TED Talks is a comprehensive handbook for learning the now-famous TED talk style. TED is a world-renowned conference series founded by Ricky Wurman and Harry Marks in 1984. The book provides tips, tricks, and practical advice to readers who wish to become proficient in delivering effective speeches. The skills described in the book can be applied to a work presentation in a small conference room or a lecture in front of thousands of people. Even though many Americans fear public speaking, the art of giving a great speech is just another skill that can be learned. There is not a single, set style for delivering a great speech. Speakers must find the style, preparation method, and delivery that works best for them. While it is important to focus on developing presentation skills, the first objective of all speakers should be to ensure they have an idea that others will find useful or edifying…       ·      Overview of the Book ·      Important People ·      Key Takeaways ·      Analysis of Key Takeaways   With Instaread, you can get the key takeaways, summary and analysis of a book in 15 minutes. Public speaking, even to small groups, scares a lot of people. Even someone as wealthy as tycoon Warren Buffett was once so afraid of public speaking he would almost throw up at the thought of talking before an audience. This does not, however, have to be the case. Anyone can learn how to make effective public speeches—provided they have something worthwhile to say.
Summary of TED Talks by Chris Anderson from Instaread is a comprehensive analysis of a how-to book based on the conference series founded by Rick Wurman and Harry Marks in 1984. This 15-minute summary is a step-by-step analysis of a book by TED’s curator, British entrepreneur Chris Anderson, who is now the owner of TED. It includes the author’s personal experience in delivering speeches, and has sections on such activities as using visual aids in your speeches.
This is an outstanding way to get an overview of a new book without having to buy it first. It’s like flipping through the pages of the offerings on the book rack at the drug store on a Saturday morning.

From the title, it is clear that TED is an acronym, yet the origin is never mentioned in the book. It was necessary for me to do a Google search to learn that it refers to “Technology, Entertainment, Design.” Furthermore, there are no specifics regarding the tactics that make up TED. All that appears is a sequence of statements about how valuable a skill the ability to speak publicly is and how applying the TED principles will help even the most glossophobic person succeed.
I do not know whether the failure to include some explanation of TED is the primary responsibility of the author of the book or the author of the summary. Whatever the origin, any explanation of a book that describes the value of a technique without the most basic explanations of what that technique is must be rated a failure. Even two solid paragraphs of explanation may have been adequate.
