Daisy Harlow discovers her long-term boyfriend isn’t contemplating a proposal but rather how to get his mistress out of the house before she gets home. As if things can’t get any worse, broken-hearted Daisy gets fired from her job at the Post Office.
Stuck living with her best friend and tormented by three children under the age of five, Daisy needs a fresh start and she needs it fast.
Enter her least favourite customer Mrs Haversham. Daisy finds herself offered a few weeks away in Mrs H’s country cottage in Norfolk. Time to recharge her batteries and think of her future.
Thank goodness Mrs H’s son is married though, she can do without her matchmaking efforts. So who’s the dark haired hottie currently occupying a bedroom of the cottage? He says he’s Mrs H’s other son. One who Daisy knows nothing about. Frazer reckons he’s an actor, in Heydon to land a part in a new film.
One thing she is clear about. He’s refusing to budge and as she has nowhere else to go, he’s going to have to get used to a housemate. As the boiler breaks, temperatures get cooler but tempers get hotter. Each one wants the other one out of the house.
OMG I have tears falling down my cheeks as I write this! I'm pretty sure they are from laughter and maybe a dash of absolute bliss!
This book is exactly what it says on the tin, it's a romantic comedy and I'm not quite sure which side I love most but together its the perfect mix and I FLOVED it! Its the perfect blend of romance and comedy and I dare anyone to be disappointed by The Bunk Up, because believe me it won't happen!
From the very first pages I was absolutely smitten with Daisy. I loved everything about her. She has a wicked sense of humour and the journey I, as a reader, took with her was bloody amazing! Through her ups and downs she is a joy to read and get to know. Her world is one I could happily live in and never get bored, especially she is with her best friend and her delightful three children. Daisy's growth as a character and in her relationships makes this a book I will happily keep coming back to, time and again. Cue man candy, Frazer. Together Daisy and Frazer are the perfect comedy duo, with out ever knowing it. Frazer will have all the ladies who pick up this book swooning. He is H. O. T. Hot and he definitely knows it but don't let that sway you. Under the ego is a man that will have you eating out of his hands or lap and not once complaining! Although they get off to a frightening start, the two very soon become the perfect pairing and fun is had by both, they bounce off each other and will keep you completely engrossed with the words Dawn and Andie have written and you will forget everything else going on around you.
This book is going straight on my favourite list and will have you laughing, out loud, falling completely in love, with the characters and the story, and wanting more, especially from Daisy!
And make sure you have room in your heart for Mrs.H because once she gets in there there's no shaking her!
Well done ladies, this is a phenomenal read and I can't wait for the next instalment!
I was really curious when I heard about the pairing of these two authors. Having read books by both, I knew that they were quite different in their writing styles, as well as the sub-genre their work usually falls under.
D H Sidebottom is one of my all time favourite authors. She is incredibly talented and I always find her books intense and emotive. I've only read Andie M Long's Alpha Series (which was reviewed by Fictional) which I also enjoyed.
The ARC I received was well written and edited but unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me.
To begin with, I rather liked Daisy, who's not having the best week. Anything that can go wrong has and she finds herself staying with her best friend and her three loud children. However, as the story progress, I found her rather annoying - which is not a first for me - I don't often connect with a female lead.
My major pull with books, is a male lead that I'm drawn to or one who intrigues me, keeps me guessing. I love a egotistical alpha who knows what he wants. I'm sad to say that I just didn't get Frazer at all. I found him immature and egotistical but not in a sexy way.
The best parts of this book, for me, were the hilarious antics that the two lead characters get up to and I laughed out loud more than once. There are also a few cringe worthy moments, which suited the characters and added to the overall feel of the book.
I respect these authors and the way they're able to bring their ideas to life but on this occasion, it just wasn't for me.
I didn't find this book sexy or hot but if you're looking for something to read that's going to make you smile and laugh, I'm sure you'll enjoy The Bunk Up.
I can’t believe this book was written by 2 Authors it is so well done I would not know which Author wrote which part but it doesn’t matter.
The Story is about Daisy and how her Life is going Downhill fast, she catches her Boyfriend in bed with another woman which in turn makes her want to get away as everything just seems to be going wrong for her she loses her Job her home. She goes to a cottage in a small village owned by Mrs H who offers her a place to get away too.
What Daisy didn’t expect when she got there was for another Person (Frazier) to be in the house.
It is only a one bedroom! Both as stubborn as the other refuse to leave so they end up bunking up together.
The Characters are so lovable and you connect well with them even the other characters in the book are great and well. Daisy’s Mother cracked me up so much, she is just so funny
I really couldn’t get enough of this book it is so funny and I really cannot wait to see what Dawn and Andie come up with next.
Brilliant!!! honestly this book is a laugh a page. Daisy finds her boyfriend cheating so moves in with her friend and after talking to a dear lady she agrees to get away to her cottage where she quite literally falls into bed with Frazer. The scenes between Daisy and Frazer are absolutely comical from their first meet right to the end, which trust me is seriously entertaining, thrown into the mix is a village pervert, a film crew and Daisy's mother who I loved but mind you if that were my mother I would be horrified Definitely great reading very well wrote and fantastic mix of character's already looking forward to the next one.
From start to finish this book tickled me. I'm a huge D H Sidebottom fan but this is my first taste of Andie M Long-they have collaborated so brilliantly together to bring something so fresh & light hearted to fans.
Daisy & Frazer were just so incredibly lovable that I was flipping pages to keep up with them! The Bunk Up was a real smooth & easy to read book, with just the right amount of anticipation & a brilliant character line up!!
I am not into this kind of writing. The humor is a little crude and not clever. Two cases in point:
- The parting goodbye of the female character to her cheating boyfriend "Thank you for being a dick with a small cock". - The male character is no better. After thinking how crazy it is that his brother uses toilet role tubes in his art: He makes money out of used loo rolls and my life is so shit I need the toilet tissue.
And the characters act in an irrational way - just to set some kind of poor joke.
- When she discovers her cheating long-term boyfriend with another woman in her bed, the heroin walks to the bedside table, takes out a box of matches, and compared the size of his dick to a match. Uh? - She packed her belonging to move out, she went out to buy a dog bowl and dog food so she could leave the following note with it: I've left dinner out for the bitch. Buying stuff for him/them, even in revenge is the last thing to do. Especially since Daisy just bemoaned the dire state of her bank account.
Daisy life is going downhill fast. Catching her boyfriend in bed with another woman means she has to move out, then she loses her job and she's at rock bottom. After staying with her friend Kathy and her family (Kathy is fantastic), Daisy knows for the sake of her sanity she needs to find somewhere else and fast. When an acquaintance offers her a cottage to stay in while she gets herself together, Daisy jumps at the chance. Frazer is skint. Looking for work as an actor, he's decided to stay at the family cottage til he gets back on his feet. Unbeknown to him, he's soon going to find himself with a room mate. This book is hilarious. Not just Daisy and Frazer but the other characters are brilliant too. We all know, or are, a Kathy and family, which makes her even funnier. Daisy's mum is another funny odd ball character that had me crying with laughter. And Frank!!!! I loved no filter Frank. This book has a very realistic feel to it, the humour is my kind of humour, the characters are funny, likeable and real. I found them easy to relate to and the actual story kept me hooked.
I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is described as a romantic comedy, and boy they were not wrong!! OMG I was in hysterics from the word go. Daisy and Frazer were absolutely amazing together, and the chemistry between them scorching. I am totally in awe of these two authors on writing such an amazing and entertaining book. I sincerely hope that we are lucky enough to have more from these two. Highly recommended!
I got given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I blummin loved this book! Had such a charm about it. The banter between the two main characters is hilarious and it has just the right amount of seriousness to give the characters credibility. I literally smiled on every page, even breaking out into a laugh several times. I'm defo going to buy this on paperback as its now one of my favourite feel good books that I can see myself reading over and over again.
Andie Long and D.H. Sidebottom gives us a hilarious, laugh a minute story! I couldn't stop laughing while I was reading it. My husband thought I was going insane.
What a lovely read. I laughed out loud with the humour in this book, particularly Daisy's Mother and of course Frank! Well actually the book was filled with lots of one liners which had me chuckling away. The story I enjoyed, the characters I loved and I cannot wait to read more of this series.
Reviewing on behalf of Relentless Book Chics Ramblings and Reviews
I love DH Sidebottom’s dark books but I haven’t read anything by Andie M. Long so I thought I’d start with The Bunk Up.
Daisy has been with her boyfriend 8 years and thought her life was all worked out until she went home one day and found him in bed with his mistress.
As if that isn’t bad enough, Daisy also gets made redundant from the Post Office so now heartbroken, homeless and jobless, she’s forced to stay at her best friend’s house where the evil pixies also live (her friends 3 children).
The light at the end of the tunnel comes from an unexpected source, Daisy’s least favourite customer at the Post Office Mrs Haversham who offers her cottage in Norfolk as a getaway for a few weeks so she can get her thoughts and feelings straight and relax.
The village of Beydon is small and everyone knows everyone else’s business and when Daisy arrives she meets some interesting characters in the village square. Finally at the cottage and looking forward to going to sleep, she’s horrified when she finds a man already in the bed.
Frazer is Mrs H’s other son who Daisy knew nothing about but as both of them insist they are staying at the cottage, they come to a mutual agreement that benefits them both and decide to “Bunk up” for some no strings fun.
The boundaries of their agreement begin to blur and both of them are quite stubborn which makes for some really funny scenes and Daisy’s mum causes a few problems too.
I enjoyed this story and liked all the characters; some of the situations Daisy got into were hilarious. Daisy’s mum has to be the most embarrassing parent on the planet and I cringed when I read some of her scenes. There was a bit of everything, humour, friendship, romance and reunions. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a light, fun romance.
Collaboration of two great writers and a book well worth reading, that will put a smile on your face and have you chuckling and laughing out loud. Daisy's life is sailing along nicely, she works in the post office, has a loving boyfriend of 8 years and good friends, until one day she catches her boyfriend in bed with another woman, looses her job at the post office and her life comes tumbling down around her. Mrs H, a lady who has been driving Daisy mad by popping into the post office and insisting that only Daisy serves her, takes Daisy to heart after a meltdown in the local chemist and offers her her holiday home in Norfolk to get away from it all for a couple of weeks. It sounds like heaven to Daisy- that is until she arrives and finds that the holiday home is already occupied by Frazier McNeil and with only one bedroom between them things get mighty complicated when they both refuse to leave. I loved the book as the mannerisms of Daisy are funny and she loves her little rants and is a feisty young lady which Frazier doesn't expect, he has a battle on his hands, and when Daisy's mum Shirley turns up too, OMG you are in for a treat. Talk about embarrassment and a dirty mind to boot, it made her one of my favourite characters. Frazier himself is hot and swoon-worthy but at times I wanted to punch him in the face - hard !! he could be so infuriating. This book isn't just funny, it is romantic and the added sex scenes are hot !! There are secrets that pop out from the woodwork to make your eye's fill up and your heart ache just a little and Mrs H turns out to be the darling you never expected - I loved her. Love both of these authors and would recommend this book be read as soon as possible , with a follow up to come called The Dust Up I can't wait to see what these lovable characters get up to next time !!!!
Daisy is happy with her normal life, working in the post office, and dreaming that some day her boyfriend of 8years will one day propose. She thinks she's happy with this until one day a bomb is dropped on life as she knows it, and then a second, and everything is turned upside down. After a huge melt down in the chemist Daisy is comforted by Mrs Haversham the old lady she's previously tried to avoid like the plague when working at the post office. Mrs H has a proposal for her and Daisy regrets being so mean to the old lady. Now she's leaving her hometown of Chesterfield and moving into a Cottage in Beydon Norfolk for a few weeks. What she doesn't expect to find when she gets there is another house guest- Frazer McNeil! With only one bedroom in the house and both Frazer and Daisy refusing to leave, the idea of the 'Bunk-up' is born!
I couldn't get enough of this book, read it in one day because I didn't want to put it down, and now I'm sad that it's over. It's the perfect mix of funny and romantic and I found myself smiling an chuckling the whole way through! Daisy changes as soon as she gets to Beydon and it's definitely for the better. Absolutely loved hers and Frazer's antics! With terms like 'foo' and 'twatwaffle' I was in stitches, Daisy is unique and loveable and her little rants just make the entire book! Her mother Shirley has got to be the most embarrassing mother ever and it's hilarious just how much she manages to embarrass Daisy!
I can't believe this is written by two authors it's put together so well, and I can't wait for the next instalment 'The Dust Up'! Five stars from me!
What a good collaboration between Andie M. Long and D H Sidebottom. The story was very true to life; funny and touching. The characters are just so familiar, I felt as if I have known Daisy for years. Daisy's Mum, Shirley, is just super inappropriate on a hilarious way! I wouldn't want her to be my Mum but I would love to know her! She has no morals, manners, dignity or decorum; all this makes it fantastic to read. So cringe worthy! The story was well paced and I loved the outcome. Daisy has been in a relationship with Marcus for 8 years, she dreams of a perfect wedding but he has yet to propose. Daisy is sacked from her job in the post office; last in, first out. She comes home to find Marcus in her bed, having sex with another woman! She leaves him (quite comically) and goes to her friend’s house; her friend with three 'evil pixies' for children. A regular 'pain in the butt' customer from the post office, Mrs Haversham, comes to Daisy's rescue, offering her the use of her cottage in Norfolk, for how ever long she needs it. Daisy arrives in the one horse village and finds she will be sharing the house with Mrs Haversham's secret son. Hilarious times ensue and wires are crossed. You have to read this…the ending is just fabulous.
Daisy is having just the worst luck in life. She is losing her boyfriend, her job, her house, and her self esteem. In order to take control and get her life back she decides to take up an acquaintance's (Mrs. H) offer to stay at her cottage in a small town. This is where Daisy will meet Mrs. H's son and badboy, Frazer. Frazer helps Daisy along the way channel her inner sexy while still maintaining to be the kind and wonderful girl that she is. Frazer and Daisy agree to be a friends with benefits type of deal. What happens if one of them falls for the other? Is there more to bad boy Frazer than we think? This book will make you laugh, cry , get angry and then laugh all over again. I loved the back and forward between Daisy and Frazer. They have sizzling chemistry. This was a hysterically sexy book from minds of DH Sidebottom and Andie M. Long. I am a big fan of DH Sidebottom's work and this was different from her other books. Andie M. Long is a new author for me, that being said I can't wait to read more from her. I thought these two did an amazing job with this story. It was funny and sexy from beginning to end.
OMG!!! I loved this book! There are so many laugh out loud moments! The sex scenes are so real since things don't always go as planned, with hilarious results! Even with the humor in the book, the story does deal with some serious issues: betrayal, an adult dealing with the emotional baggage of being abandoned by his mother, a mother dealing with the emotional baggage of abandoning her child, and revenge(hilarious revenge!). All the issues are dealt with in a realistic manner but the book is never dark and broody. Of course, love and romance are the main themes.
I truly enjoyed this well-written story. Some of the characters could have come across as complete stereotypes or caricatures but they don't, thanks to the writing skills of Andie M Long & DH Sidebottom. The story is chock-full of quirky characters and I would love to see all of them get their own book.
I can't decide if my favorite scene involves handcuffs or a dog costume and Thor. Intrigued? Good. Grab a copy of this book and see what I'm talking about.
I'm a massive D H Sidebottom fan and when I found out the was going to join together with Andie M Long I couldn't have been more intrigued. Having read all D H Sidebottom books and loving each and every one and then reading the ball games series I really didn't know what to expect. what I didn't expected was to laugh so hard all the way through a book that I was snorting like a pig into the small hours. I laughed right from the first to the last page reading it in sitting. The book flowed really well and the two authors complemented each others work throughout the book. This was definitely a five plus star read for me and I'm hoping that this will not be the end of this partnership.
I seriously cannot explain just how much I loved this book!!! So many funny and laugh out loud moments. I'm still smiling as I write this, thinking back on this witty, sexy story.
After discovering her boyfriend of eight years balls deep in another woman, Daisy Harlow escapes to a quiet little town and manages to turn it upside down. Meeting Frazer and agreeing to a bunk up ( no strings sex) she decides to start having some fun. But the fun times don't last for long with the arrival of Daisy's mother and a call from the ex.
I highly recommend this for a perfect Summer read whilst on holiday with the girls.
Oh, I am in love! The minute I heard these 2 were writing a book together I knew it would blow me away but I wasn't expecting this whirlwind of a trip.
I've laughed, full on belly chuckles. Tears were streaming down my face. Memories of farting during sexy times flooded my mind. I got a bit sad, I got a bit angry.
The writing is phenomenal. (I was expecting nothing less) I love the storyline, I love the characters, I love the start, middle and end. In fact, there isn't anything about this book I don't like.
If you're looking for a fantastic romantic comedy written by 2 of this country's finest indie authors, then this is the book you need to be buying!
Wow!! What a story ....a great collaboration of two brilliant writers. I loved Daisy from the very first page, she's a young lady down on her luck who has a wicked humour and attitude! Then there's Frazer.... you can't help but fall in love with his bolshy arrogant butt and wish he was yours. Oh my God I could write about all the characters in this story, every single one of them will have you laughing at some point. It's a light romantic comedy that will have you falling in love whilst laughing your head off, it certainly helped me keep on my toes. Dawn and Andie has wrote a fantastic story and I can't wait for the next installment
wow, what a fantastic book, I just couldn't put it down. this book had me laughing out loud, the banter between the characters was just so funny. I fell in love with the main characters as well as some of the secondary characters. this book is a lovely light hearted read. these authors together have bought you a fantastic swoon worthy and laugh out loud characters, amazing story and excellent writing. I definitely cant wait for more from both of these authors.
Having just finished Caged and Chained, 2 brilliant but dark books by DHS that completely blew my mind, I needed something on the lighter side. I couldn't have found a more perfect book. The laugh out loud moments were coming so fast that at times I couldn't catch my breath.
What I loved about this book was.....well, everything! I'd love to say it was Daisy and Frazer's sense of humour, but that was matched and at times beaten by Daisy's mum, Shirley. I can't, for the love of money, put my finger on what were my best bits. I just loved it from start to end.
I would encourage everyone to read this as it's that good.
This is the funniest book I have read in a long time. I was hooked reading the lives and hilarious antics, of these characters. I was in stitches most of the way through. Daisy comes out with crazy words and sayings and Fraser has no filter saying and doing whatever he wants whenever he wants. They were perfect for each other. I love reading when two authors co-write, this was written so well I could not tell which was which, I hope to hear more from Dawn and Andrea, and hope that there is more on the lives of Daisy, Frazer and the rest of the residents of Beydon.
This book was awesome! I have laughed so much through this whole book. Daisy is a great female lead character. Frazier is a great male character. The two of them together is fantastic. I would highly recommend this book. It is written very well. I can't wait for the next book.
A really funny story about an innocent to relationships girl who then has hilarious encounters and ends up a stronger person. She is monitored by her nutty mum and surrounded by the many other vivid characters. A funny, fast paced, well blended read
Laugh out loud funny... The best books this year i have read... If you need a pick me up then start today.. Have all my friends reading an laughing along to....
