-ADAM GRANT, PhD, New York Times best-selling author of 'Originals' and 'Give and Take'

STOP! is not a book about health, wellness, stress reduction, diet, and exercise. There are thousands of books on those topics. STOP! is not fundamentally a business or a self-help book. Eric Parmenter’s STOP!, based on the latest behavioral and brain science, is designed to help you figure out what you can STOP doing to create more space in your life to enhance your joy, your wellbeing and productivity, so that you can live a life on purpose. Parmenter, a top healthcare consultant, candidly shares his personal experiences that prompted him to write this useful book, an easy, but thought-provoking read.

Genuine mesage, simple and direct discourse.
Interestingly, the manuscript of this book emerged as a manual that made the author for himself, so this reflects his own love, his desire to improve his life continually doing things with consciousness, the authenticity of the message, the simple and direct discourse.
A book I enjoyed reading, contains reflections on each of the 21 topics, with several I could identify and consider making changes to create more space for a more satisfying life, with less stress and achieve significant achievements. It has an interesting list of books to delve into the topics, of which several I intend to acquire.
This book reminded me of my intention to re-learn to enjoy more my life as when I was a kid. My conclusion is that when I experience states of great relaxation, my cognitive and perceptive capacities, ability to enjoy, to be joyful, to interact, to have fellowship, to be creative, to be more effective and efficient, ... is amplified!
I can remember an occasion when I went with my wife to a spa and enjoyed bathing in hot springs, drinking detox infusions, enjoying a massage, ... that left us in a state of relaxation so deep that just looking at us we started to laugh without being able to stop, just for the joy of existing and being together. And we spend the afternoon sharing in a very authentic way, laughing at everything, looking at the world from glasses of joy and benevolence. Wonderful, like when my son was newborn, smiling while asleep totally devoted and confident in the grace to be present innocently.
My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

Disclaimer: I received this book free from Goodreads giveaways in exchange for my honest review.

This book is full of helpful tips on how to better your life, and it is broken up into various categories so that readers can read through the things that may benefit them the most. I work in the mental health field with college students who suffer from mental illness and learning disabilities, and I am excited to share this book with them when they are setting weekly goals as a way to determine what behaviors may be holding them back!

I wouldn't normally pick up a book like this, but I got an advanced reader's copy of it and 2016 has been nothing but stressful so I figured reading it couldn't hurt. I can't say it really did much for me. All the things he mentioned were pretty much well-known things. It didn't really provide any new information or inspiration to me.

description

If you're someone who practically has their life being run by stress, worry, and all the other obstacles the universe likes to throw into the batch then this is a book you need to read.

This book provides many valuable points that many people tend to overlook. As I was reading this book, I found myself analyzing my own life and how it's practically fueled by stress and worry. This was a much needed to be read book for my stressed out self.

STOP! offers a lot of important facts to address stress that a lot of people like to ignore in their lives. Topics like debt, devaluing ourselves, and not taking the time to enjoy the little things in life.

I think this book has probably made the most impact on me with opening my eyes up to the need to make changes in my life. Like the part in the book where talks about doing less is more and not worrying about every little detail.

I think this is definitely a book everyone needs to read. It's definitely a book the provides an outlook differently for each reader and each reader will definitely take something important away from it. I know I certainly have and I'll definitely be making some life changes. So go grab a copy!

Not bad

This book focusses on the little things we all do, that amount to so much in the long run. For example, ignoring our health, impulsive spending, procrastinating (this one, I'm hugely guilty of), talking too much, eating too much, drinking too much. Each small thing incorporates the title, so it'd be "Stop! Worrying too much"

I do think this is a helpful guide, but I didn't learn anything I didn't already know: daydreaming can actually be beneficial; naps are brilliant for combating stress, as is tea, and spending time with nature etc. These are all things I already knew, but keep in mind that I'm a research student so that affects my knowledge. It was because of this sort of repetition of old research, and methods, I gave this book three stars.

What I would say I liked is Eric Parmenter's own experiences, or the people he encountered over the years, and their habits or ways of overcoming bad habits. This gave the book a flavour most other books, of this kind, lack.

There are twenty one chapters in the book, and so twenty chapters are dedicated toward the issues. I favoured Parmenter'swriting prose, and his style of setting out a chapter. Each chapter would begin with a quote, relevant to the issue, we would then get Parmenter's experience with the issue. Then, the number of proven ways to combat the issue and, finally, some reflection questions, for the reader, to ensure they engage with the topic. It was a brilliant approach.

This book is one I will keep revisiting, as one read of it will never be enough.

I received this book through NetGalley.

The publisher was kind enough to provide me with a copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own and honest.

STOP is a book that is exactly how is sounds. It gives a list of 21 main things that we need to stop doing to have a better life. The author breaks the list into specific topics and then explains why we need to stop doing those things and how. There are main references for the research that went into the book and explanations on how these things cause stress and imbalance in our lives. I have read MANY books with the various topics the author talks about and I can honestly say there was nothing that really wowed me. None of these ideas were really new or anything that I didn't know I needed to stop (many I have already stopped). For some people needing a starting point to become more productive in general there may be some good ideas for them, some things they can stop during right now and get started on a better life. But for me there just wasn't anything that stood out. It was definitely a quick and easy read but not one that was groundbreaking in any way.
