The brilliantly funny, and romantically moving new novel from number-one-bestselling author of No-One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday. Couples who dance together stay together... or do they? Laura loves it when Tom takes her for a late night tango around the kitchen after their friends have gone home and they’re avoiding the washing up. She can’t dance but who cares when no one is watching? All that changes when Tom arrives on the doorstep with Carly, a professional dancer, and announces he’s offered her the spare room to rent while she performs in a show that Tom is directing. An outraged Laura doesn’t feel like dancing with Tom anymore but Carly does. It only takes two to tango, and given Tom’s history who knows where it could end? Will Laura be the one left watching from the sidelines whilst Carly waltzes off with her husband’s heart? Couples who dance together stay together – or do they?

I love Tracy Bloom's "No-one ever has sex"- series. It's absolutely hilarious and the characters are very much true to life. I was hoping to find something similar here. While there were still some funny moments, I found two of the female characters, Laura and Hannah, extremely annoying. So much whinging and whining! They seemed insistent on creating problems for themselves that could easily be avoided. The story is well written and kept my attention throughout, not a bad read by any means. But my enjoyment was marred by my dislike of those two characters.

Strictly My Husband had me giggling right from the start and kept me thoroughly entertained for the duration of its amusing story. Written from a variety of view points, there are the five friends/relations that get together on a regular basis, and then there is the newcomer to the group.

Carly is the focal person in the story, and yet all we know about her is from everyone else's points of view. She is a talented dancer who Tom has decided to take pity on and let lodge in his house, while she performs in the Halloween show, Tom is putting on at Wonderland. What Tom neglects to do is mention Carly to his wife before they arrive home together, and as a result Laura, is suspicious from the start about Carly.

Laura is a market research analyst, and we do get to see some funny market research focus groups occur, who is married to Tom a dancer, and now head of Entertainment at Wonderland. Laura has a very analytical mind, and manages to convince herself that by the end of the run of this month long show, that Tom will have cheated on her.

Then there is Laura's friend Hannah, who just doesn't seem as interested in her husband Jerry as she used to be. Jerry is a larger than life bloke who has barrels of enthusiasm for everything, but doesn't always follow his ideas through. I loved the scene with the 7 foot inflatable crocodile, as well as his transformation as the book progressed.

There is a strong dance theme running through the book, with Laura and Tom being big fans of Strictly, in addition to the Halloween show being produced, that is called Malice in Wonderland, and is a zany, spooky, scary take on Alice in Wonderland, with big production numbers, but Tom explains his concept better than I can in the book!

Amy is Tom's assistant, but she is one of the stand out characters in the book, she is not big on park policy, and makes it clear to everyone her thoughts. She is strong willed, and not afraid to speak her mind, and some of her explanations to people as she "corrects" them, or "informs them" of something had me laughing out loud.

There is a lot of fun to be had in Tracy Blooms latest book, that feels as though it should be a big hit. It has her typical comedic timing, some down to earth characters that are relatable too, and some memorable scenes. Occasionally Laura's pontificating was driving me slightly mad, but I could completely understand where she was coming from, and some of her arguments to try and persuade herself she is correct do make a great deal of sense.

Utterly enjoyable novel that will get you in the mood for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Thank you to Lawsome Book and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

I was probably one of the first to download "Strictly My Husband" from NetGalley - I am a huge fan of Tracy Bloom, her writing and her stories and her special sense of humour and every new release from this author is for me like Christmas coming earlier. However, I was sure that the publication date is only in September, hence my late review and I apologise heartily for this delay.

The story is told from all the characters' points of view, which, as you already know, I always like, as I love to get to know ALL the thoughts and what people are thinking about the same situations. However, what is interesting, it is Carly who brought on this earthquake, yet we only know what other people think about her, as we don't get her own view point - and I'm not sure if it was done deliberately or not but I still have a feeling that I didn't know her and didn't know her real intentions in this whole situation. But no matter, if my husband brought a young, sexy woman home and introduced her as a new lodger, I'd be, just like Laura, suspicious. And well, I am not sure what I'd do with Tom if her were my husband. Luckily, my own personal husband wouldn't think of such action but I'm sure he belongs to the minority in this aspect and I think mostly men wouldn't think long and do as Tom did. Well, helloooo, such an opportunity, right? But Tom, well, just your typical man, right, we hope they know what we mean but in fact we just need to tell them directly and clearly what it is that we think/want/feel.
What bothered me a little was Laura's friend, Hannah. I had a feeling there is nothing that could interest her and her never - ending unhappiness with her marriage was overwhelming, and I truly didn't understand what's her problem. Sure, Jerry was irritating and annoying, with a lot of enthusiasm, ideas and money that could realise those ideas, not always the best ones, but if she was so unhappy, then why didn't finish it, sooner rather or later? Truly, I liked Jerry much more than Hannah, even though he was annoying, but he was also funny and he tried with Hannah. But to be honest, all the women in this book had problems, actually the problems were not worth so much troubles, but you know how it is, right. Laura, for example, with her analytical brain, somehow convinced herself that Tom will cheat on her soon. And with this obsession of hers, yes, there were moments that I wanted to shake her, or bang her head together with Tom's head, she just made me feel so, so desperate. Yes, I know where she was coming from and I could understand her but there were also moments that I couldn't stand her for assuming and not asking. So yes, the female characters were a little difficult to understand, and to like, but altogether they were colourful and easy to follow, if only they could - Laura and Hannah - stop moaning and be so unhappy all the time, it would be great. And maybe it's insignificant, but I adored the fact that the two best friends were called Tom and Jerry :) And you know, the book is really full of brilliant characters, not only the main ones, but also the background, and I can't mention Amy here, Tom's assistant. I adored her, and each scene with her made me laugh out loud - she was so strong - willed and she didn't fear to say what she thinks and everybody were scared of her!

I absolutely loved the Halloween show that Tom was directing and Carly was playing the leading role, Malice in Wonderland - it was a great idea and it looked like a great fun. Altogether, there were many mentions of the "Strictly" program, a lot of dancing an arty - things but they fit the story totally and this, together with Laura's analytical brain and some brilliant scenes of her research being done, were brilliantly balanced.

So no matter what, Tracy Bloom's books, so also "Strictly My Husband", always make me feel better and make me giggle almost all the time when reading them . As always, the book was full of brilliant characters and even more brilliant one liners, and Tracy Bloom's sense of humour is fantastic. The book seamlessly and effortlessly introduces us to a life of mismatched couples, friendship and misunderstandings and it also shows us that it's important to talk and to know what it is you want from yourself and from your life. A funny and romantic story, and even though I don't watch "Strictly" (ARRRRGH!!!), I truly enjoyed it. Another light - hearted, clever and thought - provoking read from Tracy Bloom.

I like Tracy Bloom books and although I have only rated this 3/5 it was still a good read. The problem I had with this book was Laura, the main character! Laura is married to the handsome Tom and her life is ticking along like normal. However, when Tom brings home a professional dancer Carly to rent their room things start to go rapidly downhill for Laura.

Laura and Tom are very readable and along with them we meet their married friends Jerry and Hannah as well as Tom's brother Will. Jerry was without a doubt the star of the show for me and was hilarious, full of life and completely over the top. However, Laura just grated on me from start to finish. The woman never stopped moaning and to be honest I just didn't like her. That's my main reason for the 3 star rating. Laura, Tom, Carly, and the other characters were great. They were all easily read, humorous and swept the story along. However, every time Laura got on the phone to Hannah to moan I could almost feel the switch in my brain starting to turn off.

Pushing that to one side, Tracy Bloom has a great balance between humour and storytelling and there is an easy flow to her books which makes them very readable. I feel like Jerry should make a return in future books as I would have loved to have read more about his adventures following the end of this book. Overall certainly not a bad read, but marred by my dislike for the main character.

I am a fan of Tracy Bloom's sense of humour and books. This was not as funny as some of her other work but it is still an enjoyable read. I liked the supporting characters more than the main characters, particularly Will, Hannah and Amy who I felt stole the show. The main characters were less decisive and tended to make problems for themselves unnecessarily. I enjoyed the odd funny moment and will definitely read more of Tracy Bloom's books.

Thank god I finally finished it. Normally I love reading the authors books but I really struggled to get into this one and why it took me so long to read it, having always ditched it and read something better instead.

I loved this book!

It's all about insecurities in marriage but with humor. It's fun. Not that insecurities are fun, but it was written with a light touch. I just wish we could have seen Carly's point of view. It would have been interesting to see what she thought of her landlords.

Great book trying to see which way the husband chooses. Great look at some marriage insecurities. Made me think about the strange ideas me have. Will not give “Spoiler Alert” for the ending, not what I expected. Great read.

This is the story of Laura and Tom who are madly in love and often dance around their kitchen together. Laura thinks that couples who dance together stay together. Her bubble is burst when Tom brings Carly to stay with them. Carly is a dancer in a show that Tom is producing. How will this affect their marriage?

This was an ok holiday read, mildly funny but quite predictable.

My thoughts:

I couldn't wait to start this book I had heard good things about it from quite a few people so I was hoping to be impressed.

So what did I think...

All of the characters in this book brought something special to the story. Most of the characters were pretty likeable even if they had their flaws.

Jerry was brilliant with his bold and brash personality but I loved that he wanted to help Tom make the Halloween show a success.

Tom was great but I think he acted without thinking sometimes which ended up causing problems with Laura. I loved the enthusiasm that he got when putting the show together though.

Laura could be annoying at times but to be honest on some occasions I could see things from her point of view. I have to admit there were certain points in the story where I wanted to shake her but this was definitely down to her insecurities.

Hannah was one of the quieter characters so the more you read the more you get to see her personality come through.

Will was intriguing especially when you find out he has feelings for someone but that it is a secret. I couldn't wait to find out who it was!

Carly was so much fun although maybe not so much if she was spending time with your husband!

Amy had some great put downs and I couldn't wait to find out what she would say next.

Even though there are a number of characters in this book I never felt confused or felt like the plot suffered. It was actually refreshing to see things from multiple points of view. It kept things interesting and I felt like I got a better feel for the story and the characters. I do wish I could have got to know Amy a bit better as I loved her fiery temperament but this is only a minor thing.

I loved the fun plot especially as it involved dancing it made everything that little bit more over the top and entertaining. There are plenty of comical moments especially coming from Jerry he had some brilliant lines. A giant inflatable crocodile has to get a special mention too, definitely sums up Jerry's personality!

Overall:

All of the characters were so much fun to get to know and were well written. I almost missed my bus stop on the way to work one morning I was that engrossed at one point!

I pretty much read this book within two days, I would have finished it sooner but life with young children and work means I can't read all day. Even if I sometimes wish I could!

If you are a fan of anything to do with dancing this book is perfect for you!

Strictly My Husband is a fun filled journey into dancing, friendship and relationships.

Five stars from me!

You don’t have to be like Craig Revel Horwood to realise that this book might have SLIGHT hint of a popular Saturday night TV show waltzing through it! After all, you know you have found THE perfect relationship when both of you sit on the edge of your seats, rating the celebrity dancers on the TV. Match made in heaven or a perfect ten! But is it though? What about when your dancer husband invites another professional dancer to stay in your marital home, without consulting you first, or letting you know that…oh I don’t know, the dancer has two glitter balls attached to its chest? Is that a perfect ten? Or will the strictly curse strike again?

Laura and Tom have such a ‘comfortable’ relationship, they have their routine and are full aware of each others likes and dislikes. To be honest, they should do, after all, they’re married! I gelled with them both straight away because of how ‘real’ their characters come across as. People do sit at home rating the Strictly dancers, and now, thanks to Tracy’s book, I’m sure a lot more people will be proud that they do!

I think that it’s such a cleverly written book as it incorporates the essence of such a popular TV show, with a modern day relationship. As the storyline progresses, Laura and Tom’s own story takes over from Strictly and we get to learn more about their lives, as well as the lives of the people close to them. There are definitely a few colourful characters in this book, especially with one or two being a tad like marmite.

Not only does ‘Strictly My Husband’ have the dance factor, the hilarious one liners and sarcasm, in my opinion, override that completely. Absolutely hilarious, this book is definitely laugh out loud worthy. However, I did find parts of the storyline to not flow as well as some other parts did. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed read it overall!

‘Strictly My Husband’ was the first book that I had read of Tracy’s, I had heard she was funny, but I didn’t realise how dry her humour would be. She manages to add on point humour to an otherwise difficult situation whilst adding the fun factor the book (aside from strictly, obviously).

‘Strictly My Husband’ is such a fun, vibrant and unforgettable read that will have you picking up your dance shoes quicker than you can say Darcy Bussell! If you were against emphasising your bits and bobs in fuchsia pink lycra, Tracy Bloom will make you think otherwise with ‘Strictly My Husband’!

**Book given via Netgalley for an honest review***

Another humorous, relatable, chuckle fest from Tracy Bloom! I’ve read two other books of hers, No one ever has sex on a Tuesday and No one ever has sex in the suburbs and and this is up there with them.

Tom and Laura are happily married, Tom an entertainment manager at a theme park and Laura a market research analyst. All is well until one day Tom arrives home with the glamorous, long legged, blonde, super talented Carly who he announces is going to be their new lodger and star of his new show. Cue jealousy and paranoia from poor Laura, who is convinced the pair will be hit by the ‘Strictly curse’ and fall in love with one another! There are lots of strictly Come Dancing references so if you love a bit of strictly then you’ll love this book even more!

The friends and relatives within this story help it to be a wonderful book. Everyone knows a Jerry! Loud, brash ‘man of the moment’ type of guy. The conservations between Tom and Jerry (!) and Laura and Hannah are brilliant and very relatable!

‘Are you real? Replied Jerry. ‘She’s stunning, and……and her moves when she was dancing -oh my god- in your dining room, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven for a minute there’.
‘Well, I guess I’m around dancers all the time so you kind of get used to all that’.
‘What the near nakedness, the perfect bodies, the sheer…bendiness – you can’t get used to that surely? That decaf shit must be doing something to your manhood’
Tom couldn’t deny that the odd exciting thought did pop into his brain every now and then but he thought he’d learnt to shove them to one side and get on with the job.
‘They’re just people like you and me’
‘If I had a body like that I’d love myself even more than I do now’
‘Not possible’,replied Tom, shaking his head.
‘But fair play to you mate, for getting her in the door past Laura. Oh my God, what I would have given to see her face when you arrived home with that’.

It’s a fun read. I’d like to see Jerry in another book, he was laugh out loud funny! Strictly My Husband is a fun, easy, heart warming , slice of escapism for the likes of you and me! I’m now off to read the other stories of Tracy’s that I’ve missed!

*A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review.*
Laura can't dance but she loves it when her husband Tom are dancing with her in the kitchen late at night and nobody is there to see. But one day Tom comes home with an unexpected houseguest.
The story is interesting and funny but also sad because I think reading this book will get you to reflect on your own marriage/relationship and that can be scary. We can all use a reflection upon our relationship even if it's something we don't like to do. And there is a secondary story of Hannah and Jerry who's marriage is to say the least, a disaster. That could easily have made a new book.
I must admit that I thought there was to much focus on the play Tom is managing in the beginning but at the end of the book I could see how it was essential for the context of the story.
Tom seems like a weak man with no backbone but as I got further in to the book I realised that he's just like most man - they really don't know what women wants. Laura isn't helping by not communicating what she want, and she's like most women - we think our man can read minds.
This book is written in a fun, easy way so it was a joy to read it. I liked this book very much and I'm discussing with my self if it's a 4 or 5 star, but because I really like for people to read this book I will give it a 5- and hope others will enjoy it too.

I received a free ebook of this title, Strictly My Husband, from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I was drawn to request this book by the description, not the reference to the popular TV show. The book is about a marriage between the practical, analytical, data driven Laura and the more free spirited, creative, dancer Tom. It seems like an opposites attract situation until Carly twirls into their lives. Tom is on the staff of a theme park running the entertainment side of things and Carly is a new performer. Not only is Carly with Tom at work, but she is renting a room in Tom and Laura’s home for the performance season and it goes without saying she is beautiful. The plot also involves other mismatched couples, jobs in peril, laughter and friendship. The story is on the surface about marriage and how to have a good one. But it is also about asking for what you want or need, not just expect you partner to know and finally accepting that dreams change. Your dream life at 20, may not be what you want or need at 40.

So, do marriages between opposites last? Will Laura take that dance with Tom? Who is Will secretly pining for? To find out the answers you will have to pick up a copy of your own to read. A fun romantic story and you don’t have to be a fan of Strictly to enjoy it!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Strictly My Husband is a light read with a few chuckles thrown in.

I found the main character rather annoying, although we all know the jealous type! To be fair, I think I'd be pretty pissed off if my husband invited someone to stay without consulting with me. But Laura's jealousy seems to take her over.

Carly is talented and beautiful, everything Laura feels she's not, but I didn't find much depth to the character. She did seem to fawn over Laura's husband Tom, but I think I expected a bit more to happen with this character.

There was also a couple in an unhappy marriage, with neither partner appearing to admit to their problems. Hannah is tired of Jerry's constant ogling and spending; he thinks she is a killjoy. I found their issues were resolved in quite a sweet way, if a little too nice for real life

My favourite character is Amy, Tom's acerbic assistant. She has the courage to say what everyone else is thinking - she's great.

The story has a good pace to it, and is full of natural flowing dialogue. It's told from several of the characters POV, which gives some insight into their thoughts and feelings. This shows how differently people can perceive a situation to great effect - seeing Tom's version of events vs Laura's is often hilarious.

This book is pure light-hearted escapism.

I decided that to document my reactions, I will write it immediately.

I would like to thank first Lawsome Book and Netgalley for giving me advance copy in exchange of my review.

Okay... For the first few chapters.... What the hell is wrong with Tom!!????? He's.. I don't know but.. What the fudge!?? I mean I'm married so I understand Laura. Why did Tom make a decision without even fudging consulting his wife???

So after continuously reading the story, I realized I am not fond of theatrical thingies unless it is a love story.. (*_*) Anyway, there's a lesson learned from the story. It is to say whatever it is in your mind to your husband. It is bad enough they have the so-called "Male pattern blindness" worst they're not mind readers.

I also got the reaction of "what the eff is wrong with Hannah!??" well now I understand (in the latter part of course!). I am happy with the ending for Tom and Laura. A bit sad for Hannah and Jerry.. but I really like Jerry's optimism and his 'fun' side. After reading this, I wonder what will Will talk about with Tom.. I think its about Hannah noh?

Thanks to Net Galley & Lawsome Books for an ARC of this book.
It's a light romance about Tom & Laura and their friends Jerry & Hannah. Both couples are married and ticking along then Tom brings home a surprise lodger who definitely helps stir things up a bit. Tom is going to be working with Carly on a daily basis as they are both in the entertainment business, Laura finds herself insanely jealous as Carly is not only very talented but full of confidence, sexy & attractive.
Tom & Carly have the leading parts in the show they are working at & Jerry is offering his companies electricians & other tradesmen to help with building stages, lighting etc just so he can be around all these young actresses where he finds himself fitting in much more than he does at home.
Laura is constantly worrying that Tom has fallen for Carly & is leaving her, Hannah is worried she had never had a ro,antic moment until she dances with Will the quiet electrician.
Laura is avoiding the last night party until encourages her to size the moment & tell Tom how she feels, she is struggling to listen & watch as Tom is making a speech & is wanting to award flowers to his leading lady.

Strictly My Husband is an amusing story about a young married couple Tom and Laura. Tom works as an entertainment manager at a theme park and all is going well until he arrives home one evening with a gorgeous dancer Carly who just happens to resemble his ex, announcing that she is going to be a lodger for a month. Laura’s mind goes into overdrive as she suspects that something is going on between them as she is an avid viewer of the TV show Strictly Come dancing and believes she can spot the @Strictly Curse’. There are other characters with storylines in this book, which is just as well, or else it wouldn’t be such an entertaining read.
