Magic and Mayhem Universe

Witchin' in the Kitchen

Rate this book
Tossed from place to place since her mother and sister were hanged in Salem in 1692, Deliverance Parker has lived with a pox upon her head for three hundred and twenty-four years. A product of a misplaced lightning and thunder spell, Dee is caught in Mother Nature’s fury each time a storm kicks up. While tumbling from place to place, new life to new life, Deliverance is always looking, but never able to find the one thing that can break her spell—true love.

When a violent twister drops her into a West Virginia town filled with Witches and Shifters, she sets out to do the one thing that’s kept her happy over the centuries—bake. Opening the Beguiling Bakery, she’s greeted by new friends, but also an enemy as old as Baba Yaga’s favorite tube top.

Now fearing for her very life, she’ll cast a spell with the help of her mother’s oldest friend and her new found familiar, hoping an enchanted Kissy Cake will help bring her closer to true love with her Shifter landlord—that is, before the man who’s tracked her for three centuries ends her existence.

Take one pound of sworn enemy, three cups of Baba Yaga—mix in a couple of scorching hot Shifter twins and a tangy familiar named Felix, and watch the icing melt off the muffin.

When it comes to this witch, enchanted love isn’t a piece of cake.

An entertaining short story about witch looking for her true love to help end a curse. The characters are well-developed for such a short story. The plot is good and the resolution quick but complete. I enjoyed it very much.

I absolutely loved the book. Dee has lived for a very long time. After seeing her mother and sister die back in 1692. So she travels the world until she ends up in a little town called A$$. She still gets tickled. She has been cursed along with the man who killed her mom and sister. To break it she must find love and kill him. In a town full of witches and shifters this shouldn't be a problem. Deliverance has only ever loved on man and she swore off everyone else. Will she run out of time to find happiness? Will the killer win in the end?

Deliverance has spent her life moving from location to location, guided by her emotions which produce storms that take her to her new home. She has currently landed in a town inhabited by supernatural residents and learns more about her heritage and enemy. Her new familiar is hilarious. The story moves fast and it was fun to visit these quirky characters.

I have no idea whether any of you have ever heard of Kris Calvert before, but if you like a supernatural comedy... this book is for you. To be honest I don't even remember where I got it.

The other day I was scrolling through my eReader app looking for a book to read, preferably one that I hadn't already read (I love rereading, but sometimes you want something new), and I found Witchin' in the Kitchen by Kris Calvert, it had a wonderful cover. And I thought, that it was about time I read a comedy.

It is beautifully written, the characters are masterfully lifelike. Deliverance Parker is a 340 year old witch and has been blowing around the U.S. with the storms since she was 16 and survived the Salem Witch Trials. When the story really starts we meet her just as she has blown into yet another town, and just as things are getting really interesting.

Along the way we meet the love of Deliverance's life - a bobcat shifter, his identical twin, Baba Yaga, Deliverance's familiar... a mouse, and the Reverend John Hale who has been living (poorly) on the same curse as Deliverance, and who had her mother and sister hung in the Trials and is out to get Deliverance if it's the last thing he does.

At 88 pages it's by no means a long read, and it's probably better for it. A nice little pick me up in the afternoon over a pot of tea and a Kissy Cake with Sexual Sugar might be just what the doctor ordered.

I don't often give a five star review to such a short book, but this one had me in proverbial stitches. A well deserved 5 stars *****

P.S. the recipe for Deliverance's magical Kissy Cakes with Sexual Sugar is at the end of the book, I might have to give it a go and see what happens.

Deliverance Parker has been tossed around place to place since her mother and sister were hanged in 1692. As her mother was about to die, she cast a spell on the evil Reverend John Hale and Deliverance got into the path and was cursed as well as Hale. So to break the curse she must find true love. And she has also found out she has to kill Hale for the curse to break. She don't think she can find true love. She loved a shifter a long time ago but she was blown out of town after seeing him talking to another lady. No one has come close to love since then. So now with the help of her familiar, Felix the mouse, and her land lord who she is really attracted to....she is bound and determined to at least kill Hale and maybe find love with her land lord. Who is someone she knows from her past she just doesn't know it yet.

I loved this short by Kris Calvert. It was really well written and kept me attention from the very first page! One of my favorites in the Kindle World so far!

This novella is a quick and easy read that is fun and entertaining. Deliverance's extreme emotions causes her to blow in from town to town in search of the means to break the spell she unwittingly fell into more than 300 years prior by finally finding her one true love and defeating her nemesis. I sure hope this is only the beginning of a new series by Kris Calvert and I look forward to reading what's next for Dee the witch and the wacky paranormal residents now that she's landed in her new home town. And the final treat at the end of the book is the recipe for Kissy Cakes that may just have the magic necessary to cast a love spell on the person who eats it.

This is my first kindle world experience and I must say I'm excited to read more. This author managed to capture the Magic and Mayhem world beautifully. It's a short fun story with lots laugh out loud moments plus sassy and zany characters just as should be. Love, magic and an old curse to break. After being alone for three hundred years this means Deliverance has her work cut out for her. Oh and Felix her familiar who is also a mouse make one heck of a great read. I also enjoyed the bits of history included in this story it gave it an extra special touch

You definitely know it's a great story when you are done reading it and you want to find out more...what happens to Bazel, Baba and the cupcake, does Felix get his own story lol. Totally worthy of a read AND a read over...and over...and over!

A wonderful read. Witchin' in the Kitchen is a novella writen for the Magic and Mayhem series. A series of short stories from some of comedic fantasy's best authors. Even if you haven't heard of any of the writers before, I have no doubt you will become a fan of several if not all of them.
