Kate has the perfect marriage, a handsome husband and a beautiful new baby - so she is more than a little surprised when one Monday morning Alex announces that he’s leaving. Shocked and distressed at both his absence and his silence, Kate turns to Google for some answers. Why has her husband left and more to the point what can she do to make him come home? Together with her faithful friend Fiona they come up with a strategy to persuade her errant husband to see the light and return to his loving wife. Unfortunately for Kate, even Google doesn’t have all the answers
Julie Butterfield belongs to the rather large group of 'always wanted to write' authors who finally found the time to sit down and put pen to paper - or rather fingers to keyboard. It has to be pointed out that 'Did I mention I won the lottery' is a complete work of fiction and she did not in fact receive millions in her bank account and forget to tell her husband - even though he still asks her every day if she has anything to tell him!
This has to be one of the closest to reality books I've ever read. I can imagine a woman desperate to save her marriage doing a Google search on how to. Not sure I could follow the help that Google was offering though.
Can you imagine working so hard to become the perfect wife and mother, only to be left by your husband because he felt jealous of you putting their nine month old child first?
Well I'm gobsmacked, but also believe this scenario plays out in more marriages than I'd like to think.
This is an amazing book, it gave me everything I look for.
I would have given it 5 stars, but what I can't believe is that Kate even contemplated wanting him back after what he said. Can a woman lose herself to keep a man? Read it, you have to, because I'm sure that a little of Kate resides in all of us.
The idea behind Google Your Husband Back is brilliant, in that after your husband suddenly announces he is leaving you and your 9 month old baby, that you can use google and what the internet advises to work on strategies to get him to come back to you, and to understand all the various reasons why a husband could suddenly do such a thing.
That is certainly what happened in Kate's case, and for large amounts of the book I wanted to throttle her, she was upset, whiny, unable to see reason and very happy to blame herself that her husband had cheated on her. And yet despite the infidelity she was determined that she wanted him back at all costs.
So she and her best friend Fiona come up with a plan of action based on Google, relying on it to guide them in all manner of decisions to how often to call the man, what to wear, to get new hobbies etc... all to get Alex back.
As Kate is though reminiscing about her marriage it becomes very obvious to the reader that she lives in a permanent world of rose tinted glasses, given she views her marriage as perfect and yet I hope I won't be alone in seeing that things may not be at all what they seemed, to the extent that I really started to despise her husband, before he was even a particularly active character.
In fact the main character that I really enjoyed reading was Kate's mum who is a font of all wisdom and also Fiona, the best friend who talks a lot of sense, but also just wants Kate to be happy.
Most of the book is quite amusing and even though I had a prediction on the outcome and truly hoped I would be correct about it, with Kate's sheer determinedness about getting her husband back I had to wonder just which way it would end up.
Thankfully there is some character development and I grew to like Kate a lot more in the second half of the book as the story progressed, and it suddenly became a good story that I was really enjoying.
Thank you Julie Butterfield for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
I so loved this book. It's a light , quick read but at the same time I found it so meaningful. The emotions are so real. Kate's feelings of blaming herself for blaming herself for her husband's affair, and the lighter side of it all, she continually consulted Google as to what she should do to get him back. It was so realistic in that she was the only one who did not see herself and her marriage and her husband clearly. It's like that... everyone around sees it all so clearly and the person involved has blinkers. However.... Google did have some good advice for Kate really, so technology must be given it's due. I loved this book, and I loved Kate too. She is such an earnest character .
I found the heroine SO irritating in her mule headed desire to win her cheating hubby back... but only because I recognised I'd be the same! Refreshing take on a heroine; we all would like to think we'd be giving our errant partner a bobbit cut, however so many, myself included, would yearn to make things better, even to the detriment of our independence.
It was wonderful to follow Kate on her initial journey of heartbreak, loss and denial. Thankfully her memories of her marriage bring both us, the reader, and her, to the realisation of how she has changed herself, all to please her spoilt, immature husband.
Wonderful story of a woman finding herself, when she didn't even know she was lost.
Google Your Husband Back is such a hilarious take on computer love! 💻❤️ Full of good humor and unpredictable twists, this book is a must-read for anyone navigating relationships. 😂📚
The idea was good, but the execution was so poor! I have never read such a poorly edited book with so many punctuation errors and typos before. It gives Kindle publishing a bad name. There's a clue in the title: "An wonderful tale". Spelling "where" as "were" and "a fit of peek" .... laughable.
I was actually intrigued by one of the reviews and having read the book myself I understand her point. This is a beautifully written story of a woman who is desperately in love with her husband and can't bear the thought of losing him. It is so poignant in places that you could believe the author has actually experienced the same thing herself and I was particularly moved by the little flashbacks which showed a young woman prepared to change who she was for a man she loved - who then let her down badly. But it's also an entertaining and at times quite amusing book - I was laughing out loud at some of the advice Kate took from google and it goes to show the lengths some people are driven to try and save a marriage. All round an entertaining read.
The reason i have given this book just 2*is because it was so predictable... The story itself tells of a marital breakdown and the desperate lengths the wife was prepared to go to to win the cheating husband back ....at times i felt sorry for the wife and other times she got on my nerves with her self blaming .Story also showed us the true value of friendship and that life and marriage doesn't always end with roses in the garden .Enjoyed other titles by this author though .
I will do a proper review of this when I'm not on the iPad and it's not a bad book so don't be fooled by the 3* rating. It just really wasn't for me and it wasn't what I expected after her fantastic first book (Did I mention I won the lottery). It's free to borrow if you use Amazon prime so you can decide for yourself but if you didn't read her first one yet get that first it's absolutely awesome.
Kate had me on the edge of my seat, right from page one. The authors strong use of imagery, which flowed beautifully throughout, had me gripped as I became both spectator and confidant entwined. The normality of Kate as a character wove me into her life, and as both her character and story developed, I found myself so engrossed in her relatable life that it became hard not to resonant with her pain, panic and passion.
Will they? Won't they? What would I do? Just some of the questions on my lips throughout...
A down to earth, engaging read, packed with tears, tantrums and rendezvous earns 5🌟throughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.
Okay, so it's not great but it's not bad either. The main character Kate got on my nerves with her constant self blame and I wanted to give her a shake and tell her to open her eyes and her mind and see what a selfish idiot her husband was. Then I had to stop and think would I be any different? I'd like to think I would but who knows. Thank goodness Kate came to her senses in the end. I will look out for other books by this author.
This book was an all nighter. So pulled into story about Kate and Alex. Couldn't figure out how Alex could leave his family as he did. I saw some humor, but story really pulled at the heartstrings. Great, complex storyline and loved Fee and Josh, too. Kate was blessed to have them in her life. Strange how love and life can change. Great story and written well.
I think most people can relate to this book, when someone leaves you broken hearted and how you deal with the heart ache, this book you feel the emotions of Kate as they are your own, Really rooting for her as she starts getting her life back on track slowly getting over the heart ache. Very enjoyable.
I liked this fun yet thoughtful novel by the wonderful Julie Butterfield.
Kate and Alex are interesting characters, both likeable yet frustrating in the way they behave. Well written and as with Julie Butterfield’s other novels is a easy, quick read. Perfect for a few hours on the couch with a good cuppa (or six).
Couldn't put this down.; I wanted to know what would happen next. Great story about how your life can change drastically with no inkling and how you can turn things round by just being yourself and not what you imagine people want you to be.. Great stuff.
I spent much of this book willing Kate to move on without her husband; as the story progresses Alex’s selfish immaturity becomes more and more apparent. I think there’s a bit of Kate in many of us though and I can appreciate her dogged determination. All in all I enjoyed this book.
I enjoyes this book, didnt think I would as its not my usual kind. It kept ne interested. But I would loved to havw hward nore about Kate and Josh new life. Maybe a book 2
This was a very clever book. I am sure that lots of people run their lives through social media. Me I love my fountain pen. Good for Kate coming to her senses. Loved this book.
Chick lit (ish) story without the typical elements of chick lit. Predictable in an unstated way and even brought a tear to my eye in the final pages - for me a testament that I bought into the characters of the story.
Oh my goodness!! This book is one that I can completely see happening. Husband tells his wife he’s leaving her, so she Google’s how go get him back. I have loved it!! The main character had me hooked from the very beginning. Lighthearted, fun and easy read.
It was an alright read but I found it quite serious and I usually prefer funnier books. I also felt we didn't know a lot about the other characters. They were just sort of there.
This was a quick easy light read. It felt like the work of a relatively inexperienced writer but in spite of falling into some cliche traps it was well written and had a plot I enjoyed.
