Storm chaser Max Grady can already feel it: there’s a tornado coming to his hometown of Chance, Nebraska. Max is going after it, and the only person he wants by his side is police officer Bree McDermott, fellow adrenaline junkie, his best friend, and the woman Max has secretly been in love with for years. But when a close call with a tornado leaves them lip-locked, Max knows that the danger is only beginning.
Bree is always up for excitement. Her close and sexy encounter with Max is unlike anything she’s felt before, and she wants more. As they work together to help clean up Chance, the air between them crackles with sexual tension. But Bree has a tendency to look ahead to the next thrill, and Max knows it. Now they’re all tangled up as they chase the strongest force of nature on earth: love.
Erin Nicholas is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun.
She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they’re shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).
This is second in a series, though I don't know what (if anything) that means. Well, besides knowing that this one starts about the same time the first one does and that if events in the first are any indication, Bree is much slower on the uptake.
I'm ditching out really early because Bree is kind of insufferable. She's all "I need risk and adrenaline" and the thing about that kind of personality is that it's kind of inherently selfish. Or, at least, the way Bree phrases everything it's all about her and her wants (call it need all you want, girl, but those there are wants) and it doesn't matter who else gets caught up in the fallout. Max seems like a nice guy. I kind of hate that he's all wrapped up in this self-indulgent, needy woman. He can do better.
It was skydiving. That would always be more exciting than law enforcement in a town where people stopped to let squirrels run across the road.
‘I’ve read your blog… I even understood the big words’ … Okay, she had needed to Google a couple of the words. He didn’t need to know that.
He was the only thing she could imagine being better than liquor at making her feel good. Maybe she should tell him that. He needed to have sex with her to save her liver.
I know that you go all in, that when you’re in a moment, that’s all that exists. That’s what I want – to be that moment where you’re fully there and there’s nothing else that matters.
My Review:
Tangled Up is a combination second chance and childhood neighbors/best friends to lovers story. The character of Bree was initially difficult for me to care for – she was a self-centered narcissistic thrill seeker; impulsive, flighty, immature, restless, easily bored, and had a rather short attention span. Max was a much more endearing character, observant, considerate, smart, and insightful. Having been raised in a rural area known as a “tornado magnet” Max had become a storm chaser as a teenager, which he turned it into a vocation by becoming an expert on reconstruction and a professor of meteorology. He had left his small town at age eighteen but returned periodically to see his friends and family and engage in daring outdoor adventures with Bree to indulge her adrenaline rush tendencies through skydiving, zip-lining, hiking, etc. Bree experienced an epiphany of sorts while up close and personal in a ditch during a tornado with Max, and started seeing her childhood best friend in a new light. She had taken him for granted all of her life, and despite knocking on thirty; she had never stopped to consider her future, assuming he would always be her traveling companion and fellow adventurer. But Max had contemplated the future and was just about out of patience with Bree. The storyline was sprinkled with amusing observations, humorous banter, and steamy and spicy sensual bits. The narrative was written from a third person POV while the plot was a bit slow to evolve; tending to be somewhat circular with a bit of re-treading of the same troublesome issues during the characters’ inner musings. I did enjoy the dawning of awareness for Bree and her ice cream metaphors, although I now have a rather extreme craving for a hot fudge sundae.
Slick's 3 star review I have always loved Erin Nicholas’ work so it pains me that Tangled Up fell a little flat for me. After much deliberation, I realized that the problem lies in that this is the second book in a three book series and this book basically takes place at the same time as the first book so I felt like I was re-reading a good portion of the first book during this one, the thing is I don’t know what she could have done to prevent that as still make each of these books be able to read as a standalone story. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it like I did the first one in this series and the rest of Ms. Nicholas’ other work. Given that this book takes place during and the weeks after an F5 tornado sweeps through the town, it is a bit chaotic which is too be expected but at times I felt like the romance had too many stops and starts and given the long standing friendship between this couple, I felt their communication skills should have been better, but I did enjoy watching them finally, finally figure out their feelings for one another and the fact they wanted to be together I just grew weary of their path to get there.
While I had some issues with Tangled Up, I still enjoyed the banter, the friendships, and the way the community pulled together to help one another and rebuild following the tornado. From the events in the book, it seems like the third book will take later in the timeline so I am very much looking forward to reading it.
Rosalie's 5 star review Living in Nebraska is the perfect place for anyone that loves disastrous weather and storm chasing. Chance, Nebraska is no exception. Chasing after a tornado at the beginning of Tangled Up led to Bree McDermott and Max Grady stumbling upon something that both have known for many years; they weren't just friends, they were compatible in every...way...possible. From the very first steamy kiss scene after touchdown, to the very last one, these two had heat the had my Kindle needing to cool down!
I will say that the road for these two was not absolutely perfect and Bree, from the very beginning, was beginning to worry about her addictive ways. In real life, people aren't perfect and a lot of books have characters that are perfect from beginning to end. While I have loved these books, I loved that Bree was able to realize her potential for addiction and was able to gear in another direction; the direction being Max. With Max knowing FOREVER that Bree was the one that completed him, and waiting on her to realize it....le sigh! I loved that even though Max had been through women (he obviously wasn't a virgin!), he knew that there was something missing. Seeing the pieces click for him as they did Bree warmed my heart!
Ms. Nicholas has always been one of my go-to authors, but t his was BY FAR one of my best friends to lover books I have read!
Chance, Nebraska is a Tornado magnet. Bree McDermott is a local police officer, even though throughout her childhood she was probably best known to the police for being a hell-raiser. Even now, she enjoys any kind of adrenaline rush as she jumps out of planes, goes white-water rafting, climb mountains etc. Max Grady has been Bree's best friend since they were children. He's now a storm chaser and general big shot in Oklahoma but one a month or so he comes back to Chance to see Bree and partake in whatever extreme sport she has deemed flavour of the month. Max has been 80% in love with Bree since they were teenagers but he knows that she bores easily and doesn't share his dreams of settling down and having a family.
I got a few pages into this book and realised with a sinking feeling that I had been less than thrilled by the first book in the series. I believe my overwhelming feeling was that there were three women who held important, responsible jobs in this town and yet somehow they needed three men to come back to town and fix everything. When Max made some particularly offensive comment about never being able to hang out with a girl who got scared by storms, he could sleep with them but he couldn't spend real time with them, my heart sank. Oh, the agony of having requested a book from NetGalley when you disliked the previous book.
But I misjudged. I liked this book so much better than the first book. Yes, Ma x was a bit of a know-all asshat who thought he could tell Bree what to do, but Bree frequently pointed out that he was wrong. Bree kept strong throughout, OK I personally would have liked to see more of her taking charge professionally rather than helping Max all the time but she was funny and believed in herself.
The Chance novels are heavy on the detail of tornadoes - how a small town copes when it sits in tornado alley and gets hit time after time. How small town emergency services cope with devastating natural weather patterns. The books also delve into the characters' pysches: why does Bree chase the next adrenaline rush? What does Max want from Bree? Why can't Bree hold down a job for more than a year? TBH, a lot of it made a great deal of sense.
Overall, this is heavy on difficult relationships and our own preconceptions, the tornadoes definitely take a back seat.
Having actively disliked the first book, I rather liked this, I still got a vibe that all professional women just need to be dominated in the bedroom but luckily (for me) this was more in the abstract than actual events. Now I'm just waiting to find out what happened between Kit (the psychiatrist) and Dillon (the emergency doctor). Can't wait.
I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I really like this series but I was annoyed by the 'repeats' when the story covered the same ground but from a different perspective. It was not fun to have to read the dialogue over again ... and over again. But, I loved the romance here .. I just wish the repetition had been avoided.
After reading Jake and Avery's book, I was really looking forward to reading Max and Bree's book. I also can't wait to read Dillon and Kit's book. It was nice seeing how things from Jake and Avery's book carried over into this book. Max and Bree have been best friends for most of their lives. Max is back in town for their 10 year high school reunion when an EF4 tornado hits Chance, Nebraska for the third year in a row. Max is a storm chaser and Bree loves going with him. They're out on the road when the tornado hits and they have to take cover in a ditch. Some things happen in that ditch that send them down a completely different road than they've ever traveled before. This isn't your standard friends to lovers story. These friends have tried the lovers route over the years with no success. Will they find their way to HEA? It's definitely worth reading to find out how they do. I loved the Sapphire Falls connection that popped up as well.
I really like Erin Nicholas' stories. And I really love the best friends to lovers themes. This one a lot. Bree was fascinating to me. She was full of life, a hard charger, and wanted to do everything. I hated the parts where she doubted herself, these made me feel sad for her. She was so vivacious that I wanted to smack Max upside the head. He was gorgeous, supportive, and a great guy, but he made me crazy at times. I loved that he wanted Bree more than anything, but I didn't like his doubts.
There was a part towards the end where Bree gave a speech that had my heart swelling and tears in my eyes because what she said was just so beautiful and profound in her relationship with Max. I loved this story from beginning to end and will gladly read it over and over. It will be one that I would love a revisit several years in the future.
I have been a loyal reader of Erin Nicholas and always excited to read a new book, and they are always first on my list (and I have over 1300 books waiting to be read) but no matter I always read hers as soon as I can. Tangled up is the second book in a new series. As always Ms Nicholas sets her stories in towns you want to visit and introduces you to characters with whom you want to have coffee.
Now about this story, first off loved that it takes place in the exact same time frame as Twisted up. A storm is brewing and making its way to Chance. Max is in town for the high school reunion and has his own reunion with Bree. I loved that some scenes from Twisted up were now being seen from another point of view!!!! I also enjoyed that the story started with Max's POV and he has some great lines " He wanted to settle down with a woman who was allergic to the idea" He has been chasing storms and Bree for years " that is some serious symbolism. "he went to places and did things he always to do, the only problem is that he also wanted to do Bree" I have to stop quoting lines otherwise I will give the story away and there are so many to quote.....My one issue with story was that there was too much repetition of certain story lines, his knee and her wanting to do so many daredevil activities. It was mentioned too often and used a bit as a crutch for both characters. Otherwise it was fast paced, characters were likeable and I was so happy to see Jake, Avery, Dillon, Kit, Frank and Shelby. Can we have Shelby's story please!!!
I would like to thank NetGalley and Montlake Romance for the ARC of "Tangled Up: by Erin Nicholas. When I first started reading this book, I had the feeling of deja-vu. and familiarity . I was absolutely certain I had read this book. Actually, I read the first book "Twisted Up" by Erin Nicholas. There is alot of repetition and familiar characters from the first book to this one. The story takes place in Chance, and revolves around tornadoes and storms. Max and Bree are the two characters that this novel centers around, as well as the characters from the first book. Bree is an adrenaline junkie, and a very complicated character. Both Max and Bree have been friends, and both would like more in their relationship, which is extremely complex. I do like that Erin Nicholas shows the importance of friendship, family, love, and community. In addition it is nice to see everyone work together to build Chance back together after the tornado. The genre of this book is romantic with lots of sexual tension between the characters.
Max and Bree are best friends and love adventure. And Max loves Bree. But after dating in High School for a short time, Bree broke up with him because he was boring. When Max comes in to town for their high school reunion and a tornado hits they team up to do some storm chasing...and when the tornado is barreling towards them and they hit the ditch on the side of the road, their adrenaline takes them to another level in their relationship. Bree isn't sure if she's just turned on by Max because her life was in danger and her endorphins were stirred up or if she really loves him. Max is afraid that Bree will get bored and hurt him...again. Max wants to move back home but will Bree still want him around when he is there all the time?
I loved that the characters were true to their feelings and that you got glimpses of what else was going on during the tornado.
The second book in the Taking Chances series by Erin Nicholas takes place concurrently with Twisted Up (Jake and Avery's story).
Jake and Avery started us on this tornado story in the first book in the series Twisted Up and now the same story continues from Max and Bree's point of view in Tangled Up. Max and Bree have been best friends since they were little kids. That has never changed throughout the years. They do all the exciting and dangerous adventures together. Max just doesn't think Bree can settle for normal and ordinary. Bree has been raised to always push herself farther and to do more. So even she isn't sure what she can handle or if she can be what Max wants. Reading this story I fell in love with both characters. While I could see Max's point at the beginning, I'll admit I wanted to slap him a couple of times and tell him to open his eyes. LOL. Bree is an incredible woman. It seems anything someone asks of her, if she doesn't know how, she will learn it. They are a very strong couple individually and together. They have definitely kept part of my heart in Chance, Nebraska
TANGLED UP, the second book in Erin Nicholas's Taking Chances series was fantastic! Max and Bree, the two thrillseekers, and best friends since childhood were a perfect match. I really liked that Max is the first to realize he's in love and that he wants them to seek adventures together forever.
Once again EN had my complete interest right from the first page. Terrific characters, humorous dialogue, engaging storyline, hot steamy sex scenes, and the setting of Chance, Nebraska... okay mainly the folks who live in Chance and are so easy to love. All great. You won't want to miss this one. 4.5 stars

Another AH-MAZING book from Erin Nicholas! In Tangled Up, you get to hear Max and Bree's story. If you haven't read Twisted Up yet, don't worry! It's stand alone, but the books take place at the same time, so you'll want to make sure you read the other story. (It was fabulous too!) This is a best-friends-to-lovers story, with a TWIST(ER)! Max knows Bree so well, he believes she is incapable of commitment. Bree knows Max so well, she believes him when he says so! In true Erin Nicholas fashion, she weaves the story in and out, so you never know which way the happily ever after will happen. BUT, it always is wonderful when it works out at the end! I cannot wait for Kit and Dillon's story!!!
Max is one tough nut to crack, "the corner of his mouth twitched, but he narrowed his eyes. “You’re going to bed alone, Bree. And you’re going to stop talking about your bed with me.” I liked the compliments Max paid to Brew, “the fact that you’re going out storm chasing still all sticky with ice cream from having sex with me. That’s really hot.” I really loved this book, I loved Max.
This is the second book in the Taking Chances Series.. and it goes above and beyond. Of course Erin Nicholas is an excellent writer who jumps right into the storm. The characters banter is the best thing. You will fall in love with in the first page!!
This is another good read with engaging characters and an interesting plot. A bit redundant if one read the first book, but I am sure New readers needed that part. Happy ☺reading 📚!
I’m going to call this my first real read of 2017, not because I’m an old coot who turns a nose up at near everything that comes my way (although it sometimes seems like it) but because I'd found myself engaged and absorbed in Max/Bree’s story for most of it.
Bree McDermott lives for the adrenaline thrill and at first glance, I’d associated her with someone who has that kind of compulsive behaviour that needs therapy at the very least. I’m glad to see Erin Nicholas pinpointing the complications of problematic risk-taking behaviour early on: that her restless nature cannot and will not permit the supposed attraction for Max to last beyond a tornado episode. That she was always seeking a newer, riskier high however, was an issue I’d waited to see if that would have been sufficiently addressed, because it seemed necessary before she and Max could move on together. But I also liked that Bree had some sense of self-awareness, that she wasn’t completely steeped in self-denial, or that she wasn’t a reckless, all-in female character who went on and on without a care for anyone else, although I thought there was definitely more to explained about when it came to the psychological issues behind how the death of her brother had affected her behaviour up until now.
For Max Grady, the attraction to Bree had always been there. Gut-deep, visceral and yearning…even though being tied to him, as Bree had once cruelly said, would have been ‘boring’. I could appreciate how Max was acutely aware of his desire never to hold her back, while recognising that she needed to see him for who he was rather than as the next high to conquer.
I was—pleasantly—thrown for a loop really: I’d expected the consequences of chasing the next high to be dire, leading to an equally, shouting-match dire climax, but Nicholas surprised me with that. Bree knew her own mind, had some personal epiphanies and while I kept waiting for her to run when the thrill wore off, she surprised me by not being afraid to see what she had been missing all along. Suddenly, it became about Max and his own gun-shy insecurities about not being able to keep up with her because he has made Bree’s noncommittal stance to be everything he didn’t want. Add to the strange ice-cream analogy, the story took off in a direction that didn’t quite conform to my expectations. And that wasn’t a bad thing, because I’d wondered whether this was going to be a straight-up story about unrequited love when it really wasn’t quite one after all.
But what I think I’m really looking forward to? Kit/Dillon’s story and judging from about of sparks generated here, well, let’s just say I’m more than up for it.
**Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**
"Tangled Up" is written by Erin Nicholas, and it is the 2nd book in her Taking Chances series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Max Grady and Bree McDermott.
Max and Bree have always been friends since they were little kids. They have always had feelings for one another, but it wasn't enough when they were teenagers. Their perspective on relationships were different. Max wanted to take it slow and romance her. He wanted stability, but Bree was all about the excitement and adrenaline. She didn't like to be bored.
Fast forward to the present. Max and Bree are still very close friends and care for each other deeply. Simply put, they know each other, and while the spark and chemistry is still there, they don't want to change the status-quo in their friendship.
But once there's a tornado that hits town, all bets are off. Max and Bree realize they need each other and that their feelings run deeper than friendship. But will their insecurities play a part in their relationship? Can Bree convince Max he's not just an ice cream flavor of the week? Can she romance him without it being sappy?
One thing that I'm really enjoying about this series is how this book and the first book, "Twisted Up", intertwine and are in present time telling the story through the respective couples. We saw how the tornado that hit Chance, Nebraska affected Jake and Avery. In "Tangled Up", we see it through Max and Bree's eyes.
I honestly have nothing, but praise for this story! Everything was just well-written and wonderfully told. I found myself reading certain scenes and smiling because these were the same scenes in "Twisted Up", but in either Max or Bree's point of view. It gave an interesting perspective that I applaud Erin Nicholas on. "Tangled Up" is a must read! I CANNOT wait to read Dillon and Kit's story!
Tangled Up took me to a place I have never even considered occupying - the crazy, and fascinating world of storm chasing. This different point of view alone made the book worth reading, giving a quick insight why someone could be fascinated by the subject matter and would be willing to put him or herself in harm's way to go out to hunt these potential natural disasters.
This steamy, and fast paced story brings us to a town that is plagued with Tornadoes and bad weather on a regular basis and sets all of the action right into the middle of this type of bad weather. Adrenaline pumping, and hearts beating fast, this story has plenty of emotional ups and downs as well as steamy scenes to keep me entertained.
Max, a storm chaser, and Bree, an adrenalin junkie are friends since school, but he would like it to be more, and she, well, Bree is young and has to learn a lot about herself before being able to connect on a deeper level with the only constant in her life. I enjoyed watching this young, and inexperienced character grow into a woman who is sure of what she wants, with the help of some friends, and a few steamy moments with Max.
He, on the other hand, is sure he knows her too well, and that she will never be capable of loving him, as much as she loves her. At least that is what he thinks.
This is a charming little story, and I truly enjoyed it as a stand-alone book. I have not read any other books by Erin Nicholas before, so it was nice that even though this is book number 2 in her Taking Chances series, it could be read without having to have read the first one, no extra explanations needed. I am looking forward to reading more of this series, though, because many of the side characters could make interesting love stories of their own.
I was given an ARC copy by NetGalley in return for an honest review
Tornadoes, plenty of likable characters inhabit the small, pleasant country town of Chance, Nebraska. This is the second installment to the series. I have not read the first in the series and seemed to be easy to pick up where the first book leaves off. Max Grady is some type of meteorologist that chases tornadoes and he helps the community rebuild and repair itself. Max has been life long friends with Bree, who happen to be driving out in the country in the middle of a tornado. Bree and Max dive for cover on the side of the road, in a ditch with a tarp and some sizzling, steamy sex.
After the storm, Bree who is a police officer spends her time helping Max with repairs. The two of them have been skydiving partners and vacationers together about once per month. Bree is an adrenaline junkie who after already many years prior was Max's girlfriend. She thought that his form of romance was boring so until they have that sexual encounter during the tornado they are best friends. Since they had their sexual encounter they decide to try it again in the men's locker room. Max is deeply in love with Bree and if she isn't going to be his girlfriend, he will go back to Oklahoma and continue their friendship. The community is filled with likable characters.
I knew this was in the romance genre and I was still surprised how sexually explicit and I would definitely warn anybody that is in the mood for a romance that this is quite graphic. I enjoyed the storm chasing and the idyllic community and setting.
Thank you to Net Galley, Erin Nicholas and Montlake Publishing for my digital copy in exchange for an honest and fair review.
Erin Nicholas has become a must read author for me and I jump at the chance to get my hands on whatever new book she comes out with. Tangled Up is no exception and, as usual, Ms. Nicholas does not disappoint. This book is the second in her Taking Chances series and she brings us back to Chance, Nebraska for Max Grady and Bree McDermott's love story.
Max and Bree have been friends for years and seem to have had a little "Will They or Won't They" thing going on as teenagers. Max is in back in town for the high school reunion and has his own reunion with Bree. But when the tornado hits town, everything changes for this couple of 'friends'. They realize they need each other and that their feelings run much deeper than friendship.
This book takes place at the same time as the events in the first story, so it is really interesting to see some of the scenes from different characters perspectives. You don't have to read the first book to understand the story because this one is Max and Bree's story as the last was Jake and Avery's. But if you have read the first book, it is great to see the scenes play out from a new perspective. You know what is going to happen, but how is it going to affect this story? It's a great plot device and Erin Nicholas uses it to her advantage.
As always, I highly recommend this book, this series, and this author to all romance readers!
Tangled Up is the second book in the Taking Chances series by Erin Nicholas. It can also be read as a standalone. This is Max and Bree's story. A story about two people who have known each other since childhood and have always had a close connection. They dated once in high school, but it wasn't their time to connect. They remained friends all these years and have always been close.
When I started reading this book, it took me back to the first book in this series starting with the tornado that hits Chance, but that is where the similarities end. Bree is an adrenalin junky who is always looking for the next fix, while Max is right there with her to experience these things as her friend, but is looking for something less exciting and more stable in his life. He wants Bree to be more like him even though he loves her for who she is. Bree finally realizes she wants Max as more than a friend, but can she convince him that what he loves about her is enough to keep her content to be with him? Can Bree and Max find a compromise and finally make it work, or are they destined to be friends forever? Max and Bree's story takes you on a journey through their ups and downs and is an emotional read, one where you are cheering for them to come together and make the connection they have always missed with each other.
I enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Tangled Up by Erin Nicholas is red hot read. Her characters are bold, sexy, and irresistible. Both Bree and Max are the kind of people that others can trust in...and respect. Both care about their town, Chance. A tornado comes destroying it. Leaving both our heroes to clean it up...
There is a lot of heat. Max tries his best to ignore the way Bree makes him feel. Best friends for twenty-five years. Now, he's super aware of everything Bree does. He's doing his best to not take her on the spot. Chasing after the crazy weather leaves them both in danger. Not just physically but emotionally as well...both Bree and Max will have trouble storming it now. Max keeps Bree from being injured. She helps him...and then all bets are off. They make one choice they may finally affect the friendship they have had. It where it will take them is the mystery. Tangled Up is indeed perfect for this book. Both characters get tangled up in more than one way. Erin Nicholas has created the perfect romance. A contemporary that brings readers deep into their lives. I felt like I never wanted to leave. The novel was written in a highly engaging way. Entertaining and intriguing. The intimacy and tension of the relationship inside was powerful. Overall, Tangled Up is a definite must read for all. I loved it.
wow what an amazing 2nd book! i didn't think i could love this series more than i do right now. i have laughed, cried, yelled, and my heart is so happy right now. Bree is an energetic, strong willed thrill seeker. She is always on the go and trying new things. She loves helping out her community of Change and loves ice cream also :-) Bree has always loved learning new skills. She is best friends with Max. Max is a work hard, play hard kind of man. He loves storm chasing and doing construction and lives in Oklahoma. He is in Chance for the week to help with the reconstruction from the tornado that just hit. Bree and him are working as a team to get the projects on track. while they are working together something keeps sparking between them but does it ignite?
In this second installment of the Taking Chances series from Erin Nicholas, we get to know Max Grady and Bree McDermott a bit better as the town of Chance, Nebraska works to recover from the latest tornado that hits the small town. These two are interesting characters. Max is great. He and Bree have been buddies for a long time. Both adrenaline junkies they've had many adventures together. Max is ready for their relationship to take a more serious turn but Bree is happy with the way things are. Will these two make it through their tangled up feelings in one piece??
This story is very well done and while I did find Bree truly annoying, the greatness of Max saved the story for me. I think everyone will enjoy this book and I highly recommend it.
ARC provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, so here goes...
Overall, I enjoyed this book and am glad I took a chance on this new-for-me author.
I admit that I had a hard time getting interested in this one, but at about 20% in, I was hooked. I loved Max from the start; it took me a little longer to warm up to Bree, but I ended up liking her a lot once she faced her feelings for Max. I was glad she didn't spend the majority of the book in denial. The book didn't follow a typical romance plot, and I really, really liked that. It was a refreshing change. This is the first book that I've read by this author, and I look forward to trying others.
Storm chasers have always fascinated me, one of my favorite movies was about one. That was a draw to this series aside from the small town factor. The time line somewhat parallel the what happens in book one with Jake and Avery. Right then I noticed Max and Bree had something brewing, well even when they were young at least for Max it seems. Being best friends ever sinceIt will be interesting to watch it boil over and then some. I liked that they were buddies before anything else.
Bree was always at the center of mischief growing up and this hasn't lost that. Adrenaline seeker but a strong female character who was also self aware. These two could have been great together, knowing each other and getting along well. Too bad that Max is looking to settle and Bree is always looking for new adventures. Max is a pretty solid guy, smart, dependable, adventurous, passionate, fun, and good friend. This coming storm might be the last one for Max and Bree for a while have to make the most of it. Maybe it could also bring people together.
It was interesting how Bree's adventure seeking ways reflect her psyche too. That there was deeper meaning in the why she move on a lot and can't stay steady. It also has an effect on her relationship with Max and if they can move on. I found the analogies a bit confusing at times, kind of went over my head in way. Maybe a mote direct approach, say something the song comes to mind. I like that it was smart and not the usual too. They had lots to overcome though.
I like sweet small town books and the residents of Chance are charming and endear you to them. What I like most about these books are the women hold positions of importance, very different but great to see. They may not always be strong but they're real. I still like this series and I'm eager for Kitt and Dillon's book next!
