The premise of the manga highlighted the 'forbidden love' between the male lead and his male 'best friend'. Well, in Rampo's time homo-eroticism might be shocking and forbidden, but I honestly love the forbidden, twisted, fatal romance in Strange Tale of Panorama Island a lot more.
