Two warring civilizations. Two warriors who should hate each other. Two fighters who discover love transcends space, time, and war!
Talia was on the fast track in the Combined Interstellar Fleet until the terrible day she lost her ship and her career came to a screeching halt. Now she's stuck in a dead-end job defending the home system where there's never any action. Even worse, she can't she stop thinking of the sexy shimmering blue alien who destroyed her career!
Jorav was feared. Respected. Uncle to the emperor, the fiercest warrior in the Livisk Ascendency, and a tactical mind that made him the most respected general in living memory. Until that terrible day. The day a human female defeated him and destroyed his world. The day he lost his honor. So why can't he get thoughts of that pesky and alluring human out of his mind?
Neither knows it, but they're about to go head to head for the second time. Only the human/livisk war isn't the only thing that's going to heat up around them this time! Sparks flash brighter than a super nova as the Star Warrior meets the only human to ever best him in battle and makes her his!
The first section of the Star Warrior series. Talia and Jorav are enemies. Talia is human from Earth and Jorav is Livisk. They can't help but be attracted to each other while trying to kill one another.
It just didn't work for me. The whole theme/plot sounded great and it had a few moments but it never really grabbed me and I almost stopped a few times. Plus it wasn't complete due to the whole cliffhanger thing.
The world building had a lot of weak points that kept me from getting into the story. While there were a few things I liked, overall I wasn't captured by the 'romance' and don't really care to find out what happens next. This could be edited more thoroughly.
It's a great start to the series and it has a happy for right now ending. I love how Talia and Jorav just can't get each other off their minds, even years after their disasterous encounter. And how they keep counting how many times each has bested the other.
I have got to read the whole series! I love the snarky comments between the two.
IT WAS SO GREAT!!!! *insane cackling* Relatable, awesome characters that you can root for. Hot scenes. Smart, funny dialogue and writing. Great heroine, and just.... AWESOME!!!!
I was surprised that blue and sparkly could be so hot, but Jorvak is one hot alien. There were a few typos, but nothing terrible or overwhelming. The author also never gave us a good description of the characters besides blue and sparkly and exotic. I always hate that as it makes it very hard for me to visualize the characters. I would have given 5 stars if we got decent descriptions. No idea of hair or eye colors of anyone. Part or bringing a story to life in our heads is to make the characters real, but without descriptions they stay somewhat blurry despite his much I love the story itself.
I really enjoyed this one...the characters were both witty and funny in their interactions and their attraction to each other made it even better. Talia is a strong female character and she kicks ass during all the battles. I'm not usually one for continuations but I'm kinda hoping the next book is a continuation of Jorav and Talia's story cause there's so much more they have to do.
This is a well written story and new twist on sci-fi romance. It just wasn't my cuppa. The angst between the H/h in the first 75% of the book annoyed me more than intrigued me. I will preface that the author was slow building a story to 4 other books.
The heroine was a bit too man wanna be for me. Strong and independent is fine, but the whole proving myself like a man thing leaves me me a little disconnected. It was fine, with a really good start, but I lost interest for some reason. I just want feeling it between the characters.
Sometimes what you need is a good battle. The best battles pit equal combatants against one another. What if they were a male and a female that kept encountering each other. What if the bedroom was a battlefield? Go for it!
Talia and Jorav's first meeting didn't end well for either of them -- while they destroyed each others' ships, they each lost their own in the battle; now they're both disgraced commanders, stuck in a galactic backwater. When they meet again, it seems like Jorav has the upper hand -- he's taken a wounded Talia prisoner and blown up her ship. Jorav is impressed by her strategic instincts and self-confidence; and Talia is drawn to his nobility of spirit (and sparkly blue skin). But Jorav has other plans...at least until his nephew the Emperor decides to get his revenge and bonds Jorav and Talia. However, she unexpectedly survives the bonding, and with their new understanding of each other, Jorav and Talia fall hard. Soon however, they are faced with the consequences of the Emperor's nefarious plans, and must make hard choices about their future.
I must say I liked Talia. She's a very strong heroine, but she's not scarily aggressive. She never stops trying to win her face-offs with Jorav, but is sensible enough to know when she should stand down. You don't get to know Jorav really all that well -- but you know the basics. He's fundamentally a good guy (of course), who's taken unawares by his attraction to the human who always seems to have a surprise up her sleeve. Perhaps we'll learn more about him as the series unfolds.
So...this story is mostly a prequel for the remaining books in the series. It would have been nice if this first installment had more substance. It ends soon after Jorav and Talia are bonded, and you're left wondering about the reasons for the Emporer's actions. Perhaps this will be addressed in the next book.
It's not even a cliffhanger, it's stopped in the middle of the story, so it should be classified as "Part1."
I enjoyed the story at first, but the story was all over the place, it was flat, and the reader gets told about all the misdeeds over and over again of others to H and h but in a little more detail every time. For instance, Talia, or whatever her name is, hasn't had many offers for sex, then we figure out she has in a sexual harassment in the workplace kind of way, and then we learn it was by an older guy, and then we learn it was an older guy who was really ugly.
The sex was bad too, and not just that the sex scene was written badly, but the sex was bad. I don't really second this one.....
This story was a pleasant surprise. The lead characters were strong and likeable. The story had a conclusion but appears to be part of a series, I hope. World building was good and the culturally differences were just fun. The story had a more unique aspects and actual aliens that were different than humans. A few edit flaws that didn't take away from the story. I especially liked that the human female was not demeaned but written as a strong character. Highly recommend for those who love Scfi romance with interesting characters
Would a man from outer space and a woman from Earth stock make a good enemy? In this book YES!! but they also make for a great story. Seems our author decided women can up one manship male aliens the same as women can men. Will they become romantically involve or just keep trying to come out on top in all their combating fights. Both being in charge of their ships, both losing that ship to the other just makes it all the more fascinating. A must read with a cliff hanging ending. Waiting with breath abate for next installment.
I really enjoyed the warrior against warrior premise of this story!! Talia is a warrior through and through and her strength of character and drive to command is both inspiring and aggravating!! Jorav definitely has hIs work cut out trying to tame the untamable! A great beginning to a unique series!
Two warriors at first pitted against each other again and again as enemies, what will happen when they are brought together again? A great blend of humour, adventure, intrigue, and of course, love. Can't wait to see how the series continues.
I really enjoyed this sci fi romance. The hero was sexy and the heroine was a badass. I'm unsure if the story continues but if it does I'm definitely reading the next book in the series.
A match of wits an strategy between 2 opposing forces as they meet time an again from a earth woman commander an a alien male General that is literally explosive . 18+
Pretty good for a self pub. It does try for a story, there's minimal sex at the end and it doesn't impact the plot. The novella format doesn't really help, though.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series. The female Talia isn't the usual kind of lead in a romance novel. She definitely is a strong female.
9% in was the first spelling error of an extremely basic word. It went downhill from there. Telling the story from the other MCs point of view doesn't mean you repeat word for word what happened just a few pages before.
Disjointed storyline, no substance to the characters, nothing that grabbed me to read more of the series considering I had to push myself to finish the story.
