La Grande Guerre, 1914-1918

Rate this book

A refreshingly unAmerican and comprehensive look at the First World War. Ferro assumes the reader has at least some exposure to political map of Europe at the beginning of the 20th century and offers little or no background for the numerous political and military leaders he mentions. However I found this to be a positive approach because, unlike a great deal of military history, the book concerns itself with causes and consequences of social, political, and economic events rather than their drama.

it's books like this that give history a reputation for being dry dull and plodding
