Women in SpecOps? Never… until he sleeps with the most lethal woman in the world.
Alex Wolf would never believe that women could handle Special Operations, especially someone like Kat with her soft skin, feminine curves and party-girl attitude. When he discovers her real job, he wants to protect her from the terrorists who would kill her, and make her his forever.
Katlin Callahan spends weeks, sometimes months, hunting the most dangerous men on earth as the covert Ladies of Black Swan team leader. Between missions, the only man she wants in her bed makes her heart pound and her body zing. Losing her heart, and focus, could get them both killed.
Unrelenting Love is the first book in KaLyn Cooper’s Black Swan series. Each romantic suspense features one of five, active duty women secretly trained in SpecOps. If you like the action-packed stories of Susan Stoker, Gennita Low and Sharon Hamilton, you’ll love this series.
KaLyn Cooper’s romances blend fact and fiction with blazing heat and heart-pounding suspense. Twenty-two years as a military wife has shown KaLyn the world, and thirty years in PR taught her that fact can be stranger than fiction. She leaves it up to the reader to separate truth from imagination. She, her husband, and bird dog live in Tennessee on a micro-plantation filled with gardens, cattle, and quail. When she’s not writing, she’s at the shooting range or on the river.
A strong 3+ stars, with the only detraction that the H was a bit dense at times, repeatedly so.
I enjoy the SEAL/Ranger/SpecOps trope and I am happy to find one that flips the script. Why to the guys get all the fun with guns and things that go boom? This story does just that, with a team of sexy killer women who don't need your help, thank you.
As the first in the series, it was necessary to establish everyone in the team, which took away from the central adventure, but certainly built a solid foundation. I wished for more time spent in the field, but the adventures back home, including some fairly obvious intrigue.
I read one of the later books in an anthology, but I can't recall which one. I guess I'll have to read them all. I anticipate that they will improve with each outing.
This is the first book I have read by Kalyn Cooper. This is about Katlin Callahan who was best friends through high school and college with Alejandro Lobo [Alex Wolf] and Tyler Malone. She married Ty who cheated on her numerous times. Ty and Alejandro fought in the war together and Ty was killed. Katlin hadn't heard or seen Alejandro in 3 years. Katlin was trained in all the Special Forces groups with some other women and they are called Ladies of Black Swan and Katlin's code name was Lady Hawk, they were trained to assassinate back guys overseas. Then one day she wakes up to the noise of an intruder and she pulls a gun on him and it turned out to be Alejandro [Alex]. Alex was in the Special Forces and left the Marines and his friends all work for Guardian Security which Alex is part owner of. Katlin and the Ladies of Black Swan use them when they are in the U.S. Katlin and Alex's relationship starts to get a bit heated up [if you know what I mean]. If you want to know how the whole story goes you will need to buy the book. I truly loved this book and I am looking forward to book #2!!
I think the author was quite knowledgeable in the lingo of the military and the actual storyline was ok but...the majority of the book, the repetitive inner dilemmas, was long winded and boring. For a team of assassins there wasn't much action, just a lot of kissing and teasing foreplay. It's nice to read about a strong female but her past certainly didn't exhibit that fact. And don't even get me started on what such a trustworthy, wonderful, amazing guy the male lead was???!!! You know the one who isn't bothered about seeing his grandmother let alone his own daughter!!! I did manage to finish the book...eventually. Found it free. 2 1/2🌟🌟
This book kicks off a new series about a group of women who were trained in all the Special Forces groups and are called Ladies of Black Swan. They work for a secret group of Homeland Security and when sent in they assassinate specific terrorist that could cause America harm.
I love series with kick ass women and Black Swan is defiantly that. We get to see the women not only in action through a big part of the book but also on their down time where we see the more vulnerable sides of them.
Now you may be wondering who are the men in this series. Well they are a group of men who had all served in Special Forces but now work for Guardian Security. The ladies of Black Swan use them as their security detail whenever they are back in the states – even though the men dont have a clue they are actually deadly assassins that work for the government.
Katlin Callahan is the team leader – code name Lady Hawk. On a mission she is as tough as they come but her personal life is another story. Through high school and college she was best friends with two men, Alejandro Lobo and Tyler Malone. She ended up marrying Tyler but not before her and Alejandro had a relationship. Tyler ended up cheating on Katlin through out their marriage and left her very jaded. When he was killed in action she didnt have a whole lot of emotions left for him to grieve. When Alejandro left the Marines he changed his name to Alex Wolf. He is now one of the managing partners for Guardian Security and still suffers from the guilt of not being able to save his best friend Tyler on the battlefield and also from what he thinks is Unrequited love from Katlin.
These two haven't seen each other since Tyler's funeral and when they meet up again the old sparks fly along with plenty of suspense when a mission for the Black Swan's goes bad and the men of Guardian Security pitch in to help.
There were lots of other side plots going on through out the story and we were introduced to a large cast of characters but that didnt in anyway overwhelm me as a reader. Looking forward to more stories about the women of Black Swan.
I was given this book by the author for a honest review. This is the first book I have read by KaLyn Cooper and absolutely loved it. I plan on reading the rest of her works.
Most men feel women can't survive as Special Ops agents but Katlin, aka Kat has proven them wrong along with her team of "Black Swans". They are an elite group of women who are government sanctioned assassins.
Alejandro Lobo, Alex Wolf, is retired Spec Ops and now part owns and runs a nationwide security company. He has known Kat since high school but have not spoken to her in over 3 years. He has no idea she is her silent partner in his business.
When they meet accidentally at one of the corporate penthouses, they both feel the attraction they had for each other over 10 years ago. Alex has no idea of what Kat does and thinks she is just an analyst for the government.
This book is filled with some violence, smoking hot sex, intrigue and some bad ass women. I highly recommend this to everyone.
I absolutely love the ladies of Black Swan. This talented team of 5 women are lethal and intriguing while in the field. Off the field they're gorgeous, intelligent woman who like to have fun. Kat is reunited with her old friend Alex and her need to feel desired as a woman is at war with the betrayal and hurt she's still trying to get over from her past. This story is full of action, suspense, romance and so much more. Danger lurks everywhere even close to home and Kat and Alex must work together to keep each other safe and to grab hold of a love they've been fighting for years.
These are some kick ass women!! And the men.......... Oh my!! Love through heartache, loss and found again. KaLyn you weave a great story with characters I have come to love. I want another story soon, please???
Meh. I had a hard time finishing this. Maybe it’s because it was the first book and had to explain everything. It felt like it tried too hard to make the women more badass than men. Mostly it told us how badass they were. A few times it had to make the men dumb in order to show how badass the women were. It just felt like it tried too hard. Again, maybe it’s because it’s the first book and had to set the stage for future books. I like my heroines to be strong, but I just want them to BE strong…not having it shoved in my face over and over being Told how strong. A few inconsistencies too, in the beginning a point was made about how the women were all plain, not unattractive and not overly attractive, so they fit in and don’t draw attention. Yet later it was stated over and over how attractive they were, and a few military timeline things that didn’t quite fit. I also didn’t really feel anything for Alex and Kat. Not sure he’s all that great a hero. No problem not seeing his daughter, mother or grandmother for long periods of time. He basically told the heroine that her husband cheated because of her, not cool. She’s an okay heroine. Just again a bit too much having to puff out their own chests about how awesome they are. I never quite understood how she came into so much money. Buying restaurants, multiple buildings and funding the start up of the security business. All within 3 years. Not realist at all to me.
So, an okay book overall, but I’m not sure I’ll continue the series.
Katlin Callahan is Lady Hawk. The leader of one the worlds most deadliest ladies assassin team. On paper they do not exist. But the 5 of them are kick ass ladies on assignment and durning their down time.
Alex Wolf was Kat's best friend in high school. He also was her late husband best friend. Alex hasn't talked or seen Kat in three years. But all that's about to change.
Little does Alex know Kat is the silent partner in his thriving security business. He also doesn't know what Kat or her friends really do for Homeland Security. When they meet again. Sparks fly. Kat wants Alex again and she's going to have him on her terms. Little does Kat know Alex has his own plans for her.
When Alex finds out what Kat really does, can he stand to let her do what she does best? He is put to the test when things go wrong and she needs him. Does he rush to help her or does he walks away?
I can't wait to find out about who's lucky enough to fall for the rest of the Black Swans.
** I received a copy from the Author in return for an honest review… **
Given by the author, this is my first books of Kalynn Cooper Finally! A kick ass heroine! A black ops team leader, code name Lady Hawk! What can be more hot than that! Usually everytime i start my reading, my first tought is...will the hero be my next book boyfriend or not. But Kalynn give me something new and i love it. Reading this book is like watching action movie. I love it. Make me wonder are there any Black Swan in reality. That is how good Kalynn create Lady Hawk. I really enjoy reading it. But for the romance part, i'm sorry to say i can't feel Kaitlin and Alex chemistry. Yes they have sexy scene. They are hot. But i couldn't feel it. For me she is Lady Hawk not Kaitlin.
Wow, this is a fantastic read! It's action-packed and Lady Hawk and Alex have incredible chemistry. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story. This is a second chance romance. Ms. Cooper has a very unique voice and one that I really like. She is known for her strong heroines and Lady Hawk is definitely that. I can't wait to read the next books in this series. Happy reading!
This book is a graab you by the balls and don't let you go . It is fast paced, full of action and some hot steamy scenes. The author keeps you glued to the pages to see how things unfold and you won't put it down until your finished. This is a love story revisited with some hot sexy female kick ass action. A definite must read
I loved this so much! Exciting from front to back, could not put it down! Alex and Lady Hawk and the entire team of Black Swan and Guardian were so hot!
Absolutely hated this thing. Incredibly boring. The characters made me cringe. So much lying. Too much attempts at alpha status that never convincingly paid off. Just not believable.
No man owns me!” said Kaitlin “Lady Hawk” Callahan simultaneously to both her boss and her lover in Unrelenting Love by KaLyn Cooper. Kaitlin, this Alpha woman, is my new she-hero!
Lady Hawk leads an all women Black-Ops team of assassins who work under the Top-Secret guise of the United States government. They are assigned Black Swan missions to “assassinate” select targets to prevent huge disasters from taking place and affecting the stability of the world political, financial, diplomatic scenes while harming innocent people.
The other four other women on Kaitlin’s Black Swan team are equally Mensa-intelligent, gorgeous, and deadly. The women have developed close, sisterhood-like friendships at work, on missions, and on their personal time. They work and play as a cohesive group, often knowing what the other is thinking before it is spoken. Because of the dangerous work they do, during their “down” time, the women hire guards for protection so they can truly relax and enjoy their lives without their weapons.
Life becomes complicated for Kaitlin when her past and present collide. As a widow of three years, Kaitlin has become successful in her career; but on a personal level, all work and no play has made her life lonely and stagnant. Kaitlin makes a decision to stop avoiding Alex Wolf, a friend from her past, and let the consequences be damned! However, her ruthless boss Jack, who not so secretly desires Kaitlin for his own and stops at nothing, including sexual harassment on the job, to claim her. Kaitlin is a strong woman who is comfortable with her own decisions and her persona. How will she feel with two men interfering in her life?
I really can't say enough good things about this series and this author. Her characters and world's are thoroughly built and solid. It's like there is never a word or scene that is out of place. These books are carefully plotted and crafted with love by a true artist. I enjoy every one of her books that I read. Even the ones I hesitate to read, I end up falling in love with. You know what I mean you love the series but there's one book your not sure you will like so you put it off because you don't want to ruin the series for yourself? It hasn't happened. No it wasn't this book. But one in this series i was hesitant about and damned if she didn't blow me away and I fell in love with the series all over again. KaLyn Cooper is a true master of her craft. You can buy anyone of her books and you will love it.
I have been given some of these books in contest and some for free for an honest review. If this says anything at all I always try to buy copies because I love this authors work so much and I want to support her.
My favorite aspect of Unrelenting Love is the strong female characters. I liked the idea of addressing the male/female special ops integration issues with an all-female team and the unique advantages a female team could have.
One difference between this book and others I’ve read recently is that the words were mostly about advancing the plot (what happened, what was said, etc.). There wasn’t a lot of descriptions to set the scene, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There was enough description to understand the story and I would prefer to have too little over having too much.
One area that I would have liked explained more was how the main character merges her faith with her career actions. It was mentioned briefly, but wasn’t a big part of the storyline so I wondered why it was included.
Overall I liked the book and will read the next book in the series.
This story reached me on a level I wasn't prepared for and thoroughly enjoyed the journey!"
This is my first book by Ms. Cooper. Her astounding story is rife with detail and has complex character development. Her tale is a constant roller coaster ride of adventure. In all my 30 years of reviewing I rarely run across a writer whose tales are so good I will reread it. But I read this twice in a week and caught so many nuances in it and insights into the story lines that I will most likely read it again once I have all of the books in the series, just as a treat to myself. That being said I rarely give spoiler alerts by sharing parts of the book. But in this instance I'm willing to break my rules. The book takes place in areas I have lived and I was able to visualize the sites so well it was "old home week" for me. I read this book on my reader on Onslow Beach and the characters took a whole new dimension for me.
Kat and Alex are the classic second chance lovers we all love to read about. They're relationship is the one we all have lived and the compromises they make are real to life too. Reading about women in conflicts for our country brings pride to women everywhere. And though I know women are coddled and protected even in the armed forces, it is exciting to read about what they "could do" if only given a chance.
This book is a must read for anyone looking for "second chances" HEA's and adventures. I have just moved this writer to my top 10 list of must have writers and will be reviewing more in the immediate future.
A rare treat is reading a story so well written that you can't put it out of your mind. Ms. Cooper delivers!
What a wonderful book and concept. I love the idea of an all-female military group that goes in, kicks butt and takes names. I haven't read a book with this concept and I loved it.
Kaitlin and Alex have a long and interesting past. They have been friends and lovers. For a good share of their life they have been intertwined. I liked reading about these two because when they were mad at each other you could still feel the love was still there. You want these two to be together because now is their time.
I really liked Alex in this book. Alex is a traditional alpha male who likes to be in charge. However, he seems to be able to read Kaitlin like no other and seems to be OK in certain circumstances to let her lead.
I really didn't like Kaitlin's boss, that man was just slimy.
WOW! What an intriguing story. This is about the all female team led by Kaitlin. Also, it is about Alex. These two have been friends for forever but separated when Alex got his ex-wife pregnant and he did the right thing by marrying her. Then Kat married their other best friend. Unfortunately, they both were in bad marriages then Kat's husband was killed. Three years later, the two finally meet at gunpoint. Alex is thrilled to have Kat back in his life but then he finds out things about her that he almost cannot accept but the realized that he wants her back in his life so he accepts what she is. Once the last mission is done, which almost got members of both groups killed, these two finally realized they were meant for each other so they will work on their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job KaLyn! I would recommend this book.
Alex Wolf would never have believed that women could be in Special Operations until he discovered Kat's real job is not soft and feminine. When he discovers that terrorists now want to kill her he goes all alpha-male and wants to protect her and make her his forever. Katlin Callahan spends weeks or months hunting the most dangerous men on earth as the Team Leader and one of the covert Ladies of the Black Swan. Between missions the only man she wants in her bed makes her heart sing but if she loses her heart and focus it could get them both killed.
I really enjoyed this story with the special ops angle, the secrecy, the shared history and the raw passion between Kat and Alex. The action was targeted and well-considered and the passion was off the charts. Well written, easy to read, feel and understand. A great introduction to Alex and Kat as well as the series.
Great 1st book of a new series by KaLyn Cooper. I love reading military romance novels and having it based on women instead of the usual alpha males is awesome. The 5 Ladies of Black Swan are killing machines each with their own area of expertise. Their leader, Kat aka Lady Hawk's, story opens the series. It has betrayal, re-connections, a sick stalker boss and lots of military fighting action. The characters are well written and developed. When you finish the book you feel like you know the Ladies and want to follow then along on their journey. Alex wants to protect Kat but he slowly comes to accept and respect her and her crew for the great soldiers that they are. Imagine his surprise when he finds out his friend is the legendary Lady Hawk! I am looking forward to reading book 2.
Fast paced story about an all female black ops team. Kaitlyn and Alex are high school sweethearts but haven’t seen each other for three years, until early one morning when Kat pulls a gun on an intruder and it turns out to be Alex. Now Alex has reconnected with Kat he has no intention of losing her again, despite her job and their past. HFN ending. Left with some unanswered questions re the death of Ty, though apparently their story will be ongoing in this series of books. I hope that eventually Kat will be able to realise her dream of become a mother. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Unrelenting Love by KaLyn Cooper is an outstanding second chance romance. Ms. Cooper has provided readers with a well-written book. The cast of characters is phenomenal. Katlin is the leader of the Black Swan team, women operatives working under Homeland Security. Alex has left the Marines and now is a partner, running Guardian Security. Alex and Katlin's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzlin' sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to my next KaLyn Cooper book. Unrelenting Love is book 1 of the Black Swan Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Katlin and her team are an all women special forces. No one believes they are real. Alex is the head of Guardian Security. He doesn't believe women should be in any Special Forces. Men are the only ones that can handle that. Alex and Kat have known each other since high school. There has been something between them since then but they both married someone else. His ended in divorce and hers ended in her husband being buried. Kat's team is sent on a dangerous mission. A mutual friend has a horrible feeling and Alex and a team follow the ladies. This doesn't go over too well. If they all make it out alive, will Kat still be with Alex or did he blow it?
Charlie's Angels meets Specials Ops makes a perfect blend for action and romance. And that's exactly what Unrelenting Love delivers.
Without giving too much away, imagine a team of strikingly beautiful women who are trained to kill and do it more efficiently than their male counterparts. But there's a glass ceiling in the military, which keeps most women out of combat operations.
That rule, however, doesn't impact the Black Swans.
Although the blurb says action and alpha type women they aren't really. Really no action to speak of. Not enough descriptive writing to pull you into the book. Need a new editor desperately. There is just no depth to the characters either. I honestly almost quit reading 50 percent through. All talk no do. Sorry. If i hadn't already bought the 2d book I would not read it. But for the authors efforts she deserves to get paid.
