I hope you mean pheasant, Billy? We'd be a bit worried if you were killing the peasants.

My Review:

A Summer Romance concluded The Little Perran Romance Series with a few exciting and intriguing twists to this adorable and amusing series. Several sweet and tender budding romances sprang forth and the writing took a more sensual turn from the previous installment. The village was abuzz in preparation for their annual fete with the newcomer celebs helping them kick it up several notches from their previous events. Toss in a jealous scorned woman who was also a vindictive gossip, then add in an unstable and violent man intent on tracking down his ex and the story becomes even more compelling. And my favorite old rocker turned country gent, Billy Baxter, can always be counted on to provide comic relief. I feel like I hit the mother lode in stumbling into this series with excellent writing, an amusing and entertaining storyline, endearing characters, steamy sensuality, sweet romances, jealousy, competition, intrigue and adventure - this old cougar found Nirvana! I would love to read books like this every day.

I have read all three books in the Little Perran series and they really are wonderful. You don’t have to have read A Christmas Romance which is the first in the series BUT, I highly recommend you reading the second in the series, A Village Romance before reading this one. This is due to the story being split between both novels so if you haven’t read the other one first please do so to get full enjoyment out of these fabulous books.

The story starts to get a slightly more serious feel to it in this book. Even though there is some light relief still from the fabulous rock star come country pumpkin, Billy Baxter, there are a couple of other relationships that seem to be in a bit of jeopardy of getting their happy ever after.

We get to find out more about the characters as well as getting to know them better, which I very much enjoyed.

The little village sounds very idyllic and I was quite jealous of the residents who were all getting ready for the summer fete. From the beer tent to the judging competitions for peoples vegetables, jams and cakes, in a glorious location on a lovely day, well I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a day.

A Summer Romance is brimming full of love, lust, relationships as well as some jealousy. It’s one of those stories that leaves you with a big soppy grin on your face and gives you a warm glow. I hope there are going to be more novels set in the lovely little village as I can’t wait to be transported there as well as to catch up with everyone in the future.

My thanks to the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Summer Romance is the continuation of A Village Romance, and turns what was a good first half, into a brilliant second half. Due to it being a direct continuation, I would recommend reading both of them in order as close together as possible, so as to get the full flow and feel for the story.

This story regularly had me laughing out loud, at various things that Billy has said, or some of the comical situations that occurred as Little Perran get ready for their summer fete. This is scandalous raunchy romance between two people that have a clear chemistry, especially after it becomes apparent just how much her current partner is abandoning her.

Milly is working for Ashley, who recently moved to the village, and she is central to a couple of the big storylines that occur. She is hiding a past that unfortunately soon catches up with her, and at the same time has a new blossoming romance of her own.

In one of the hottest summers in Little Perran, pulses are racing, temperatures are soaring and not just due to the weather. There is a good helping of drama that had me on the edge of my seat a it unfolded. A Summer Romance contains a fantastic mix of romance, drama, comedy, sex, gossip and scandal - what more could you want from a summery book?

Do read A Village Romance before reading this one - they're designed to be read as a pair!

From the moment ageing rock star Billy Baxter agrees that it can only be good for his failing career to move to the country and change his image – speeding into Little Perran, “singing” along with the Sex Pistols and almost colliding with a funeral cortege – I was totally hooked. The other newcomer to the village – author Ashley Wilmot-Fox – is really well-drawn too, and I loved his relationship with Milly and the way she speaks first and thinks about the consequences later. The characters in this book are – without exception – simply wonderful. I could name every single one and tell you why I loved them but my particular favourites (apart from Billy himself, of course) were… no, I can’t, really I can’t, I’d be here all day! Many are caricatures and extremes, but the author makes them quite magically real, however small their part in the main storyline and however peripheral to the action.

The setting is perfect, quite vividly real, the kind of quintessential English village where anyone would dream of living – but then again, maybe not, when everyone knows so much about everyone else’s business (and if they don’t, Stella will make sure that they do). By the end of the book, the geography of Little Perran was as familiar to me as the streets where I live – I’d be able to push my wheelbarrow between the various locations, with or without a kiln.

The humour – and I can be funny about such things – is marvellous. There are the near slapstick elements of Billy’s growing relationship with the wonderful Cynthia (I swear I know her…), the visual jokes like the pub’s watering system, the rotavator and the marrows, the incident with the dog and piglet (you’ll have to read it…), but also sparkling conversational exchanges and touches of the recognisably absurd in everyday life. But there are darker touches too – coming to terms with loss, relationship issues, coping with disability and a major (and very well done) thread on domestic violence. And I have to mention another thread involving Rafe the sheep-shearer that actually got me surprisingly hot under the collar – the author writes VERY well about passion and lust…

These books were absolutely wonderful – do try them. Before I tried Lynda Renham’s writing, I’d made one of those silly snap judgements based on nothing at all that her writing might not be entirely for me. I now want to read every single thing she’s written… I’m a confirmed fan.

This is a lovely little novella set in the fictional village of Little Perran. Seriously, where is this village because I want to move there as soon as possible!! It’s the second in the Little Perran Romance series (The first being A Christmas Romance) but it can definitely be read as a stand alone book. I haven’t read A Christmas Romance but felt very relaxed about reading this as it didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything or leave me with any questions unanswered.

When aging rock legend Billy Baxter moves to Little Perran, disaster never really feels too far away as he struggles to settle into a very different lifestyle! I just loved Billy from the minute he appeared with his political incorrectness to his social ineptness! But the star for me is the village itself, with its colourful characters and all the little local shops, it left me feeling very nostalgic.

This novella is the the perfect length for packing up for your holiday and it will make any journey pass in the blink of an eye as you get sucked into village life. I read it in an afternoon and was left with a smile on my face as it is a lovely feelgood romance with touches of comedy and melodrama.

The book is left on a bit of a cliffhanger (a bit of a shocker that I didn’t see coming!)  and you will need to buy book three to find out what happens to the villagers next. Thankfully there’s not long to wait as Book 3-A Summer Romance is due out very soon so keep checking back for my review!

I’m very grateful to the author for providing a review copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is the second book in The Little Perran Romances series. A series of novellas set in a beautiful, idyllic village in the Cotswolds where love finds a way of blossoming in the villagers lives …

A Christmas Romance is book 1 in The Little Perran Romances and you can find my review here. The novellas can be read as standalone but to appreciate and gain the most enjoyment out of the stories I would encourage you to read them all.

Billy Baxter is a has-been rocker, his recent album is not doing great sales wise, probably mimicking his life at the moment. His manager thinks it’ll be a great idea to clean up his act by moving out of London and into the country. Billy reluctantly agrees, packs his bags and guitar and zooms off to Little Perran. His arrival doesn’t go smoothly and people see the loud, rocker side of Billy immediately.

Another newcomer to the village, trying to escape his past, is author Ashley Wilmot-Fox. Following a terrible accident Ashley is suffering with his injuries. With a bashed up arm and a limp his melancholy towards his life with his disability is clearly visible until he spots shop worker Milly. Milly’s kindness and chatter charm him but he refuses to let his heart be broken again. However, when he places an advert for a Housekeeper/Domestic Helper and Milly applies for the job he can’t help himself and gives her the job.

Milly is relatively new to the village, has settled in really well, she works in the local village shop and also enjoys pottery in her spare time. The locals have warmed to Milly and it feels like she has been part of the village for years. Sadly, Milly has a secret past in the city and the village has been a welcome distraction for her.

We meet again the lovely villagers we fell in love with in book 1: A Christmas Romance; Frankie and Roux, Birdie and Ben. It was lovely to catch up with them.

How will aged rocker Billy Baxter cope with the more slower life in the country and will the villagers take to this forthright, brash man?

Will author Ashley Wilmot-Fox find the strength and the words to write again?

Will the past for our villagers old and new destroy their hopes and dreams for the future?

I loved this second book in the series, lots of new characters to welcome into the village. I love Lynda Renham’s writing style, she is very honest and frank and true to the characters. Lynda has great whit and humour and you can imagine the characters that Lynda has created on the pages. I was just getting into this charming village story with all it’s possibilities for lots of twists and turns in the villagers lives and I came to the end BUT I’m so excited that Lynda has book 3: A Summer Romance due to be published on the 1st July.

This story is fun, fruity and fabulous and has left me wanting more … 5/5*

Favorite Quotes:

That bleeding dog is better groomed than I am... She feeds it caviar. I bloody ask you. It nearly bit my whatsit off once. All I was trying to do was get into my own bed. It was my bed of course. Comes to something when the only threesome you have with your tart is with her bloody poodle.

Try and keep the noise down if you would. We're having a funeral and the Sex Pistols weren't quite what we'd planned as our accompaniment to carry in the hearse...

He felt the earth hit his backside and cursed. The rotavator was off, like a Dr. Who monster, spitting out vegetation in its wake... 'I'm just doing a bit of gardening,' he said innocently.

My Review:

I adored this amusing little novella about a tiny British village "in the country" with its special blend of residents and recent new arrivals. I was soon fascinated by each and every character as they proved to be a varied bunch, each with their own secrets and inner musings. A Village Romance was a quick and enticing read that had my attention from the start and kept me engaged throughout. The writing was humorous yet insightful and captivating in the midst of the fun. I love learning new words and phrases and being on the other side of 2 oceans from my Brit friends, I was on the back foot with several of the cultural references, sayings, and terms as they were completely unknown to me - such as - play Aunty Sally, gone and pulled, Mrs. Bouquet's, bit of a Wally, and shirtlifter. It was fun looking them up and asking my Brit friends for help and have since added them to my Brit vernacular. I am eager to continue the story and more than ready to gobble up the next installment.

A Village Romance is the second novel in The Little Perren Romances series. If you haven't read A Christmas Romance which is the first, fear not, as even though there are some of the characters from the previous book, they are mainly in the back ground and this can easily be read as a stand alone. Saying that though this story is actually told over two novels but luckily we don't have long to wait as A Summer Romance which is the third in the series is out in a weeks time.

I have to say I absolutely adore the character Billy Baxter in this book. He reminds me very much of the character that Bill Nighy plays in the film Love Actually. Through his character he brings a lot of humour to the story, though not to the residents of the village. He is used to leading the life of a famous rock star and living the high life, so coming to the small village takes a lot of adjustment and his arrival into the village is certainly a memorable one!

We also have Ash who has recently moved into the village, he is slightly more complex and has a lot to deal with after an horrific accident leaves him a shadow of the man he once was. Milly a resident of the village uses the opportunity of Ash coming into the village to get out of a mundane job in a shop by going to work for Ash which pays more and also gives her more time to spend doing a much loved hobby. It's also quite obvious that the pair fancy the pants off each other.

A Village Romance is a wonderful novella that has a lovely mixture of romance and humour that makes for a highly enjoyable reading experience.

**I would give this 2 1/2 stars**

This is the second book in a series and while you don't have to read the first book, it might help to introduce some of the characters of the town. I didn't realize it was the 2nd when I agreed to review, but as it is a novella, I don't think I missed too much other than maybe some more details on the townspeople.

I am not sure if the copy I read was edited. The story has a lot of potential but I felt like there was a lot of back and forth that made it feel disjointed. There is one section that I thought was accidentally put in there twice until I realized it was from another POV. I didn't quite understand why the author did this other than to understand what each character felt....but don't think it was totally necessary. There was also a mention of a character wanting to hire a housekeeper for $25 (or 25 pounds) an hour...maybe he was used to London prices? Or maybe because he was rich he could afford it? It just didn't seem to fit. **I have been told that 25pounds per hour is common in England**

There are a couple of celebrities that move into town..one a brash musician and the other a quite author that is hiding from himself. However, several ladies in town see past their gruff exteriors and work their way into the men's hearts.

The novella just sort of ends and you have to read the next one to pick up the story and where it leaves off because it does just leave you hanging.

This was a very quick easy read, followed on from A Christmas Romance. Whilst this focuses on other characters from the village, the characters from the first book are there, which is always nice. I love catching up with old characters to make sure they're doing OK. I like the way this series is written in third person and skips from character to character. When I was reading it, I could imagine the setting and feel the heat and rain. I like the characters and I can't wait for the next book in the series. I get the impression, things are only just heating up....

I ended up DNF'ing this book so I didn't think it was appropriate to leave a rating however I wanted to say I didn't like the characters at the start of the book and some of the things that were said were pretty offensive to me.
This is a book I would suggest sampling before committing to it because I knew pretty quick that this wasn't for me.

This book was a waste of time, there was no story line and changed characters so often that it didn't flow at all. Very disappointing

There was a time when I ignored book series, dismissing them straight away as reads I wouldn’t have the time to follow through on, but this year things have changed and I’ve found myself embracing and really enjoying them.

And there was a lot to enjoy about A Village Romance, the second book in the Little Perran Romance series by Lynda Renham writing as Amy Perfect. The start of the book, with two characters I really liked, Billy Baxter, the aging rock star who doesn’t realise his star has faded somewhat. Billy is about as inappropriate as you can get (in a light way, the book doesn’t go over the top with him) and I was happy out. The other was an author, Ash, or if we’re to be correct about it, Ashley Wilmot-Fox, a prestigious young author who’s suffering emotionally as well as physically after an accident. I loved Ash, and felt very much for him and the situation he was in.

Now in the book there were more characters, Millie, who I loved, so simple and down to earth, and then others who I didn’t warm to so much, in fact I’d go as far as to say that the town had its fair share of people who were, well, to put it in the words of one of the characters “People get too worked up about things in this village.” And that said it all. I felt that a lot of the little mix ups that inevitably happen along the way in a book to create some comedy were over reacted to and in terms of a book, that means either the events weren’t big enough to warrant a reaction, or the people were over the top. This was unfortunate as it was a very enjoyable, quick read, with so many other pluses to it, namely the three characters I mentioned and the lovely homely descriptions of beautiful scenic settings. In my limited experience (as I’ve said I only started reading series this year), this is my first that wasn’t chick lit and so maybe I couldn’t put it together and warm to it as much as usual, this had a touch of comedy in it but was more windswept romance of the ‘swoon’ type, which will appeal to those of you who like those take her in your arms type book, with some hot scenes thrown in, though more takes place towards the end of the book than at the start which is more concerned with showing us village life in Little Perran. Personally I would read this as part of the series as opposed to a standalone, the first being ‘A Christmas Romance,’ as I think it would serve to let you get to know the characters better.

The book ended on an excellent cliff hanger, and I look forward to the next installment, A Summer Romance, out the 1st July. Thanks to the author for the book in return for an honest review.

In a Village Romance we return to the countryside town of Little Perran, and are greeted by some very well known villagers, including Frankie and Roux, the main characters from book one, ‘A Christmas Romance’.

This time, there are new faces amongst the old, Billy Baxter the ageing rock star, Ashley Wilmott-Fox an award-winning novelist and Rafe the sheep-shearer.

Billy should definitely have come with a warning, as he’s a bit of a Calamity Jane. From nearly driving into a funeral procession to running over Cynthia’s prize marrows, and calling an ambulance for a horsefly bite! He likes to think of himself as a big superstar. Unfortunately for him, the rest of the world doesn’t see him like that anymore, and the younger generation don’t even know who he is. His agent has sent him to the village to try and use it as therapy, and get him back in the limelight, but will his plan work?

Ashley (Ash), has moved to Little Perran to get away from the city life. He has had a rough few years, from being in a serious life-changing accident, to his fiancee walking out two months before their wedding, and his friends deserting him. He has lost the will to live, but can one resident help him to see the light at the end of the tunnel?

Rafe has come to Little Perran in search of the woman he fell in love with the moment he clapped eyes on her. There is just one problem, she has a boyfriend. Will he manage to get the girl of his dreams?

As well the newcomers, all the wonderful cast from the first book are back, and it was lovely to see what each of them had been up to. It was like meeting up with old friends again.

What I like about the Little Perran books is that Lynda puts so much effort in to making the stories believable, yet they are also full of excitement and lots of comical moments. You can just visualise yourself in the village, and I would love to be one of the residents, as everyone is so friendly, or nearly everyone is. It’s like one big family, and the sun always seems to shine.

A fun, summery read that takes you perfectly into the third and final instalment ‘A Summer Romance’, and will leave you satisfied that you have just read a perfect book.

A Summer Romance is the third and final book in the Little Perran series by Lynda Renham. The story continues on directly from ‘A Village Romance’, in which the book ended with the shock release of Milly’s ex-husband, Lee, from prison.

Lee doesn’t know where Milly is, but he is obsessed with her and is determined to find her, no matter who or what tries to stand in his way.

Milly is happy being Ash’s house keeper, and the two are becoming more than employer and employee. When Milly gets hurt, Ash realises how much he cares for her and offers her a room in his house to look after her. But is it more than just looking after her that Ash wants?

Stella is up to her usual nasty tricks. This time she is getting involved in other people’s relationships and trying to drive a long-term couple apart, but will Stella be more of a help than an hindrance to the pair?

Billy Baxter, the rock star, has settled into country life quite nicely, and is enjoying Cynthia’s company. Was his agent right about the quite country life doing wonders for his reputation?

Rafe is still in love with Birdie, but will the two ever be together, or is a quick tumble in the hay all they are destined for?

The final part of the Little Perran series is the best so far. I was sad to see the characters and story come to an end, although it felt right, and I was happy for all of the villagers.

I would have loved to have seen more of Frankie and Roux in this book though, as their upcoming wedding was on the horizon, but wasn’t featured.

The book creates the usual cheery, uplifting vibe that Lynda’s books give off. Alongside all the love, romance, drama and fete planning, were lots of comical moments. I especially loved the pig and dog scene!

This book also covered some serious issues, which were handled delicately and with care.

I have loved Lynda’s books for a long time as they always manage to give me a laugh, and her creative skills are superb.

This book is definitely one you should not let pass you by. You will just need to read the others in the series first as this book doesn’t work as a stand alone.

Hold that blurb in mind. ;)

Okay. I downloaded this for free because I enjoy light, frothy summer romance stories. Its fairly short (103 pages) so I wasn't expecting anything too solid but that's fine with me.

A serious review here. I found the numerous SPaG errors irritating, as well as the changes of POV within scenes which had me head-hopping far too often to read comfortably.

Too many adverbs, too many stereotypical characters and clichéd dialogues. Moments when I had to read paragraphs several times in an attempt to make any sense of them at all. I did laugh though, when one of the characters offered an unskilled, unknown woman who worked in the village shop £25 an HOUR to do housework in his home. £25 an hour!! That's not just ludicrous, that's stupid.

I make no comment on the sex scene that was somewhat ...... unpleasant, in a weird sort of way.

But for all that, there were moments of real beauty within that kept me reading. Which was a shame. This could be a really great story if a decent editor got hold of it.

However, the real moment of WTF!! came when I got to then end and read ..................

The story continues in A Summer Romance ......

No. There wasn't even a 'part conclusion' to this story. It just ended. No resolution even hinted at - in fact there was yet another subplot and new character introduced in the final chapter.

I wont be buying any more. I really liked one of the characters, but I am afraid Little Perran can go on my list of places not to be revisited. I feel cheated - and that blurb?

Well , the Goodreads one adds this: This book is in two parts. Part two is available as an e book and is titled 'A Summer Romance'

This is the third book in The Little Perran Romances and I would advise you to read book 2 as this story continues from then. However, to appreciate all the characters and the setting I would encourage you to read the whole series, which in order is:
1.A Christmas Romance (The Little Perran Romances book 1)
2.A Village Romance (The Little Perran Romances book 2)
3.A Summer Romance (The Little Perran Romances book 3)

Total price to purchase all 3 ebooks at time of print (2/7/16) is £3.98 … great price for a wonderful, fun, flirty series of stories set in an idyllic village in the Cotswolds.

We left the villagers in book 2 getting use to the two new inhabitants of Little Perran. Billy Baxter, aged rocker, was just getting to grips with country life with the much needed help of Cynthia. His celebrity status brought the press and media to the village and chaos erupted with hilarious consequences. However, behind this frivolity danger was lurking concealed to one of our much loved villagers.

Milly was now working for the author Ashley Wilmot-Fox and she makes a startling discovery and immediately confronts Ash about it. She is shocked and angry with this new found information but surprisingly Ash feels quite enlightened that Milly has been frank with her words. Romances starts slowly blossoming for Milly and Ash but can they stop the horrors from her past spoiling their future?

Birdie also has to quarrel with her heart and she struggles with her conscious for the right direction.

This was another book full of humour and warmth from Lynda Renham. I was so pleased to rejoin the characters I had grown to love in Little Perran. I love Lynda’s frankness with her writing it makes the characters so much more real and easily imaginable in your head. This story also had a little darkness and drama it also had episodes of lust but the changes in direction fitted in well with the storyline. I hope this isn’t the last we’ll hear of our friends in Little Perran. 5/5*

After having read and enjoyed A Village Romance last week, I was rather relieved that I  didn’t have long to wait too long to read Book 3 in the series which concludes the story that was started in Book 2. A little warning to say that this probably can’t be read as a standalone so definitely read A Village Romance first.

So when we were we last in Little Perran we were left on a little bit of a cliffhanger! I’m not going to spoil it for anyone not having read A Village Romance yet but I just want to say that one member of the village is going to have to watch out for danger from an unexpected source!! The village fair is now in the planning stages so what better person to open it than Little Perrans newest celebrity resident Billy Baxter. I adore Billy still, he is settling into village life now but we are still getting the occasional “Billyism” and he adds a fabulous touch of humour to every scene he is in. We are also back with Birdy who has a difficult decision to make (well, I don’t think so but she needs a little bit more of a push!) And all the regular characters are there to help out. I especially love George and Lucy at the pub  as it seems to be the hub of all the village drama this time now that Milly is no longer working in the shop. In fact, even with all the drama,  I still want to move to this village so give me the postcode, my Sat nav awaits!

I sincerely hope that Lynda Renham doesn’t end this series here. I feel like I say goodbye to new friends whenever I finish her books so let’s hope there is more to come. A Summer Romance is the perfect book for your summer holiday, a lovely romantic comedy that can take you away from the rainy British summertime to a quaint little English village that we would all love to escape to.

Thank you to Lynda for my advanced copy of A Summer Romance in exchange for an unbiased review.

A Village Romance is the second book in The Little Perran Romance series, and can definitely be read as a standalone novella from A Christmas Romance. The ending has unsettled me, and at the time of reading it, I wasn't fully aware that it was meant to be read in conjunction with A Summer Romance. It's a good amount of set up and some story progression and I am curious to where this series is going.

Now that I have got the niggle out of the way, I should mention just how enjoyable this story was. Billy Baxter is an ageing rock star, and in his first chapter when he was being persuaded a move to the country would be good for his image, the amount of things he came out with that had me giggling was impressive. He is politically incorrect and he doesn't exactly fit smoothly into life in Little Perran.

There is another newcomer to the village too, Ashley, but we don't know much about him yet apart from that he is a kind natured person who suffered a horrible accident and he is re-adjusting to life, in a new village where he isn't pestered continually by well-wishers.

Some of the characters from the first book were back and it was great to catch up with them all, there are new romances simmering all over the village and I suspect that the next book is going to be full of drama.

A Village Romance is full of Lynda Renham's trademark humour and is an enjoyable story on the whole. I am eagerly awaiting starting on A Summer Romance to see whether any of my suspicions are correct and to hopefully gain closure on some of the plots that felt started but not completed.

Overall its lovely to be back in Little Perran, I love the village and its cast of characters, but my irritation at how this book has finished, has slightly marred my perspective.

Thank you to Lynda Renham and Raucous Publishing for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

I have previously read 'A Christmas Romance' the first in the Little Perran series so I was excited to see what part two would hold. 'A Village Romance' takes us back to the idyllic setting and we get reacquainted with some of the residents. I was delighted to meet up with Roux again because he was my heartthrob!

Now there are a few new residents stirring life up a touch. The washed up, has been pop star Billy Baxter and the rather intriguing Ashley Wilmot-Fox an author who has suffered an accident which renders him disabled. Also Rafe Wylde the rather tasty farm labourer.

The book begins in classic comedic style .. Billy arrives at the same moment as Aunt Rose's funeral .. let's say he didn't endear himself to many, he continues to be a lively character, the unfortunate occurrence with the rotovator had me in stitches. He is a lovable rogue with potential.

Ashley comes across as a 'poor me' life has dealt me a cr*p hand type but maybe Milly can lift him out of the gloom.

Rafe, is the muscular hunk .. what are his intentions with his employer ?

This is a short novella, ideal for summer, short, sweet and hilarious in places with romance included. I would love to find a village like this, even though there is always plenty of gossip the community bond shines through in the books.

You don't need to read the first one to enjoy this but I would recommend it, to meet the characters and set the scene. 'A Village Romance' however ends on a critical cliff hangar so I would strongly suggest buying/reading them as a pair or curiosity will be unbearable!

I have written this review before completing 'A Summer Romance' so I don't inadvertently give spoilers but I am very keen to find out what happens!

Thanks to Lynda for the ARC and entertainment.

Some time ago I reviewed A Village Romance by Lynda Renham (see review here), part of The Little Perran Series. I actually read the next installment, this one, A Summer Romance, straight away, but things got in the way and so I never got to review. Now, while it wasn’t quite for me, I did enjoy. It begins with a nice little run down on what had happened the last time we encountered the people of Little Perran. I thought this was a nice touch- I always enjoy a nice lead in, to get you back into the spirit of the book, even though I’d just read A Village Romance. We were back to Milly, working away at her pottery, and reminded that there were secrets, and I looked forward to all being revealed.

I have to admit, the place we went to next reminded me that I hadn’t been a fan of a lot of the characters in A Village Romance, with a lot of backward notions on women being ‘made’ to do things that made me roll my eyes.

There was a lot of swoony type romance, and more canoodling, which will definitely appeal to many, however we were also hit with some slang and cursing that took away from the whole homely aspect at times. That being said there was some lovely scenes with the preparations underway for the village fete, and I liked some of the comedy we encountered. There were also characters I did enjoy and the book flew by in a dash.

I’ll be honest, while I think this book will go down very well with romance lovers, it wasn’t necessarily my cup of tea, but I did find it enjoyable. Thanks to the author for the book in return for an honest review.

This is a romantic comedy, a short story that is in two parts, the second book is "A Summer Romance." I recommend this for adults only. There is a cliff hanger so beware, but I am excited to read what happens next. I really enjoyed the authors sense of humor, it was a laugh out loud at times read. I did not read the first book A Christmas Romance which might have gave me more details into some of the characters, but otherwise this can be read as a stand alone.

This small little town just got a whole lot busier with its new guests. They all contribute to this town and all make it better in some way. Billy Baxter is anything but polite, he is a rock star that has seen better days so to speak. The country life is not for him, but at least he is making a go of it. Then we have Ashley Wilmot-Fox a young author who was in a horrible accident and is in a state of depression. His whole life has been turned upside down and he is trying to heal and start over. While other of the townspeople are just trying to stay hidden in the background. Out of sight, out of mind... right?

favorite passages:
"Her cheeks were rosy red against the pale porcelain of her perfect complexion."
"Saved by the cat's tail it seemed."
"It's like being in our own little Noah's ark. Let's hope it copes with the floods."
"The rain began the hammer down on the shed roof. It smelt fresh and lovely."

This is the second novella in the Little Perran series and follows on from A Christmas Romance where we were introduced to the colourful characters of the village of Little Perran. In this new instalment we are treated to new arrivals, some being celebrities! Although part of a series this can be read as a stand-alone.

Two rather different guys are the new village residents, Billy Baxter, a 56 year old has been rock star storms in like a whirlwind and Ashley Wilmot-Fox, an author, who arrives more sedately. Little Perran doesn’t know what hit it! Rafe, a sheep shearer from a nearby village is helping out on Ben and Birdies farm but he has his eyes on more than just the sheep. These are just a few of the characters who are about to cause mayhem and shock to the village folk.

A Village Romance contains humour that I have come to expect with Lynda’s writing and although this story has some ‘politically incorrect’ statements it has nicely left the door open for book three, A Summer Romance which it out very soon. I am looking forward to finding out how the newbies adapt to country life with the village residents and how Little Perran will cope with the celebrities as I feel that A Village Romance has laid down the foundations for some interesting romances.

Well things certainly hot up in this third novella in the Little Perran series. The newcomers settle into life in the country and romance soon blossoms. There is however a nasty piece of work in the form of Lee Millie’s ex, who straight out of prison, sneaks into the village determined to get Milly back.

The annual summer fete that this year is dedicated to the memory of Rose Miles, who was featured in the first story A Christmas Romance, brings the community together. There’s fun with Polly the piglet as she causes havoc whilst being chased by Buster, Frankie’s dog. Billy Baxter the rock star is a hit much to the surprise of some of the residents. Milly’s ceramics are selling like hot cakes and Cynthia has entered her prized vegetables, jam and cake into a competition. Then amongst the joviality and laughter a drunken WhatsApp message and a jealous Ex changes the atmosphere and relationships within Little Perran in a heartbeat.

I am glad that I was able to read this sequel to A Village Romance so soon as I now feel that the Little Perran series is complete with all the characters going back to living the sedate country life they deserve.

This is a romantic comedy, it should be read after A Village Romance, it was not meant to be read as a stand alone. The author once again fills the pages with laughter and graces us with her sense of humor. But there is also a touch of sadness in this read. I can only hope the author will write another book to allow us another view into their world.

Little Perran works its way into your heart and becomes home. Well that is how is so happens for Barry Baxter, and it has nothing to do with a possibility of a new found fame. No he happens to love his new country life just fine, and Cynthia is the cherry on top. Milly is finally able to relax, maybe? With Ashley's help she will be able to finally do what she loves. They will both be able to heal. He has helped her as much as she has helped him. And Birdie finally realized just because you are comfortable, doesn't mean you are in love.

favorite passages:
"He was so close that she could see his brown eyes had flecks of green in them."
"George looked over his shoulder. Celebrities, he thought, they're nothing but a pain in the backside, except Billy Baxter of course."

After leaving Little Perran on a cliff hangar at the end of A Village Romance I was eager to read this one.

Thankfully we were thrown straight back in and could continue the story. There is plenty of action to come for a few of the village's couples, true love never runs smoothly.

Stella is up to her old tricks, a real nasty piece of work and certainly causing trouble where she can. Billy the pop star has toned himself down and blended nicely into the community. His antics provide some much needed humour because this book is a little darker in content but concludes the story nicely.

The traditional summer fete kept all the folk busy preparing for the largest/best veg, cakes, and involves a piggy moment of smiles.

I really enjoyed this and feel as though I have said farewell to a group of friends with the hope of another visit next year! I have no idea if Lynda is planning a return to the village but I would be the first to read it if she does *hint*. A series of three novellas .. best read in order if you can.
