The Locklaine Boys #2

Opposites Attract

Rate this book
Delilah Northcutt has been described as weird, nerdy. But her favorite term is quirky. The eccentric flower shop owner definitely marches to the beat of her own drum. On the rebound from a cheating ex, she’s not looking to open her heart to someone else any time soon. On a whim, her best friend convinces her that one night with a stranger she’ll never see again is just what she needs to pull herself out of the funk she’s been living in.

Overly serious, workaholic Richard Locklaine was always described as the twin determined to do the right thing. Even if it was at the cost of his own well-being. But after years in a loveless, manipulative marriage, he’s finally free and ready to build a life of his choosing. And nowhere in that life is there room for another woman—unless it’s for just one night, of course.

They are complete opposites in every single way. But for some reason, fate has decided to force the two of them together. Despite the chemistry, they’re determined to fight the attraction growing between them. Besides, what could a florist with horrible taste in music and an attorney from Connecticut ever really have in common? Only one thing is certain. When they finally come together, it’s going to be epic.

***This is Book 2 in the Locklaine Boys series, a spin-off of Love Hate relationship. They are interconnected standalones.***

You know what I always say, a man wants a lady in the street and a freak in the sheets… It’s like what they say about mullets, only way better.”

So here's the deal; In the last sixish months I've read at least four but probably closer to six Jessica Prince books (thank you, Kindle Unlimited). In scientific terms, that's a boatload. Want to know what my research has found? They all rock somthing fierce!

I bring this up because I tend to slack on writing reviews for non-arc reads. Don't judge! That just means my slackeresque characteristics come into their own and roam free when I don't have to write a review. And I'm OK with that.

I digress

I'll just say that Richard and Delilah were fabulous together. Humor, heat and good writing will always win me over. Nerdy Delilah was a welcome match for the jaded and newly single Rich, just as I suspected.

Bottom line: this author rocks. Good stuff, my friends.

So, one a scale of one to ten, how creepy would it be to propose to Jessica Prince based off this awesome AF book?

Anything less than a five and I'm going for it. Because HOLY SHIT, did I love Opposites Attract.

Seriously, I don't think this book could have been more perfect for me. It had all the things and all the feels that make me love reading, and left me feeling practically giddy. And also, desperate for more, more, more from this author. (Truth time: I stopped about 15% into this book to grab book one, Fire & Ice, and the book this series was spun-off from, Love Hate Relationship. Neither are required reading—clearly, I followed along just fine—but I just knew, even that early into this book, that I'd be wanting to read them. And I was right. Three cheers for me!)

Anyway, like I was saying, this book was PERFECT. I have zero complaints. Let's see, shall we?!

It was sexy. Mmm, Richard has a dirty mouth and a good, kind heart, and I'm all about that.

It was funny. Devon was the highlight, with Collin a close second, which means I am going to fall over myself to get my hands on their book when it comes out. But Delilah and Richard were funny, too. And Navie and Pepper. Pretty much all the secondary characters, with their crazy and their banter, kept me laughing and smiling.

It was quirky and adorable. Just. Like. Delilah. Seriously, I was sold on this book's blurb when it promised me a geeky heroine and Ms. Prince absolutely delivered on that.

It was emotional. It was never, ever over the top. It was easy to read because the relationship felt authentic, and their problems came across as real. The chemistry was there. And they—Delilah—recognized where they fell short, so I didn't need to get grumpy about the characters being oblivious or obtuse.

And finally, it ended so, so good. Perfect. I know, I need another adjective, but perfect just describes this book, and its ending...perfectly.

So, now do you see why I wanna keep Jessica Prince all to myself?! This is the third book of hers I've read (Sweet Sunshine and Hustler, co-written with the hilarious Meghan Quinn, being one and two) and already she's a favorite. And hopefully soon, mine. Not creepy at all, right?! ~ Beth, 5 Cutie stars

~~~
Jessica Prince had me at the dedication in this book.
Seriously. That's how good this book was. I hadn't even gotten to the actual book and I was like, “Yes. I love it already.”
And then! It got better. Because Ms. Prince writes these characters that are genuine and quirky and sexy as hell. It’s impossible to not fall immediately into their stories, fully invested even if—full disclosure—you don’t have the complete background story because you came into this series on the second book. Rest assured, missing out on that first book did not impact my enjoyment of the second at all. However, I’m going to need to carve out time for that first book (Fire & Ice) as soon as possible because…well, this book was positively delicious and I am starving for more.
Delicious?
Yes. Delicious. From the delightfully quirky and adorable Delilah to the scorchingly hot, filthy mouthed Richard, this book was a delicious sweet treat. It manages to be equal parts hilarious, emotional, and damn sexy without ever tipping the scales too far in any direction. It’s perfectly balanced and perfectly wonderful.
The secondary character game is strong here as well. I adored Delilah’s friendship with Devon (and Devon as a person—I cannot WAIT for her story!). I loved all the interactions amongst friends and family members, ranging from amusing to outrageously hysterical and always entertaining. This book is the full package.
Sweet Zeus’ nipples y’all—read this book! It’s funny. It’s sweet. It filled my tummy with butterflies and left my heart so happy. It’s smart and swoony and I literally could go on with these flattering words for days, but you should be reading this book already. So get to it! ~ Shelly, 5 stars
I received an ARC of this book through Love Affair With Fiction for an honest review.
My ladies, you will love this!
One night stand. Two neighbours. A dog called Slim Shady?!
It's a winning combo!
I had fun reading this. Like, really enjoyed myself.
I love when a rom com leaves me blushing and smiling at the same time. After reading few really dark and gritty books in the past few days, I really needed this.
Opposites Attract by Jessica Prince is a new novel in The Locklaine Boys series, and don't worry, you can totally read it as a standalone.
I haven't read the first book in the series, but now, I kinda wish I did. I will have to rectify that.
Delilah is an eccentric, sassy, single flower shop owner, and Richard is a newly divorced, sexy, hot shot lawyer. I have to say, I am totally digging him :)
As the title says, they are complete opposites. What could they possibly have in common?
After spending a night between the sheets, Richard wakes up alone.
He has no idea where she is or what's her name.
Three months pass, and they both can't seem to forget about each other... but, here's the twist!
Richard is actually Delilah's new neighbour.
I won't reveal anything else, cause' this is supposed to be spoiler free.
I loved the characters and their dialogue. They were easy to connect to, loveable and entertaining.
If you are in the mood for some lighthearted, cute and dirty talking romantic comedy, grab this one.
I highly recommend it!
Spoilers ahead,3.5*
On the rebound from her cheating ex her best friend convinces Delilah to have a ONS. She meets Richard and they have a great night together and then Delilah leaves. Life goes on and though she can't stop thinking about that night with no names being exchanged that was the end of that. Until her client sends her fiance into Delilah's floral shop on wedding business and in walks her ONS. What ensues is a case of mistaken Identity, loud music that leads to visits from the neighbors and great humor from a best friend without a filter.
After the drama with his ex Richard was happy to be moving on with his life, after his ONS he can't stop thinking about the woman in the red dress who disappeared on him. When he meets his quirky neighbor the dreams start with the two women. Pretty soon Richard gets the surprise of his life as the two women he can't stop thinking about turn out to be one. With a loud mouthed roommate as his support, a cousin as a roommate and a dog that can't seem to be house trained Richard's well organized life just got upended!
This was pretty good, I enjoyed it and the secondary characters were the icing on the cake. There were the usual elements of this author's writing with the bossy Alpha male, the humor, the sexy times,the dirty talk and the slightly insecure fmc. Thankfully Richard wasn't a manwhore.
I loved that he called her cutie it definitely worked for me.
H attempted to have sex with OW to get his ONS out of his head, this was more funny than anything else.
Esta autora realmente me fisgou com as histórias criadas. Comecei um livro por acaso e fiquei curiosa sobre os outros personagens e fui lendo um por um.
Eu me diverti muito com a leitura e a interação entre os personagens foi muito interessante.
Tudo começou com uma transa de uma só noite e com o reencontro como vizinhos de apartamento.
Amei a heroína.
Recomendo muito.
This author really hooked me up with the stories created. I started a book and I was curious about the other characters and I was reading one by one.
I had so much fun with reading and the interaction between the characters was very interesting.
It all started with a one-night stand and with the reunion as apartment neighbors.
Loved the heroine.
I highly recommend.
Richard's turn
This book is about Richard, the Locklaine who just went through a terrible marriage and an even worse divorce. He is off commitment and is only looking for attachment-free Finn. But he is having trouble forgetting his one night stand that left him in the middle of the night never leaving her name or number. Little does he know, but she is living next door to his new apartment. Unfortunately he doesn't recognize her because she has pulled a Clark Kent and instead of looking like a contact lens wearing hottie in a red dress she looks like a cute nerd in glasses.
4.5 Stars!
Delilah Northcutt meet the Locklaine boys! This is book 2 of the Locklaine Boys series; it’s a standalone, although, we continue to get glimpses of the whole gang. Delilah is your quirky neighbor. She’s a snorter, eccentric, and wears thick glasses, but somehow she’s got Mr. Hot Richard Locklaine, wrapped around her fingers. After a one night stand, Richard and Delilah can’t seem to forget each other and now they find themselves neighbors. They are complete opposites, but opposites attract right? Now, can Delilah and Richard find common ground to make their chemistry bloom into something more? Umm…I’m thinking so =).
“I want a man that loves me so much he wants the entire world to know.”
Whoop, whoop! This book celebrates all the everyday women out there. The women who are not model perfect, but real and maybe a little quirky and crazy, but still beautiful inside and out. Delilah is my girl! She’s a bit gun shy with relationships, but she’s been burned in the past. I like that she has moments of boldness and moments of weakness. It just makes her character relatable and realistic. She made Richard work to win her over and that is freaking awesome. Men don’t do enough wooing these days. The chase is half the fun!
Then there is Richard. I’ll be honest…he confused me. He just finalized his divorced and it makes sense for him to be all skittish about relationships, but dragging Delilah back to bed when she’s trying to leave seemed a bit extreme for their level of relationship. Then he tries to act all confused about their relationship and says he just wants to have fun. So I’m feeling Delilah’s confusion and frustration. What the heck! But let me tell you, he makes up for all his faults at the end when he makes his best man speech. Oh, wow…now that’s the way to win a girl. It was so damn sweet.
“You take each day as it comes, and if there ever comes a time when you’re unsure of where it is your supposed to be going, all you have to do is follow her lead.”
See… so sweet and beautiful! It makes me so hopeful and giddy just thinking about their future.
“Oh the possibilities.”
Happy reading!
4.0 "My Delilah" Stars!!!
Oh sweet fudgecicles!!!
Opposites Attract by Jessica Prince is one of the cutest story I had the pleasure of reading. The romance and comedy combined together had me captured since the very beginning until the end. It's like watching a movie so sweet you don't want to blink even once afraid to miss a single scene. That and having glimpses of other Locklaine guys and I was hoot!!! *Fanning
So, all of these started as best-friends' goal to be sinfully sexy in an adorable quirky way" to find a well-hung man to clean Delilah's pipes and forget an ex through meaningless hours and hours of orgasms.
Now go figure...
A nerdy, witty, sassy and adorable yet quirky woman and a workaholic,mid-thirties divorcee who has the ability to give multiple orgasms on top of all orgasms..Plus he's a SPOONER too!! So HEART HAZARD but UNDENIABLY EXPLOSIVE TOGETHER!!!!
"That man had a gift for dirty talk, it was like he'd majored in it or something, made it his life's mission to be so good at it he could get a woman with just his words."
Seriously,Richard and Delilah's story is fun to read. These characters are just so adorable I wanna hug them so damn tight and kiss them all the way. Their banters is laugh out loud funny, cute and swoon worthy. That and their hot scenes and you'll probably end up blushing all the way through even after you finish reading the book. It is lighthearted though but and enjoyable read. Made no mistake however because there are actually heart gripping scenes and moments On top of hilarious banters and fun scenes and dirty talk.
"FUCK DELILAH.
I went crazy thinking about you after that night."
My entire body shivered as his warm breath washed over my skin.
I felt his lips at my collarbone
just before his tongue peeked out and tasted my skin,
causing me to moan with pleasure.
So if you're looking for a lighthearted, sweet and fun romcom read, that will leave you smiling and day dreaming with hot flashes... *wink
then Opposites Attract is for you.
3.5 WARM STARS
In this book the author gives us Delilah (Del) Northcutt, who has been described as nerdy and quirky, in the re-bound from a cheating ex her best-friends persuades her to have a night out on the town, and have a hot one-night stand. Richard Locklaine has just come out of a long-term marriage from hell, and has no desire to ever be shackled again, fun he can do anything more – nope. What he doesn’t expect is Delilah.
There is a Superman/Clark Kent undertone to the first bit of this story, since Richard
The chemistry between the two is certainly hot and their interactions fun and sweet. I really liked Delilah’s brother and dad, and I wish we had seen more of them. I’m hoping there is a book where her brother takes centre stage, and I get to see more of him in big brother mode (he is funny).
I wish Richard had stopped referring to Delilah as ‘cutie’ it just didn’t work within the contours of this book and the characters. I know in the author's other books like ‘Sweet Sunshine’ the hero uses words like ‘sunshine’ when referring to the heroine and it works well their but here not so much. Also, at times Richard acting more like a teen than a grown man, luckily it didn’t get so bad that I wanted to wring his neck.
There were some good moments of humour in this, and I loved Devon (Delilah’s best-friend) as a secondary character – she is fabulously unique, and seeing her in this had me leaping to read her book once I had finished.
The size of the reads in this series mean overall, they are fun little reads, and if you enjoy them, like me you’ll end up finishing before you realise it. So far, each book I’ve read has had a good level of steam.
5 One Night of Passion Leads to a Lifetime of Love Stars!!!
To say that I was excited when I heard we were getting Richard's book would be putting it mildly. I'm a huge fan of Ms. Prince and of this series. Delilah and Richard truly are opposites and reading this book, watching their relationship build, especially after how they met, made me so very happy!
Delilah is trying to get over her cheating SOB fiancé and what better way to do this than to let your crazy BFF convince you to wear this daringly sexy red dress and go out to find a man? Little does she know when she and Richard meet he's got some thoughts of his own...
Talk about a wild night with a man that's all that and a bag of chips!!! Problem is, Delilah wants only one night never thinking that this hot and dirty night would still be lingering in her head several months later! She's not the only one remembering that particular night either. Richard just can't seem to get her out of his mind. Even worse is when he's consistently being woken up early in the morning by his new next door neighbors which just puts him in a worse mood than he already is!
I loved it the first time these two see each other again after that unforgettable night... Richard is thrilled, she's not because she thinks he's his twin brother picking up the bouquet for Navie his fiancé! Talk about a miscommunication!!! I just sat back watched it all unfold because I just knew that the fun was just beginning!!! Especially when Richard figures out who she is at the most in opportune time too. Their conversation afterward didn't go exactly the way Del would have liked especially when Richard admits to remembering her...
How you taste and sound when you kissed me is fucking burned into my goddamned brain."
Needless to say, Del tries to get around explaining the situation to him, but he just can't get over that the red-hot vixen that was in his bed is the same girl he's starting fall for until he gets up close and personal with her....
This of course is when the real fireworks begin and these two together are on fire!!! These two are so meant for each other and I just wanted them to get beyond all the other stuff. But that wouldn't have been as much fun as I had reading everything Richard does to convince Delilah they can be more than friends, because that's what she thinks they should be. I tell you what, how she resisted him I have no idea and he was bound and determined to not make it easy for her. One particular scene had me cracking up....
My panties just about melted reading that the first time as I sit her fanning myself while writing this review as I re-read that scene! Another reason I love this series so much is how we get to see all my favorites, Griffin and Pepper and obviously Navie and Rowan. Having these side characters is so fun in these books especially when they're all together in one room together which neither Delilah or her besite Devon have experienced. I literally laughed out loud when Devon finds out about all of them....
"Sweet Zeus's nipples, how many of you are there?!" she shouted, her wide-eyed gaze bouncing between all the Locklaines."
As the story moves along Richard and Delilah face their share of issues, because there's no clarity as to what they are and what they might be in the future. Especially given Richard's stance on relationships, which of course he may have neglected to let her in on...
And not letting her in on this, leads me to having a broken heart for Delilah. It's clear to me that there's so much more than just casual dating and lots and lots of burn the sheets up sex. But can these two get beyond their pasts and see what's right in front of them? I'm certainly not telling you. You need to 1-click this book and settle in for a wild ride of a book!!!
I am quickly becoming a huge fan of the romantic comedy genre. They are fun to read and leave you with a happy overall feeling. That is exactly what Opposites Attract by Jessica Prince was to me. I loved the story, the characters, the banter and all the shenanigans. I just kept laughing out loud.
In Opposites Attract, which is Book 2 in The Locklaine Boys series, a spin-off to Love Hate Relationship, which I also loved, we get Richard’s story. Richard, who is a very straight and narrow and no nonsense type of man. It’s not that he has no time for fun, he is just too busy being mature and adulting to break down and let loose. After getting out of a very bad marriage, one-night stands are all he can manage right now.
Delilah Northcutt on the other hand has always felt a bit out of place. A bit weird and nerdy, she likes to think of herself as quirky. Herself, just coming out of a bad long-term relationship, her best friend, Devon, convinces her a night out and a hot one-night stand is just what she needs to forget what’s his face. And what a night it is! Totally out of character, she gives in and has the night of her life. Not expecting to ever see that man again.
And so the shenanigans begin. Both Richard and Delilah, with recent broken hearts and disillusioned with love, are not ready or even looking for a relationship, but they are having way too much fun together. And though both know what they have is too new to be defined, they are both so much in their own heads, they get themselves and each other all twisted up. There is so much push and pull, but the fun kind that will have the reader laughing out loud over and over again.
And the banter between them is hilarious. Richard kept Delilah on her toes and when he finally pushed her too far, feisty Delilah was amazing, though still adorable. The same can be said between the secondary characters, the friends and family. They were hilarious together and made the story just that much more enjoyable. We get to see some old favorites and meet new characters. The scene at the strip bar had me in stitches.
Quick side note, this is a standalone, you do not need to read any of the other books to read this one. They are great books, so you may want to read them anyway, but this can be read on its own. The author gives you all the information you need to not feel lost or as if you are missing part of the story.
I loved this story, loved everything about it. Even when you wanted to strangle one of them, you just rooted for them and wanted to keep reading. This was a great, light read, that I would easily recommend.
I do also have to take a moment and just say, Jessica Prince knows how to give us hot-alpha males. I mean each and every Locklaine man is, in their own way, perfect. Okay, maybe not perfect, but so swoon-worthy. And she has given us four of them. Four!
I give Opposites Attract by Jessica Prince 4.5 stars!
Happy reading!
This book was a breath of fresh air! Anyone that knows me, knows I love a good romantic comedy! Any this one delivers! I love love love Jessica Prince and I feel like I could never be disappointed by one of her books.
I feel like I've read a lot of books with florists recently! We have Delilah, who is now running her family's flower shop. Her parents retired and she loves her job. At the beginning of the book, she had recently broken up with her fiance after finding out he'd been sleeping around pretty much their entire relationship. And we have Richard...he is a partner in a law firm and pretty much has everything going for him in the looks department. However, his ex-wife almost destroyed his relationship with brother and definitely destroyed his trust in women.
While Delilah is out with her best friend one night, she encourages her to have a one night stand to clear out the cobwebs of her old love. And who does she hook up with? Richard! But she leaves before the morning! Time goes by...and...well, I won't spoil how they meet up again, but it is hilarious!
I loved their chemistry! Their banter was OFF THE CHARTS funny. I was laughing out loud at several parts of the story. It was just perfect. This author clearly knows how to work her banter right to my heart. And the heat level was perfect. Sizzling, but not over the top for the characters given their personalities!
I would give this book 4.25 stars! High recommend for those that love romantic comedies. You will LOVE it! Great lighthearted read!
I received an ARC for an honest review.
I really loved this story, and the humorous aspects added to my enjoyment. Delilah who is an eccentric flower show owner, and Richard who is jaded after his recent divorce, meet on a one night stand. After a hot and steamy night, he wakes up alone. Neither of them can get the other out of their heads, until they meet again in the most unexpected way.
This is a fun and entertaining read, and I highly recommend reading this authors work. Looking forward to reading the next novella in this series. Congratulations on a fantastic book Jessica!
Richard Locklaine is finally out of the marriage from hell and not looking to ever get tied down again but deciding he needs to let out some steam he has a one night stand with a woman he can't stop thinking about.
Delilah Northcutt needs to get back in the game after a cheating ex broke her heart. Having a one night stand is not what she does but she ends up spending the night with a man she can't forget. Finding out he is her new neighbor who her roommate has been fighting with is not how she expected to see him again. Richard makes his interest known and Delilah gives them a chance but they may find that they are not on the same page with where their future may lead.
This was wonderful. I thought Delilah was a hoot and Richard is a bit of a curmudgeon but he grows on you. You get where he is as his past gets revealed and Delilah is completely opposite of Richard but in a very good way. Great story full of laugh out loud moments.
If you are needing a quirky romance story to read filled with laughs , then Jessica Prince's Book #2 in the Locklaine Boys series - Opposites Attract is the read for you . As someone who has been called quirky and wears glasses and loves a variety of music including Taylor Swift , I felt right at home with the main female lead - Delilah. The novel starts off with Delilah finding out who boyfriend is cheating on her and so with her best friend Devon dress up to the nines and go clubbing. It is here that Delilah ends up meeting Richard and having the night of her life with an amazing one-night stand. The thing is they didn't get each other's names - this was purely meant to be a one night stand with no strings attached. A few weeks later , we discover that neither has been able to stop thinking about their amazing one-night stand. What happens from then is that the pair happen to be closer to one another than either realised and a lot of mistaken identity - this part reminded me of the movie "The Wedding Planner" when JLO discovers that the guy she likes was in fact the groom aka Matthew McConaughey and then it's let the games begin type of fun as the pair start a one step forward , two steps back type friendship. There is a lot of back and forth going on with Delilah and Richard, but eventually can it prove that opposites truly do attract one another ? One of my favourite parts of this book was actually the side character of Devon - Delilah's best friend as she was outspoken, blunt and plain hilarious and their fun BJ parties and nope, it's not what you think. The other thing I loved with Book #2 was that they brought forward the characters that we met in Fire and Ice. Due to loving this book as I started Fire and Ice , I found I couldn't finish it but loving Book #2 has made decide to go back and give it another try .
Oh good lord I think I'm in love with Jessica Prince.
This book was absolutely fucking awesome. A little bit a of sweet mixed in with some piss your pants moments.
Throw in a man that won't take no and bam you have yourself a winner in my eyes.
I am actually sad that I read this already and have to wait for the next book. I'm feeling a little like an addict that needs her next fix immediately.
Fav fav line "Friend's don't give friends erections!" and "King Kong ain't got shit on me!." These two lines killed me. Dead I tell you dead.
Five Fantastic Stars for this one.
These books not only have a great story but also a great cast of characters. This is a romantic comedy with less sexy times than the first but the characters and lol moments mean you don't miss it much. Continued characters, HEA with epilogue. 5 stars if the books were just longer. Recommend reading!
Please no more "cutie".. it's so bloody annoying. It's like they're in highschool... actually don't think I've read a HS book where they referred to the h as "cutie"... :/ But overall it was a good book. 2.5
I love these books! I love their wit, their angst, and the heroines who don't take any shit.
The only reason I gave 4 stars to this one as opposed to 5 is because the ending left me unfulfilled. It just seemed too fast and too easy. The other books I'd read (Rowan and Griffin) were better when it came to the ending.
4.5 Stars - Jessica Prince delivers another smart, sexy, and totally sassy RomCom with Opposites Attract. From their smoking hot first night to the hilariously awkward subsequent encounters, Delilah and Richard’s story is utterly amusing and so full of feels. I absolutely adored the chemistry between these two. They were such an unlikely duo and yet somehow Jessica Prince made them sizzle. Their story was wrought with witty banter, blush-inducing encounters, and a delicious tension that could not be ignored. Jessica Prince’s gift for creating characters with unique and unforgettable personalities, as well as her vibrant descriptive imagery and socially relevant humor, makes this author a true gem. Opposites Attract absolutely sparkles, captivating me from the first page to the last with each heartfelt emotion and laugh out loud exploit as I fell head over heels for Richard and Delilah.
Delilah was such a fantastic character to unravel. She’s incredibly awkward, definitely quirky, and sometimes adorably clueless, but she is also smart, kind, successful, and feisty – a combination that had me invested in her from page one. I loved her relationship with her best friend Devon. Their brutal honesty and unconditional love had me grinning, as I relished their easy friendship and misguided adventures. I really enjoyed Delilah’s growth over the course of the story. Her time with Richard seemed to awaken a sense of self-worth and confidence that only made this great character that much more lovable. Meanwhile, I certainly didn’t mind watching as Richard faltered while Delilah broke down his walls. As the story progressed, Richard’s innate alpha-sexiness made way for a surprisingly sweet and thoughtful side that made me melt and left me rooting for Delilah and Richard’s happily ever after.
I absolutely love Jessica Prince’s secondary characters. Their vibrant personalities and significance to the story ensure they are just as captivating as the main characters. Not only does Opposites Attract bring together all of the delightfully delicious Locklaine men, but Jessica Prince creates a female power squad with Navie, Pepper, Delilah, and Devon that was absolutely epic. I can’t wait to get my hands on Devon’s story next! I would have liked just a bit more emotional development in terms of Delilah and Richard’s relationship. Their shared moment of honesty where they open up about the past and make their previous heartbreaks known was brief and not as substantial as I felt was necessary to move their relationship forward. However, Jessica Prince worked her magic, making me feel this story all the way through. Richard and Delilah’s journey had me laughing, cursing, and swooning, completely caught up in the fantastic dynamic between this couple. If you like books you can laugh, live, and love your way through then Opposites Attract is definitely worth reading.
After the finalization of his divorce, Richard Locklaine has absolutely no plans to enter into anything like that kind of relationship again. As was revealed in the book that the Locklaine Boys series is spun off from, Love Hate Relationship, his marriage was a nightmare, and now that he's free from it, that's exactly how he intends to live ... free.
That doesn't stop him from becoming entranced by a beauty in a red dress that he encounters and shares a torrid night of passion with. For weeks afterwards she's all he can think of, but thinking about her is all he can do because, that one night, he never even got her name.
Delilah just wanted a night of fun, well ... more to the point, her BFF Devon wanted her to have a night of fun and Delilah eventually capitulated. Being on the rebound and a few drinks in, she found the courage to approach the devilishly handsome man who, sober, she would have never dared approach.
After pining after her missed connection for weeks, constantly flashing back to their shared night of bliss, you could well imagine that when she finally does cross paths with him again, she's more than a little put out when he doesn't even recognize her.
Opposites Attract by Jessica Prince would have to be, far and away, one of the funnest books I've read this year.
I phrased it that way on purpose. Its not simply that there are funny episodes within these pages, though those are scattered liberally throughout. More than that though, the whole story exudes a joy and a zest for life that was quite simply a treasure to behold.
Told from dual points of view and filled with misunderstandings and confusion, missed opportunities and awkward moments by the score, not to mention a fair share of angst, this tale virtually leaped off the page as Richard and Delilah danced through the pages taking the proverbial one step forward and two steps back.
Written as a standalone, as are all of the books in this series and the one it's spun off from (The Colors Series) those who've followed the series would however get a special treat as characters from previous novels make appearances and even get to share a special occasion woven seamlessly into the narrative.
Truly a special treat
Witty contemporary RomCom which will have you chuckling along with these two crazy but quirky characters
Opposites Attract is a witty contemporary romantic comedy which will have you chuckling along with these two crazy but quirky opposites attract characters as they try to figure out all the wonderful things that come with attraction and romance after a one night stand turns into something so much more. I have no doubt this book will leave you with a smile on your face and is a perfect feel-good romance.
The two characters, Richard and Delilah, have a sizzling chemistry after hooking up as strangers for a one night stand. However, that initial attraction continues to build for both, despite going separate ways and time passing, until circumstances thrust them back into each others life in a new way. Both characters are strong and independent but also have flaws, adding a realistic connection between the characters and readers. The sub-characters in this book are quirky, especially all the feisty and quirky women, really play a role, Devon in particular, in helping shape these two characters. The dual alternating points of views help add a complexity to the two main characters and their stories.
The book is very well written with a great flow and witty undertone. For me, this book was the perfect blend of romance and comedy, with plenty of steamy scenes to get you hot under the collar, without there being too much emphasis on either element (I find romantic comedies hit and miss if there is too much emphasis on a comedic element). Although this book is part of a series, do not be put off as this can be read as a standalone. I personally haven’t read book one in the series and could follow along, although I can imagine for those who have read the previous book it would help enhance the story further. The epilogue rounded off the story in an appropriate style that fitted the whole book, giving a sweet HEA and setting up the next book in the series too.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to any romance fans out there.
I laughed, I cried...
And it's getting repetitive but I have to say it...another winning entry in this series of fantastic characters. My only complaint is that we don't get nearly enough of all the wonderful characters we've been introduced to this far.
This is yet another great example of an author developing her characters in such a way that the reader comes to feel like they are real people and to care for them in that way. Delilah is a wonderful character you'd want as your friend and while it takes a while to warm up to Richard you do end up rooting for him. By far Devin is one of my favorite characters I've met in a book. There was lots of literal LOLing in this book! I can't wait for her story.
3.5/5
Opposites Attract has such fun quirky characters, I absolutely adored them, especially Delilah
At her best friends encouragement to erase the memory of her cheating ex, Delilah embarks on a hot and steamy night with a stranger. Except fate has other plans in store for her; unable to forget the incredible night she spent with a stranger, Delilah is more than a little shocked when said stranger walks into her flower shop to collect the flowers for a wedding. Unfortunately, making the assumption the man of her fantasies is nothing more than a cheating scumbag like her ex.
Richard hasn't been able to wipe the memory of Delilah from his imagination, neither has he been able to connect with anyone else since his night with her. Subconsciously he knows there is something special between them, unfortunately, his horrible former relationship has completely clouded his perception. Stunned to find Delilah is not only the florist for his twin brother's wedding but also his new next door neighbor. You really can't escape fate. Richard unleashes his inner alpha, claiming Delilah in what he considers a friends with benefits scenario; yet his actions speak louder than his thoughts will allow him to admit.
The peripheral characters are something else and I loved how they all blended together to help and support each other, folding Delilah and her best friend, Devon, into their group.
There are a lot of references to previous incidents that have shaped both Richard and his twin, Rowan, but without the in-depth detail. I couldn't help but wonder what had happened and coming up with the worse possible scenario. I really, really want to know more. As I haven't read the first book in the series, I am wondering if the details are in there???? It is now added to my wish-list.
Opposites Attract is a fun fast paced romance with plenty of heat and amazing banter
I cannot wait to see what is in store for Devon xxx
As the second book in Ms. Prince's Locklaine Boys series, you don't need to have read the first to enjoy the characters. Ms. Prince does an admirable job of introducing you to the series without bogging the reader down with information overload.
This book centers around Delilah and Richard. When the two meet, they have both just gotten out of a bad relationship. Delilah's best friend and roommate, Devon, has convinced her that the best way to enjoy her newly single status is to have a great one night stand. And Richard certainly delivers on that!
Fast forward three months, and neither have been able to forget the other. When fate throws them together again, the sparks fly.
Delilah is a quirky character while Richard is more uptight, though that may be just the nature of his job as an attorney. Ms. Prince does an excellent job of navigating their relationship and when there is the inevitable hiccup, I was impressed that Delilah and Richard handled it with maturity. I liked that Delilah had a good friend in Devon, even if I wasn't particularly fond of her as a character. I found her personality a little too grating. Delilah's family was also delightful and I wish we spent a little more time with them.
I have few complaints about this and one is definitely nitpicky. Ms. Prince's understanding of how a law firm works was not at all on target, especially if Richard is a partner. As I mentioned above, I found Devon a grating character. Similarly, I didn't love some of Delilah's quirks, most especially her invoking of Buddha - if she had been Buddhist I'd have had not problem with it. I would have liked to have a bit more insight into Richard.
These are small complaints overall and this is a fun read and a nice romantic comedy. I'm looking forward to reading future books by Ms. Prince.
NB: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. This has not biased my review.
When Delilah’s best friend convinces her that she needs to have a one night stand, Delilah is a little reluctant at first, until she sees him. After a night of passion like she has never known before, she sneaks out not even knowing his name and now three months later regrets it. An unexpected visit at the flower shop from her one night stand sends her into shock when she finds out that he is the fiancé of the bride she is working for but also he doesn’t recognize her from their night together.
For Richard it’s been a few hectic moths, now with his divorce finalized he can move on with his life. Moving into a new apartment is what he needs but moving next to neighbours from hell who like to blast Eminem in the early morning hours is starting to mess with him, but also his reoccurring dreams about his one night stand a few months back is leaving him unsettled. When Richard agrees to help his twin brother’s fiancé pickup flowers from the florist, he never expected to meet the sweet and nerdy Delilah.
When Delilah finds out that Richard is her new neighbor she makes her best friend promise that she will not tell him that he is her one night stand. When the two bond and become friends it’s Richard to who comes to the aid of Delilah when her ex shows up, a few hot steamy kisses is all it takes for Richard to realize where he know Delilah from.
Opposites Attract is a romantic comedy that you will not be able to put down. Jessica Prince does an amazing job at making her readers fall in love with her characters. The sizzling hot chemistry between Delilah and Richard is off the charts and the hilarious and embarrassing things that happen to Delilah are perfect. I love this series and I cannot wait for more. Opposites Attract is a must read!
