Three Block War: Whatever it Takes

Rate this book
Three Block Whatever it Takes chronicles the combat exploits of 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1/4, during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and 2004 during OIF II. Excerpted from the author’s full-length Three Block U.S. Marines in Iraq, Whatever it Takes begins with 1/4’s mechanized assault to Baghdad as part of Regimental Combat Team 1. After shooting its way through Nasiriyah’s deadly ‘Ambush Alley,’ One-Four faced asymmetric ambushes in south-central Iraq. After closing on Baghdad a battle at al-Kut emerged in early April; where the battalion had to clear a minefield before clashing with elements of the Republican Guard’s Baghdad Division.
During 1/4’s second tour in Iraq as the Battalion Landing Team for 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the battalion lived up to its motto, ‘Whatever it Takes,’ to the fullest. During operations in Najaf, 1/4 battled the Mehdi Army from house-to-house in the holy city; and inside Wadi al-Salam, the world’s largest graveyard. When the enemy fell-back to Najaf’s Old City, One-four’s Alpha Company dealt the final blow inside the Imam Ali Shrine complex.
