This books small size makes it the perfect invertebrate book to haul around with you while you are looking for local insects.
I constantly find myself referring back to this resource, especially when I was going through a Heteronychus arator phase.
This is specifically an insect book. Although it does touch on arachnids a tiny bit, it does not go into extreme detail about invertebrates that are not insects.
So, if you are wanting a book that will enable you to identify your local spiders, snails and slater beetles, as well as insects, this book is not for you.

Backyard Insects by Paul Horne and Denis Crawford is an astounding book that is detailed and beautiful at the same time. This book is a child's book but for adults or older children that want to learn more about the variety of insect species in the backyards of Australia. The images are amazing! The book is packed with close up, clear, crisp shots of all kinds of critters and some of which I had never seen before. Each insect they give a rundown of their life such as what they eat, their mating, life cycle, what makes them different, protection, egg laying, etc. It is detailed but not boring like a textbook. Some of the insects are truly beautiful and some are horrifying! It is not a little book either. There are lots of critters to give you goose bumps if you are not a bug person. A wonderfully thought-out book, well organized and pictures are top notch. Well done! I received this book from NetGalley for a honest review and it in no way effected my review or rating.
