This is the first time I have read any of this authors work, and it will not be the last. This is the story of Peter, who is home from the military to visit his family, when he meets Christina, who is his sister’s best friend.
This is a short read, which to be honest, I wished had been longer, and the storyline is interesting and intriguing. I recommend this author’s work to all lovers of military romances.

An ARC of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Jody Pardo and Be My Book Boyfriend for the opportunity.
First of all I would like to mention how much I enjoyed this author's voice. Right from the start I found myself sinking into the cadence and flow of her writing style and I noticed several times throughout where I thought a particular internal thought was quite poignant simply because of the way it was written.
I thought the story was good overall and I liked Peter. Once he and Christina were together as a couple I thought they worked well but the lead up was a little odd. There was little to no descriptive indication that they were attracted to each other. Peter even calls her 'Shorty' to start off with, which felt to me like he was lumping her in with 'My sister' (sorry, but this particular reference was used so often in the first half of the book to refer to Beth, I actually forgot what her name was) and sister status. I even dismissed her as the love interest at first because there were literally NO bells being rung. Peter has no thoughts about Christina's attractiveness or that he might even be interested, or welcome the advances she makes towards him on a later night out. He just takes what he's offered, when there's no reason for it. That said, I enjoyed the romantic times, particularly his and Christina's foreplay conversations.
As for the rest of Peter's story, while I did find it a little disjointed, with no rhyme or reason to the flashbacks, nightmares or eventual conclusion, his attempts to readjust to civilian life were really well done and an interesting insight into the life of a returning soldier.
So, overall I enjoyed it, loved the writing style, but would have appreciated a little more attention to detail and thought put in to the cohesiveness of the story as a whole. A good read.

A quick read, this book left me with lots of unanswered questions. I loved the premise behind the story, and the author made sure to set the scene really well, her writing is easy to read and captivating. I just felt that we didn’t really get to know enough about the characters. There were so many little snippets of information about Peter’s life in the Army which easily explained some of his behaviours, and your heart goes out to him especially the scene at the end of the book, that is definitely something that can never be unseen.

The relationship between Peter and Christina was a little too predictable, as sweet and beautiful as some of their interactions were, things happened rather quickly and out of character. We learn very little about Christina other than her friendship with Peter’s sister and that she can cook!

Overall this was an easy read and I would read more from this series, if for nothing more than to answer my curiosity about this couple.

I enjoyed Peter and Christina's story. Peter is home on leave from serving in the military, and meets his sister Beth's friend Christina. They seem to hit it off as friends until Christina takes it a step further. Peter likes her, but is afraid to hurt her, as he deals with flashbacks and nightmares from the war. Christina wants to take a chance with Peter, but is Peter willing to risk a chance of hurting her? Could Christina be just what Peter needs? I always enjoy Jody Pardo's books and look forward to what's next from her.

This story is the perfect read for anyone who loves military books. I loved the interactions with these characters. Peter is unsure about his future in the Army. Meeting Christina makes Peter question his time in the Army even more then before. But in the end love rules all. This is a great story and I loved the flow of the book and how the characters just seemed to really fit well with each other.

Peter has come home to visit his family. It has a been a very long time and he isn't sure if he is staying or going back. He has a month to decide.
Beyond the Ghosts is a very good short story. I loved Peter and his family. The characters are amazing, the storyline is interesting and I wanted more. It stopped abruptly and I could have read for hours longer.
If you like military romance you will love this.

This book will make you laugh, cry and fall in love. It shows how one person's soul can be another's saving grace. It shows the real life struggle that some of our military deal with everyday.
