MacArthur Bible Studies

Daniel and Esther: Israel in Exile

Rate this book
Many of God's people through the ages have been called to endure times of hardship, loneliness, and suffering. Some, such as Daniel and Esther, were even members of a race carried away to a foreign land that had never heard of the God of Israel. Their lives were not easy, but even in the midst of trials, these men and women discovered that God was with them—and that He was actively leading the events in their lives.

In this study, pastor John MacArthur will guide you through an in-depth look at the historical period of Israel's exile, beginning with the prophet Daniel being carried off to Babylon, continuing through the rise of the Persian Empire, and concluding with Esther's reign as queen.

Studies include close-up examinations of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, Esther, Haman, and others, as well as careful considerations of doctrinal themes such as "Standing Boldly for God" and "God's Sovereignty Over the Future."

Enjoyed the study. Some of the questions at the end of the chapters were repetitive. Also, “if you were ___ how would you react?” questions were not my fave because it’s an entirely different time period. As a woman in that time period, I wouldn’t have even been in some of the situation the men were in. So, I didn’t find those type of questions helpful. Commentary was helpful and giving context about the culture was very helpful, too.

A good way to study the Bible. Daniel has so much to tell us about the past and the future. This book helps you look deeper at the Bible. Anything that gets a person reading scripture is a good thing.

I wish the study went through the whole books and I felt the questions were surface level at times but overall this was a good study!

This book was used as a bible study guide for my small group. The author's writing provided lots of information and thought provoking discussion for the group. As an Individual read, I found it very insightful and provided personal reflection time.

A great recommendation for anyone looking for a little more insight into these books of the bible. Would also make a great resource for a confirmation group,

Definitely will be a reread for myself.

The questions are kind of basic, but the explanations are alright. I'm thinking of switching to the ESV study guide series.
