that direction took her straight to Assjacket, West Virginia. Certainly, she’d find at least one hot Shifter to dig her stilettos into. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. Comically Enchanting:
A great story with lots of laughs. A novice witch moving to Assjack, Virginia. That is absolutely priceless. Jessica was doomed in a matter of speaking from the get go. Meeting Gina who is almost just like her was great. Throw in Rollan and Greg, oh my you are going to be giggling from start to finish. Jessica is a cryptozoologist. She is in the search for supernatural creatures. Too bad she ruins into one of the most unsuspecting shifters of all. She is more interested in Bigfoot, vertebrates and the loch Ness monster. Not a cute cuddly kind of shifter. Then there is Tiago. Her porn star talking and singing parrot. Some of the things that bird came up with. I was spitting out my drink in places.

When You Witch Upon a Star by Melanie James was a great read. I thought this was a great spin-off novella to the Literal Leigh series. This story follows Jessica Franchetti, who is the cousin of Kelly and Randy from the Literal Leigh series. Jessica is a new and untrained witch and hopes to be a cryptozoologist. She also hoped to have a summer romance when she goes away to get her cryptozoologist certification. Only things never go completely right for these witches. I really enjoyed reading about Jessica's travels and what happens to her. I hope that we get more of Jessica and her friend Gina's story. I can't wait to read more by Melanie James.

After taking an accidental journey through time with Gerti and friends Jessica found out she was a witch. With summer break she goes on another adventure to find Shifters and some romance.
As with all new witch things never go the way you expect and mayhem and mischief are always involved. Jessica falls for Rollan and her new BFF Gina for Greg, will their summer be all they hoped for or will the none-book witches reunion it.
Loved this story and can't wait for more Jessica and Gina adventures.

I really enjoyed this novella. You are meeting an apprentice witch who has hopes of meeting a shifter over the summer. She moves to a new city hoping to meet one and yet at the same time not stir up trouble with the covenant that already exists in the new town. Any who has read Melanie James before knows that this combination is not possible without a few laughs along the way!

Cute Story
I first have to say, I love Melanie James and read all of her stories. So, I was thrilled that she was in the Magic and Mayhem series!
I love that some of her characters popped up in the story of Assjacket, WV, even if it was only for the summer.
This story brought me back to my highschool days if the forbidden Cosmopolitan mags and the "wonderful" information it provided.
Like I said cute story!

This book can be read as a stand alone but also can be combined to be read with others in the series. I will have to check it out. I enjoyed the mentioning of how life's journey can be so like the yellow brick road from the Wizard of Oz. It puts great imagery in my mind of reaching a goal. This was a great story idea and the writing kept me reading. There were funny parts in the story like how she ended up living where she was.

I want to be one of these witches! I love every single one that Melanie writes. This book had me laughing as per usual. I was also worried about the trouble that Ezzy would pull this go round. I love how Melanie keeps us up to date with her other characters as well. If i could give this book 10 stars i totally would. If you have yet to read any of this author's books you are missing out for sure!

I love a!! of Melanie James books. Her writing a book for Magic & Mayhem is awesome. I love this series and this book. It was cool to see Randy & Kelly F. expanding their family. Not to mention Zelda popping up in this book. I love how all the Authors stories in this series go together so well! Fun book, fun series.

Another great story
Just love Melanie James' stories. When you witch upon a star was good story. I like the spin off aspect it keeps the other characters fresh and I find that easier when a new story from a previous series comes out. Great work thanks to Melanie James for sharing her talent.

Cute & quirky!
Another hilarious book in the great series. The characters and plots are very entertaining. The magic & mayhem series is a must have for the readers who love magic, witches, shifters, & all the funny & perilous situations in which they find themselves.
