Heather Nelson lives on a farm with her family in the foothills of majestic Mount Hood in Oregon. She is a long time resident of the Mountain community living in Rhododendron, Oregon since the mid 1980s, when she and her husband, Brian, were married. She is the mother of three grown sons and has six grandchildren. Heather retired from her career in the healthcare industry in 2010, and started caring for two of her grandchildren three days per week while their parents are working. Shortly after retirement, she also rescued several starving horses. She has always been horse crazy. She also always thought about writing children’s stories, but never dreamed of publishing the stories. Heather began seriously writing children’s stories for her grandchildren. One of their favorite stories was about “Daisy The Protector Dog”, a story focusing on love, kindness, friendship and protection from a dog’s point of view. Heather published this story in 2012, so children everywhere can read about how dogs like to protect and care for their home and family. Her second published book, “First Summer with Horses” is a story about two horse-crazy girls during an impressionable time of growing up, accepting responsibility and making dreams come true. (written in collaboration with illustrations by Candace L. Diehl). In March, 2015, Heather published her first adult novel, entitled “Lost Family: FOUND!”, written with Anthony D. Leonard. This is the story of an American family being discovered by an unknown brother left behind in England at the end of WWII. In August, 2015, “Minerva’s Maneuvers” was published, about a little hyperactive girl and the benefits of pet therapy. In December 2015, "The Calendula Flower" was published, about benefits and usefulness of an ordinary garden flower. In June 2016: "Bart Bear's Hibernating Experience" was published, about a naughty little bear. This book encourages children to mind their parents. In publication and expected late 2016 or early 2017, "Journey of Sally the Bird" a story to help children deal with grief. Heather has also had one of her stories selected for the storybook walkway at the Molalla River Academy, in Molalla, Oregon.
