Brody Rivers faces three he’s part Native in a bigoted town; there’s been family violence and his father is in jail for murder; and he’s inherited an eerie and unwelcome psychic “gift” from his addled grandmother. At sixteen, Brody takes over a rural grocery route and the advances from a lonely, married woman, Lizzy Baker, add to his burdens. He also feels a strange but undeniable connection with a young girl on his route, Tricia Porter. As a series of events torment him, Brody struggles to understand his ability as an empath. He’s haunted by a vivid and recurring nightmare and his concern for Tricia’s safety deepens. At the same time, his involvement with Lizzy threatens to destroy his life. When a January blizzard comes out of nowhere, so does the spirit of a woman who triggers a vague memory. The confrontation that erupts between the main characters is as intense as the storm that crippled Huron County during the winter of 1971.
Library Book Club selection. Found this tedious, repetitive and very, very poorly edited. Implausible situations, and some of the "mysteries" not resolved.
What a beautifully written book! Every scene is enhanced with beautiful background descriptions. Metaphors and similes are abundant helping to interpret the author's story. The reader actually feels as though they are "on set". The characters are totally believable, just normal people trying to get through life as best they can and often find themselves stymied by the hands of fate. A great story, a great setting (Huron County Ontario) and a very interesting conclusion. A must read!
Another amazing book by Sandi! Well written with a page turning storyline. Couldn't wait to see what was to happen next! Really enjoyed her first book, "Broken Chain" and could hardly wait for this one. Looking forward to seeing another great book written by Sandi.💖
