Self-Help 101 or: How to Survive a Bombardment With Minimal Injury
Book 2 in the Self-Help 101 Series Dani Finklemeier has self-published her guide to taking over the world, but she still isn’t rich. Now she’s eighteen, still babysitting for money, and looking forward to starting college in the fall. Of course, she has to survive a 4th of July outing with her family first. That’s a challenging prospect considering she has to be in close proximity with a group of cousins known as The Fallible Four. As if that weren’t enough, she also has to deal with the fallout of her parents learning more about her relationship with her boyfriend Seth than she ever wanted them to know. The good news is that, if she survives this holiday, she’ll have plenty of material for another self-help book.

Dani Finklemeier is looking forward to starting college in the fall, but first she has to survive the 4th of July with her family. Not only does she have to deal with her parents learning more about the intimate details of her relationship with Seth, she must contend with her cousins, The Fallible Four. She's stuffed in a cabin with her cousins, brother, and boyfriend. Maybe she'll find more material for another book if she makes it through with little injury.
This is book two in the fantastic and hilarious Self-Help 101 series, and I enjoyed it even more than the first. I know Dani, Seth, and her family all the better now. Each character is more solid and layered. Of course The Fallible Four as seen through Dani's eyes are a bit of a joke, but I think most people could relate to having crazy relatives doing stupid things like them. Their antics made me laugh and wonder what on Earth could go wrong! The parents, aunts, and uncles had their own drama going on too.
Good tips on how to survive various kinds of bombardments mixed in with a fun and witty story. I hope there's going to be more books in this series!

I gotta say, Ms Keltner missed a great opportunity by not calling this Self-Help 102. ;-)
I have to admit, I was concerned at first when I realized how much of the book would be about the burgeoning relationship between the 18-year narrator and her new boyfriend, but you know what? I was pleasantly surprised by how honest and earnest it felt. The awkward sex conversations with her parents, the desperate attempts to find private time to fool around - it took me back in time twenty years, and was a load of fun.
The relatives introduced in Self Help Part Deux were even more staggeringly idiotic and monstrous than those in the first book. The characters in How to Take Over the World had some redeeming qualities, and felt like they could have been real members of your family. In How to Survive a Bombardment, I cannot fathom why Dani’s parents would want to hang out with these people, except to provide awkwardly hilarious scenes for our reading enjoyment (and a brilliant, epic finale). Still, anyone in their right mind would have cut ties with these people years ago.
Except for Corey. I loved that annoying, lying little bastard.

Another fun read from L.G. Keltner. We're back with Dani as she endures more family shenanigans for the 4th of July. This time, she dragged Seth along for the fun. The poor boy! Like the previous book, this was a fun and light hearted read. The tips to surviving a bombardment were cute and relevant to the scene. I have to admit, some of the quirkiness the first book had was lost in this one. Not sure if it's because it's book 2 so the novelty wasn't as fresh or something else. I still enjoyed it and got a few chuckles out of it.
