Spoiled, rich party girl Taffy Belair is in trouble. Again. This time her grandmother is banishing her to a small coastal town in Oregon to clean up her act.
Cut off from familiar luxuries and expected to work and take care of a house and herself, Taffy could care less about fitting into the quirky town of Abandon.
Without her posse of girls or even good coffee, let alone a party scene, she starts stirring up new trouble. Hunky handyman Ethan is a good start. But when she stumbles over a possible murder, Taffy transforms from party girl to amateur detective.
Now she’s getting into more trouble than she ever did back in New York. She’s unearthing secrets and upsetting the locals. Is this quaint seaside enclave really the “Sweetest Town on the Coast,” or is it rotten to the core?
With the help of new friends, Taffy must risk her life to expose a conspiracy and capture a killer before the town’s body count increases by a factor of one stylish blonde (in need of a manicure).
Fans of Stephanie Plum and humorous cozy murder mysteries, don’t miss this hilarious and heartfelt fish-out-of-water mystery starring somewhat-reformed party girl Taffy Belair.
From the first page to the last, I could not stop reading. This is an wonderfully plotted story with unexpected twists and turns that mystery readers will love. Taffy Belair is one spectacular character — smart, cute, fun-loving and adventurous. As the story begins, Taffy, still suffering from the years-ago loss of her mother, is wild and out-of-control with friends who also need to grow up. When Taffy, driving with her drunk female friends flashing other motorists, crashes her Bentley convertible, her grandmother (Nana), who controls all of Taffy’s trust fund money, decides enough is enough. Unless Taffy consents to Nana’s sealed envelope instructions, she will be cut off completely. Taffy agrees, but secretly vows to do all she can to foil Nana’s plans. I won’t spoil the fun by revealing what’s in the envelope, but Taffy’s Nana has thought of everything. The result is that Taffy begins an adventure involving romance, murder and danger. Using newly discovered insight, she uncovers what could be the key to bringing the murderer to justice. As the story progresses, the reader is exposed to twist after surprising twist, revealing that nothing is as it seems. All this progresses to an unforgettable and satisfying conclusion.
This was an enjoyable read. Not my usual fair as I usually read more of a noir gritty mystery but still enjoyable. The main character is basically the rich spoiled brat and is sent away by her grandmother and given a small allowance (much smaller than her usual) to learn a lesson. She is told to stay in a house her grandmother has purchased and in it, the previous resident has died. As soon as she arrived, she has the inkling something is not right and the death may not have been accidental. There is the typical romantic side-plot as well. What I did find enjoyable about this was it wasn't a typical story. I find after reading a hundred or so 'cozy mysteries' that they have a basic plot told in several ways. This has a fresh plot. It may have some predictable points and a couple "yeah I saw that coming" moments but overall, it was engaging and well-written. I can't say I'm eager to read another story with Taffy as the lead as she just a little too sweet and cheery for my tastes but I did enjoy the book for what it was - something fresh and different than my usual fare. 3/5
I really enjoyed this story. It was very light-hearted and fun.
Taffy was sent away by her grandmother to get her life in order and to basically become an adult. She winds up in a town called Abandon. Taffy thought that she would be able to do what she needed to do and get out but alas that was not the case. There is more to the town than she thought and that is when the adventure begins. I liked going on the ride with Taffy as she tries to solve this murder mystery. The characters were definitely intriguing. As the story goes on, I felt just like Taffy as I was putting all the pieces together. This was a good story and Dana really kept me interested until the end. This is an easy read for a lazy summer day and when you want something fun. Interested to see what’s next.
I really love the 'fish out of water' sort of book, especially when its done this well. There's humour, a little violence, well written characters who are fun and likeable, a small town setting which is also a plus for me and an intriguing mystery to solve.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

My Review:
A quick read with characters that capture your attention from the start. When her grandmother put's her foot down she does so with a vengeance. Tired of seeing her beloved granddaughter constantly taking the wrong path, she decides to show her a little tough love. Taffy has grown up with a platinum spoon in her mouth when her grandmother snatches it out and hands her a plastic one instead. Gone are the parties, mansion, hauteur couture, maids and manicures. Taffy Belaire now lives in a simple home and has a job to support her (no allowance for her).
This is a humorous story that will have you in stitches at times. I quickly came to adore Taffy. She is learning to stand on her own, even though she lands on her tail bone a time or two. As you read her story you will not want it to end. Fortunately for us the next installment is available in a few weeks (Feb 6, 2017). "Sweet Taffy and Murder" has a well written plot, that move fast and smoothly. Dana Moss' descriptive writing draws a picture in the mind of the reader. I rated this novel 4.75 out of 5 stars. For a first in a series it is a blast to read. I look forward to reading "Sweet Taffy and the Marshmallow Murder" soon.
Sweet Taffy and Murder by Dana Moss Now this one had it all. Loved this book from beginning to end. The characters were well drawn and interesting. You even cared for the cooks until you found out that they were the crooks. The tensions between people were palpable. The feelings of the individuals were so interesting and deeply concerning. Such that they almost booked tears to my eyes. The plot was convoluted enough to keep things going but again, and one of my pet loves, is the plot only tended to give more excitement and credence to the characters. The characters were the main part of this book and they were fabulous. I would have liked to have seen more evocative descriptions of the people and the places, though. There was a lot going on and in some cases it appeared to go on in an imaginative sense but not in a real place. Atmospheric descriptions might have been one area for improvement. The twists and turns, about three chapters from the end, had me wishing that the story would go on for ever. But it was so deftly tied up that I was happy to let it go and just think about what I had read. Very well done Dana, and I will be looking forward to reading the second one in the series. Thank you very much
Taffy's nana has had it with her granddaughter and also her son. Taffy is a rich spoiled party girl who does not have any idea of how to get along in the real world and her father is a rock star that is losing his appeal by drinking (which Taffy has a problem with also) and dating want-a-be singers younger than his daughter. Nana pulls the rug out from both of them sending them in different directions. We are not told exactly where daddy goes; but, Taffy is sent out west having her luxury apartment lose its lease and arriving there to find all of her possessions being taken away and put into storage. All that is left for her is one suitcase and a carry on bag, $500 in cash and a ticket to her new destination. All of her credit cards are deactivated. She arrives at her new home, unable to get in as she does not have a key she climbs in through the kitchen window and is so tired she sleeps in the first bed she comes to. Getting up she finds the markings of a body on the floor, the house does not have electricity and when she goes to get it turned on $350 of her money is spent to get the electricity turned on. She goes to see the lawyer her nana set her up with and finds out that she has a job set up for her at the local candy factory. She is now Taffy the sweet elf. The rest of the book includes looking for a murder, having two suitors, making "real" friends among whom one is a former FBI agent and helping solve several crimes. I am looking forward to the next book.
I am pretty torn over this one, to be honest. I read the first few pages and was ready to skip through to the end. But then it got better. And better. After 2/3 I was starting to look for more books in the series, albeit hesitantly. Then came the end. And now here I am, undecided if I want to invest more time into this series or not ... What I like? Well, it's a typical Cozy, the characters, some with a bit of a rocky start, are okay. Taffy, first quite a snobbish bitch, turns quickly into a sensible and sufferable prota. But that is part of the problem: while I'm all for that change, it comes in a speed that is a bit too fast for me to buy it. Same with other characters. The case first drags and drags, then suddenly it's banging one after the other. And the solution to it ... a bit stretching the imagination. Overall, it's a bit too long, there's a lot that could be shortened or be presented with more show and less telling. And it needs editing. The Kindle version I had wasn't very friendly to the eye. So what now? I don't know. I think I first read the other unread books on my shelve. Maybe my curiosity will be stronger than my doubts. Time will tell.
I received a copy from Netgalley and somewhere along the way I also bought a copy from Amazon. This review is based on the copy I received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the novel beginning to the story explaining how Taffy ends up in Abandon, Oregon. I was a bit worried that her party girl persona would impact the rest of the story strongly. It's not a persona I enjoy having in a main character. Luckily, she's not as vapid as I was thinking she'd be, instead her change to a thoughtful, contributing member of society is a bit unrealistically fast. There are a lot of thigs you have to just accept in this story though almost all the coincidences are explained by the end. (Except why doesn't Taffy have her father's last name and why does Nana seemingly support her son in law after she apparently raised Taffy???)
The story is a light, fluffy (popcorn) cozy type of read, yet it has a complete mystery storyline. Could have used some more world building to make it a bit more solid.
The story kept me interested and left me interested to see what happens next for Taffy.
This is the first in the series and the first time reading this author. The main character is Taffy. Taffy's lived with her Nana and being a spoiled rich kid seemed to be in trouble a lot. Nana decides to send her away and teach her what life is really like. Much to everyone's surprise, Taffy loves it there but almost gets killed trying to figure out who killed Janet the owner of the house she is living in. When Nana hears all this, she wants Taffy to come home. Nana ends up flying out there when Taffy is on the plane home but by then Taffy has it all figured out. There are a lot of twists and turns and I was surprised to read who did it. Looking forward to the next in the series.
When her Nana cuts off her money, repossesses her furniture, car and only let's her pack one case, she knows that she has pushed her too far. With a ticket to a small town and a rental car she makes her way to where her Nana has sent her. Only to find that the house she has been given had a death only a few weeks ago and that she must now work at the local candy factory. Was the death really accidental? Mix in embezzlement, kidnapping, attempted murder, murder, arson and the mob for a read that is terrific. Will she survive her sleuthing? The heroine is tenacious and a pit bull once she has the bit between her teeth. The hero is an ex-FBI park ranger with supporting characters that you will love.
I enjoyed reading this story. It was interesting, and kept you guessing. I found the characters to be more than one dimensional and they all offered something to the story. Including Midnight.
Taffy is sent from her New York socialite existence to a small town, expected to find a job, and work. She discovers a body outline on the floor of the house in which she spent the night. A great way to start her banishment from her spoiled existence in New York. She also had to work for any money she spent. She discovers two potential murders and has trouble being believed as a serious person. A good read, one which has twists and turns and keeps the reader's attention. I received a complimentary copy of the and a m writing an honest review.
This is an awesome story, well written and an amazing storyline. It involves a self centered rich girl who is banished to a small town by her grandmother and is jolted into reality. The ensuing story is incredible !!
My daughter asked for the book and I started reading it to just check that it's age appropriate. I ended up reading the whole thing. It's well written. Short fast paced chapters give a sense of things happening quickly. Some good character development in the main character.
Taffy is going to have to grow up fast and take responsibility for her actions… and learn how to live like the rest of the world, paycheck to paycheck. She’s a spoiled, entitled, rich little … female who has finally gotten on her Nana’s last nerve. One last drunken escapade with her equally drunk friends and her loving grandmother has put down the law, clean up your act or be cut off. And Nana’s not joking around as she puts words into actions instantly. It’s time for this little spoiled brat to wake up and learn how to make it on her own.
Finally arriving in Abandon, Oregon after a day from her worst nightmares, Taffy has to break into the house she’s been sent to stay at. Falling asleep almost immediately she’ll wake up to some difficult truths about not only her situation but where she lives as well. There’s crime tape across her front door and the chalk outline of a body on the living room floor – what in the world has her Nana sent her into?
Sweet Taffy and Murder is a humorous, lighthearted cozy mystery that will grab your attention, as well as you sense of humor. While murder is never funny, watching our little rich girl adjust to real life while trying to puzzle out the former owner of her home’s death bring about some chuckle worthy moments, some shady characters, and more intrigue and shady dealings in this small town than most of New York City where Taffy would prefer to be right now.
To say too much about this mystery would be giving spoilers, and especially with a murder mystery that’s something I don’t want to do. You’ll find lots of clues scattered about, some people who definitely shouldn’t be trusted and plot twists that you may not see coming. It was an absolute joyride of a story, and I completely enjoyed myself in Taffy’s world.
If you love mysteries, cozy mysteries, then I’d definitely recommend Sweet Taffy and Murder for any Mystery reader. Tight plots, interesting characters and a delightful cast of secondary characters to pick out the good guys and the bad guys from. Enjoy figuring out this “who did it”.

Sweet Taffy and Murder is the first book in the Sweet Taffy Cozy Mysteries series written by Dana Moss. The author combined an interesting mystery with lots of twists and turns, relatable characters, and humor. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.
Taffy Belair, a spoiled rich girl from New York, and is quite shocked when her grandmother, Nana, decides it’s time to practice Tough Love. She takes away her car, apartment, most of her clothes, cancels her credit cards, and gives her a one-way ticket to the small coastal town of Abandon, Oregon. When she arrives at the dilapidated house she’s supposed to live in, she discovers that a woman, Janet Harkin, died in the house. Taffy becomes friends with Ethan (a local park ranger and neighbor), Maria (a police officer), and Ellie (a co-worker at the candy factory). The police ruled the death accidental but Taffy doesn’t agree and starts looking into matters on her own even though Lieutenant Maria Salinas says she doesn’t want her help. Taffy ends up in danger and Nana wants her to return to New York but Taffy is determined to see things through to the end.

Rarely do you find a 'first in new series' novel that you truly feel is worth five stars...I just did! My only complaint is that I finished the book. I could have read on and on. Ms. Moss is a great writer and I was pleased to see she will be following up with this series.
Taffy Belair is a pampered daughter of a rock star who has lost his glamour. Taffy runs around with a group of so-called friends that do nothing more than lead her into trouble, although truthfully speaking, Taffy is easily lead.
Father has lost his way. Taffy's mother, Ellen died thirteen years prior when Taffy was twelve. Dad couldn't keep it together and off he went. Who took care of Taffy? Her extremely wealthy Grandmother, Nana.
But, Nana has had it. Now, in my opinion, Nana took things too far, but, the story was hilarious. I also shared Taffy's feeling upon discovering a chalk outline with blood in her new 'foyer.' Yikes! I would have screamed as well.
I liked Taffy immediately and she was not drawn sickenly sweet. Her new job was a hoot and not overdone. Ms. Moss has a sense of balance that is often neglected in new series.
I truly loved this cozy novel and will eagerly await the next installment.
Sweet Taffy and Murder by Dana Moss is the 1st book in the Sweet Taffy cozy mystery series, and I loved it. Taffy Belair is a spoiled rich girl who live in New York City supported by her grandmother. Finally her grandmother had enough and and takes away everything, clothes, car, apartment and cancels her credit cards. Then sends her to Abandon, Oregon to live and work in a candy factory.
I love the transformation Taffy does from the beginning of the book until the end. Not only is this book really funny, it has a great mystery. There are twists and turns around every corner. Just when I thought I figured out who the murderer was, I was wrong. I found this book to be a quick read, with well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love humorous cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book.
I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was a fun, easy to read cozy mystery with some edgier moments and a fairly complex plot and mystery. Even though I had some ideas about what was going on, it kept me guessing until the end and had a satisfying conclusion.
Taffy Belair was an interesting and different type of protagonist from the general run of cozies. She's a young, rich and quite helpless socialite thrown into a situation she doesn't want to be in. This made for some great dialogue exchanges as well as good character growth through the book. The supporting cast of characters were quirky and fun.
The plot and mystery had more twists and complexity than I initially expected and kept me reading "just one more chapter". Entertaining throughout, a great debut series that I will be following.
*Thanks to Netgalley/the author for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an unbiased review.*
Sweet Taffy And Murder is a rollicking romp. This cozy starts out with a spoiled rich girl partying with friends in New York City. Her grandmother sends her away to a small town in Oregon, to her friend Janet, hoping she'll realize that she's wasting her life. However Gram was unaware that Janet was dead. The condition of the property,Taffy's reactions to it and the job she was thrown into at the candy factory are humorous and her attraction to her neighbor Ethan, adds a bit of sweet romance. Taffy adds up the things that don't add up and realizes Janet was murdered. She along with Ethan and Maria comb through the clues to find out who and why to solve not only Janet's, but Herbert Swain's and the attempts on Taffy. Dana Moss' work is new to me, but I will watch for more in this new series. I received a free ARC copy for my honest opinion.
Enjoyable and fun, can't wait for the next installment! Great cozy mystery, full of suspense and funny situations. Taffy is sent to a small town as a way to force her to clean up her act, she is young and with lots of money and live life without a care, being reckless and ending up at the police station ever so often. Her Nana is set on tough love and cuts her off her money for three months and sets her up in a house and a job at a Candy factory. What is there to do when you find yourself in a house where an unlikely accident kills the previous owner, and all seems to point to murder; Even the yellow tape from the police is still there when Taffy arrives.

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Sweet Taffy Mystery series written by Dana Moss. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I found this book while looking for a story to read through Amazon's lending library. I have never read Dana Moss' work before, but I'm happy that I did. Taffy, the spoiled little rich girl, has a lot of adventures coming her way. Moving from NYC to small town Oregon, against her will, is just the beginning. Murder, romance, and intrigue are all possible in Taffy's new life. I recommend this book to all cozy mystery fans. I hope to read the next book in this series.
The beginning of the book was a bit slow and I felt like the story would not interest me. I was very wrong. Once Taffy went to Oregon, the story moved at a steady pace and the mystery kept me guessing until the very end. I enjoyed all the twists and turns and I would definitely read more in the series.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review.
This is a humorous new cozy series that has a rich socialite banished to small town Oregon after another arrest for drunk and disorderly. When Grandmother speaks you listen. The murder mystery is a good one and the supporting cast of town folk are interesting and full of unexpected surprises. This appears to be Dana Moss's first book and she did a great job creating a good story to begin this new series. I liked her writing style and look forward to her next book.
This was a 'feel good' kind of book. It was cute and sweet and entertaining. A sugary book young girls should read in their teens. Tasteful and southern sweet. I was a bit surprised at the ending and I never could have guessed who did it. Actually fast paced in the end and left me not wanting to stop reading. The book left me with a real good feeling when it was over. Thanks for the good read.
