The Proposal Planner

Rate this book
From debut author Madison Score comes a new adult mystery novel.

Young, energetic, and successful, Claire Hartley has made a name for herself making other girls’ dreams come true. As the city’s prime proposal planner, she has it all: an in-demand business that turns custom marriage proposals into guaranteed yeses, a crazy circle of friends, and the love of her life, her sweet rescue Corgi, Rosie.

She’s making shelf space for yet another Proposal Planner of the Year award. But things start to unravel when the competition decides to play dirty and Claire finds herself in the sights of a potential killer.

On her to do list:
1. Pull off the top-secret proposal of the century
2. Keep a professional distance from a certain sexy, narcissistic filmmaker
3. Avoid becoming the next target of a deranged killer

Add to the mix too many margaritas with the girls, a mother convinced Claire’s safer in a bubble, and did we mention that hunky filmmaker? All Claire wants is to make it through proposal season with a string of satisfied clients … and her life.

Madison Score is the author of the Claire Hartley Accidental Mystery series (and the younger, weirder sister of Lucy Score.) She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, son, and perpetually-shedding corgi. For some reason her parents allowed her to get a degree in Creative Writing, which she now utilizes to craft stories with comedy, romance, and sometimes a hefty dose of crime.

When she’s not writing or chasing after her tornado of a toddler (seriously, how many times can he upend our rubber tree?) you can find her blatantly ignoring recipes in the kitchen, flailing her body around in the gym, or bingeing true crime podcasts, TV, and movies.

Follow her on Facebook and Instagram if you want to see an excess of poorly-photographed foods during her weekly Madison Tries It segment.

So funny! Perfect amounts of hilarity and danger and I love any book with a rescue dog in it. Claire's a proposal planner who has earned the nickname The Mistress of Yes. She runs a business helping fiances-to-be plan the perfect proposal. But things get sticky when she has to work with a hot, jerk of a filmmaker who seems to be hiding something and the serial killer that the police don't want to admit exists breaks into her apartment and threatens her... and little Rosie the corgi. Throw in the perfect biyatch of a nemesis who tries to thwart her business success and Claire's hilarious ensemble of friends--the drunk scene at the club??--and I laughed my way through the entire book.
P.S. My sister wrote this book! Thankfully I loved it, otherwise Thanksgiving would be really awkward.

I couldn't finish it. The main character seemed too unbelievably one-dimensional. The love interest was just needlessly rude, bordering on potential abuse. The prose was only okay, and that just wasn't enough to hold me.

Good mystery, but too muddled with unnecessary details for me.

Proposed Chaos!

Claire's business of planning proposal events is getting to be big business. She and Mindy are busy around the clock, but they find time for fun, too. Her arch nemesis is busy stealing her now ex and trying to cause her trouble, but Wendy's not quite smart enough to do it well. A new photographer is adding great ideas to the events business-wise and putting ideas into Claire's head on her own time. Luke has a wonderful touch with all things business related and plays a mean video game as well, Claire still beat him. Meanwhile young newly married women are disappearing and it seems they went to Claire's college. Then Claire gets some flowers without a card. She thinks they're from her ex as an apology, by Luke isn't so sure. If this sounds confusing, it is. These young 20-somethings are running around from one place to another constantly on the go whether for business or pleasure. Half the time they are still acting as if they're in college rather than as business owners. The author actually does a great job in her debut novel of pulling this all off. You just see much more off the play than the hard work.
Then we add in the element of the disappearances and things get very different. It seems as if no one is paying them much attention. At least not until Claire gets involved, of course. Then we're in it up to our eyeballs. And, surprise! Guess who? Recommended

I picked up The Proposal Planner to read over a holiday weekend; and it didn’t disappoint. I loved this lighthearted romantic suspense, the characters were well developed and I definitely did not see the “villain” coming.
Claire is a Wedding Proposal Planner and I found her company and services quite intriguing. She lives on her own with her sweet corgi Rosie and spends her days making couples’ dreams come true.
Luke is returning home to East Coast after serving in the Navy to pursue his interest in film making and investigative journalism.
Luke and Claire meet through a mutual friend and become business associates, when Luke assists as film director and videographer for Claire’s company.
Together they’ll face a serial killer threatening their small town and while pursuing leads they’ll also realize there may be romantic feelings involved.
We get to meet Claire’s best friends and associates, as well as her mother and local residents. We get to witness several fairy tale and high adrenaline proposals, and ultimately the dramatic conclusion of the criminal case.
This was a great and captivating story and I’d definitely recommend!

Cozy Romcom Mystery

A mystery involving a serial killer, the beginning of a romance and several proposals. I enjoyed this debut novel and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the multiple arrive proposal extravaganzas especially how touching the last proposal was. I did not guess who the serial killer was so kudos!

Pretty good for the first book in a series. I definitely interested in the next book or two. The mystery was very intriguing, the characters were likeable, and the corgi addition was nice.
