Breaking Barriers

Rate this book
Gunshots ring out as Ann Jones enters the church. She hides in the bathroom until they stop, then stumbles into the sanctuary. The congregation lies dead in pools of blood. To rebuild the church, she starts True Light Guardians. At the first meeting, she’s attacked by a terrorist, but rescued by James Crawford. He melts her heart, cold from her father’s abuse, and they fall for each other. She’s afraid to commit to love that might grow angry later, like the type she knew as a child. James yearns to stop other attempts on Ann’s life, but can’t. Tormented by her constant risks, he breaks up with her. When an assault sends her to the hospital, an unlikely ally shares Ann’s plight with James, but he reveals a lead that puts all three of them in even more danger.

In the very near future Christians in the US are targeted for destruction. Ann knows, or thinks she knows many who could be likely culprits when she’s being stalked and attempts made on her sanity and life. When she takes on the job of leading disenfranchised and now underground church members in a new united effort to save the faith, attempts on the people of faith ramp up. The new man in Ann’s life, James, shows her not only how to practice what she preaches, but also how to trust God and let go of painful mistrust she’s carried since childhood. Ann’s stubbornness about her personal safety gives James more angst than he believes he can handle.

The story contains some humor mixed in with the real possibilities of future and present attacks. We’re not as safe as we think we are. Pallotta’s story is told through several viewpoints and focus on the gentle and growing love between two people caught up in frightening events outside of what we’ve come to accept as reasonable and expected safety. The goons might provide a little comic relief, but the potential situations underscore a general lack of respect that seems rampant in these times. When Ann can’t trust family, boss, workmates, maybe not even colleagues or friends, what’s left? A short novella will transport readers into a realm where trust not only relies on being able to sort out feelings, but also on faith.

Ann rebuilds a church after a terrible trauma of finding the congregation lying lifeless in puddles of blood. She forms a secret underground group, “True Light Guardians” but the solace and fellowship is interrupted again by terror. She chance meets James Crawford, when he rescues her, however; things go erratic from there. An attack sends Ann to the hospital. Exposing a clue, James, Ann and a dubious supporter find themselves in the line of peril. James ends his relationship with Ann, due to her persistent jeopardies, making his life haywire. Ann has her fears as well; her childhood dilemmas cause her to not throw caution to the wind in relationships, but on the other hand James has her desiring him passionately. Hang on for a whirlwind of a tale that’ll take you to the sunshine state of Florida and have you oohing, awing, shaking your head and even smiling throughout. Author Gail Pallotta had done it again, written an exceptional faith based, action packed romance. Bravo to a great read!!

Action Packed

Ann Jones leads True Light Guardians, a secret underground group. Hidden for a good reason. Terrorists are targeting Christians.

If the church comes under the persecution as described in this book, I hope there’s a character like Ann leading the charge. She’s brave and determined to follow God, even in the midst of danger.

She went into scary situations without thought of herself.

I enjoyed the fast pace, continuous action, and high tension. The good guys were great, the bad were devils.

I recommend this book, and I look forward to more by Gail Pallotta.

Ann Jones is being stalked, but by whom and why? Her new friend, James, knows the reason is Ann’s beliefs in standing up for Christianity. She’s blind to see it and blames people she works with and her past until it becomes all too evident that she may lose her life for her beliefs.

A sweet romance with lots of suspense.

I was really happy to be able to have an opportunity to read this book. When Christian churches are under attack, and Christians band together to resolve the threats and violence, Ann finds herself being stalked by someone. The book gave some wonderful descriptive detail of the trip in the Everglades. The story, set in coastal Florida, was enthralling and I found myself reading through to the end without stopping. I think you will enjoy this book which has mystery, romance, suspense and danger with a Christian theme.

I received an e-book copy of this book from the author for my honest review, which I have given.

The first words gripped my heart and twisted hard, and Ms. Pallotta’s words didn’t release their strangle hold until the final sentence.

Her characters bloomed on each page, except for her antagonist—The Worm. He slithered and slimed everything he touched. And Ann was his target. Ms. Pallotta’s twists and turns in the plot line had me screaming at Ann—“Nooo!” But convinced God called her for this moment, she plunges on, knowing every day might be her last.

The final scenes caused my heart to pound. Great job! Timely story! Loved the book!

A church shooting causes Ann Jones to create a group to help churches and Christians be safer. She is attacked leaving a meeting but is rescued by James. Will they discover who is behind this before it is too late?

This was a good read. The situations in the story are plausible in this day and age. Well worth a read.

I received a copy for my honest review.
