Photography Demystified—Your Guide to the World of Travel Photography—How to Explore, See, and Photograph the World is a book written for those that love to travel, explore, adventure, and photograph.
Many photographers wanting to embark on a photographic adventure are not sure where exactly to begin. Often they find themselves asking not only photography technique questions but also seeking practical advice—How should I pack my gear? What’s the best way to take my cameras and equipment on an airplane safely? What about getting through security in a foreign country, how does that work? And other questions related to traveling and carrying photography equipment.

Photography Demystified—Your Guide to the World of Travel Photography—How to Explore, See, and Photograph the World is a dedicated to giving you practical advice, so you can get the most out of your travel photography experience. This book will help you and your gear get to your destination/s practically and safely. I present what I have learned through years of travel and leading photographic tours. Additionally, the travel photographer will receive specific insight into creating photographs of their travels that are both stunning and captivating, in terms of the stories they tell.

Along with my wife, Ally, I own McKay Photography Academy. I have taught over 12 thousand people, just like you, photography. For the past five years, I have also led hundreds of beginning photographers and photo enthusiasts on photographic tours around the world—to Cuba, Europe, Tanzania, and Iceland—among many other places. With that experience, I am able to bring you knowledge that sometimes I have had to learn the hard way. These insights alone will save you hours of frustration and will help to make sure your photographic travel experiences live up to everything you dream of.

Having earned the titles of Master of Photography and Master of Photographic Craftsmen from Professional Photographers of America, the leading photography organization in the world, I have been a full-time professional photographer for over twenty-nine years and am passionate about teaching others how to achieve great results in their photography. My heart’s aim is to see that everyone can enjoy photography and to take the frustration out of the process!

The photographic education, tips, and travel knowledge you are about to read are proven methods to help people create the finest photographs of their travels. Take control of your photographic journey right now, make it productive, and enjoy the results of capturing the travel photographs you always dreamed of.

For those that have not yet read my first two international best-selling books in the Photography Demystified series, I would highly recommend doing so, unless you already have a firm grasp of manual settings and an understanding of light. Even if you do, I believe there is some valuable information for everyone and all levels of photographers in those first two books.

While my first two books are by no means required in order to enjoy and gain valuable knowledge from this book, you will get the most out of this third book in the series, and in your travel photography, by understanding how to use manual settings on your camera system as well as other aspects of photography, such as working with light, that are foundational to creating amazing photographs. These are all taught in my first book Photography Demystified—Your Guide to Gaining Creative Control and Taking Amazing Photographs.

It is my sincere hope that after reading this book as well as my others, you once again feel my passion for travel and photography, become more confident in your abilities, and are ready more than ever before to create amazing photographs of your journey!

There are a few very useful sections but so much of this is either promoting the author's business or stating the obvious, as in telling you how to dress for cold weather. I learned from about 10% of this book and the rest was unnecessary.

Travel Photography in a Nutshell

It is hard to touch on the many considerations of travel and photography. David McKay is able to be as comprehensive as possible with great tips.

Maybe the first book, which really explained me aperture-shutter-iso triangle. I expected a more photo focused book, forcing on the photo tools, methods etc. , but surprisingly it was a more traveller and observer book. I like it. Photo-traveler tips. David Mc Kay has business around the photos, so the book is also promotion for his company, courses, for his photo-travel agency, which I like less.

Remember, when it comes to travel photography, be a traveler first and photographer second. In this way, you will not miss all the incredible aspects of the moment, which will help “feed” your inspiration and photography.
