Too many random characters and actions. Disjointed and hard to follow. It is almost as if the author has many books that could be written but instead put the all together into one huge story. You think you have a handle on it, then something formulaic happens. Russian mob....really? I kept reading hoping it would improve. It didn’t.

What does a detective do, when his son is a murderer?
Detective Gabe Quinn is engaged in finding a series of murders. Attempting to profile and engage the murderer is difficult at best, especially when murders mount. But how does Gabe handle things when the murderer asks to meet after several murders have happened? He goes to the meet, of course, only to find ...Sorry I almost gave something away...that you will have to read to find out! Well worth the read!
Loved books 1-3 but hated that 3 left off with a cliffhanger and book 4 was a waste of time. I’d hoped it filled in some spaces leading up to book one but it was just a short mystery. This series is great-just wish he’d wrapped up storylines before moving on to another series.
One of the best series I have ever read. A very strong lead character. You'll be loving Gabe Quinn within the first few pages. See below my individual reviews of each book. Nothing like picking them all up at the same time and saving some money too. Great deal on an awesome series! Enjoy!
Killing Hope: Gabe Quinn is a fantastic character. He is not perfect, but that is what makes him a great lead in this book. The author lets us into Quinn’s past bit by bit until all is finally revealed and we see what makes this man do what he does. It is easy to see Houghton loves to shock his readers, as there is an ending that is one of the most creative twists I have ever read in a mystery/police thriller. I am hoping this is just the beginning to a long list of Quinn mysteries.
Crossing Lines: Gabe Quinn is back but now he is hiding out from his past in Florida. Unfortunately, murder seems to follow the Celebrity Cop wherever he tries to run. Gabe is pulled into a new murder and soon after, he is called back to help the FBI try to capture his wife’s killer, the Maestro. As with Houghton’s first book, there are twists and turns that will make your head spin, but they all are choreographed so well that they come together at the end to make perfect sense. Again, the ending is one you will never see coming and there are surprises until the very last page. A little slow to get into, but once the action starts, things start happening so fast you will not be able to put it down. The ending definitely left me wanting more.
Taking Liberty: This is a wonderful followup to the first two books in the series. Our favorite detective is back and from the very first page the action starts. The book is filled with typical Houghton style- twists and turns and bad guys taking on Gabe Quinn everywhere he turns. Some new characters show up in this book that add a lot to the mix and really flesh out the story line. If you liked the first two books, you will love this one. It is right on par with the others. You really should read the others before you dive into this one though- there is a lot of back story you would miss otherwise. A great third book in the series and I can't wait for a fourth!
