Deception Peak- book one in the Ian's Realm series, is an amazing book about a son and a father who get transported into a new realm, through their computer! Filled with science fiction and fantasy magic, Deception Peak brings vivid descriptive details of an amazing new realm that will have readers hooked from the very start. Author Dianne Gardner creates for the reader an amazing new land with majestic wild horses, untouched woods and streams, peaceful beaches, and a very foreboding mountain in the background that will have every reader's imagination soaring! But how did Ian's computer suddenly become capable of transporting them into this amazing new land in the first place. Will they ever get out? Ian gets kidnapped while trying to save his dad on the mountain, will he ever find him again? Yeah, and then he finds out there is a dragon! Read this book for answers to all of these questions and... the biggest adventure ever!

I really enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure story!

Dianne Gardner’s Ian’s Realm trilogy takes a modern-day teen and transports him to a world where heroes might be nurtured from the wisdom of past mistakes, valor learned in battles won and lost, and kindness born of pain. Ian steps forward to take his father’s place, and learns that being a leader, here or on earth, is a complicated task.

Middle-grade readers will quickly identify with the characters. Boy-friendly fiction with teen male protagonists who don’t understand what girls mean; girl-friendly fiction with female protagonists who choose their own paths and argue their own causes; a nice combination of swords and sorcery with the real world’s computer screen; and there's even a dragon!

Heroes come in many shapes, both in the real world and in Ian’s Realm. What makes a dad, or a warrior? How can love linger on in the face of loss? How can enemies be forgiven? And how can a boy know how he wants to spend his adult life? There’s a beauty to this tale and its telling. There’s wisdom in the characters’ growth. And there’s a delightful, satisfying symmetry to the journey’s end. A cool trilogy—it’s great to see the stories all told together.

Disclosure: I read these books earlier and re-reading is fun.

What a ride!!

I really enjoyed the ride this took me on, very well written and easy to get sucked into The Realm too. The entire trilogy I was rooting for Ian to STAY in the Realm with Abbi!!

I had been meaning to get the first book of the series for some time, so was thrilled when there was a chance for me to work on narrating the audiobook. I am not done recording and processing the tracks, but I do want to give my review of the book itself. I have both the pdf copy that I was provided for narration and my son owns a print copy that is in his special books collection.

This is a book that deals with several areas. In part it is a coming of age story. Ian steps into a computer realm that we later find out might not truly be "just" a computer game realm at all, but a full alternate world. In one book he loses his father, in another he regains him. He has lived the life of an orphan who at least had the family of a friend that could take him in. He knows of love and losing love. More importantly though, in my view, this is an adventure wherein a boy not only grows into a physical man and progresses well on his way to being an actual mental man. It is a book of problem solving and strategy, showing in practice keys to arm our children with that will help them become adults themselves.

I look forward to finishing up the narration of this and feel honored that I get to be part of the audiobook project. I will also be looking to get later books in the series as Ian, Xylon, Abbi, and The Realm have captured me, making me want to know "what happens next?"

READ IT TO BELIEVE IT!!!
This is an incredible journey where you follow the characters through all the ups and downs. As well as in and outs, these characters face obsticals they never dreamed of. You're in so deep, your biting your nails through the terror. Cry when its sad and face challenges that will rock your world. I have to admit the more I read of D's amazing work, the more I come to respect her incredible ability to bring these scenes to life. I would recommend this read to everyone who loves the unexpected.

Invigorating

This trilogy captured my attention from the very beginning as it brought the characters to life. Ian, Abbi, Alex, Brandon and Allysa were your everyday teenagers looking for excitement in an otherwise humdrum life. The story kept me interested and wanting more. I can't wait to get the rest of the series to learn how these young people fair in the future.

Singing and Healing

This book is very exciting. Edge of your seat stuff. There is a little humor, a little romance, and a lot of swashbuckling drama. You are going to love it. Oh and I forgot dragons and magic too.

Dragon in the Portal!

Ian has a dad who yearns for adventure. When a portal opens to another world, he takes Ian with him to explore. This place looks peaceful, but is anything else. Friends, enemies, battles, dragons and magic all intertwine.

Easily wins the WORST book I've read this year award.
This book had a promising story line, but fell so far short that I'm surprised I even finished it.
First it needed a good editing prior to publishing. There were numerous errors in the text. But that's not what makes me give it a 1 star rating (which I hate doing). The story was so ridiculous; in the way the characters interacted with each other, the dialog used between them, and how the story unfolds. It was such a disappointing read. You never get explanations for a lot that has happened in the book or why certain characters behave the way they do. The character development is poor and the story is undeveloped.
I can't recommend this book. It was a total waste of my time.

this is a three book series with a twist. we go from a perfectly modern household with one father and one son, both computer geeks who write code and invent computer games. one day it appears that they are able to go into their game. and boy is it an exciting world. we have a dragon who controls the lives of part of the humans, a warrior class of humans who want to destroy the dragon and everything in between. Ian is kidnapped, his father is tormented by evil. When they are reunited, his father forces him to return home while he fights the dragon. three years later Ian returns to the realm to find his father and join in the war. i loved this book series and highly recommend it to anyone that likes dragons, excitement and adventure.
i received a free copy of this book and chose to review the book
