One small girl escapes the Holocaust. Simple and touching
I loved this 48 page picture book. The decision to have all the interior pictures black and white was brilliant and lends another layer to the story. Mariliee Crowe's simple text and K.C. Snider's beautiful illustrations make a wonderful combination. Ellie's parents and older sister have no hope of leaving Nazi Germany, but they find a way to send Ellie on a journey to her aunt and uncle in America. You get a picture of what this time looked like to a child. I would give this more stars, but I only get to do five.
