The Vitucci Mafiosos #1

Defying Her Mafioso

Rate this book
Ciro Donati was many things:
My father’s most valued and trusted soldier.
My brother’s best friend and second in command.
And the only man I would give up everything for.

I fell hard for the Mafioso at the tender age of eleven. This beast of a man who I knew made people disappear—and probably enjoyed every second of it—was also the sixteen-year-old boy who had picked me up after I’d fallen flat on my face during my dance recital and told me I was the best ballerina he’d ever seen. He’s watched over me, protected me like I was the most precious thing in the world to him.

And then he sent me away.

Scarlett Vitucci was many things:
The daughter of the biggest Cosa Nostra boss from New York to Chicago.
The sister of the man I would gladly take a bullet for.
And the only woman I would ever love.

Sending her away was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I didn’t deserve her or her love. For three years I stayed away, ignoring the gnawing ache that her absence left in my chest. Now, she was back and fighting what I felt for her was impossible. Letting her go had been a huge mistake.

One I would never repeat.

This was definitely an entertaining mafia romance. The characters were interesting and the plot was engaging. There were many side characters and a few side stories as well. A MC Club was introduced and although I haven't read this author's work before, it read like these characters existed in other stories. If someone could verify that for me, that would be super! I think I'd enjoy reading more about them. As for the additional side stories, this book had three romances going on. It's just that one got more focus than the others.

Scarlett has loved Ciro ever since she was 11 years old. He fell in love with her when she was 17. At 18, he persuaded her father to send her away, convinced that though he loved her, she was better off without him. They pined for each other during their time apart and their love didn't wane. Three years later, Scarlett's back and Ciro is determined to never let her go again.

My only real complaint about this story was that I kept looking for more. I wanted more out of the plot and more out of the characters. I continuously felt disconnected because nothing was really resolved. Yeah, the main characters got their HFN, but because there were so many extra elements to this story, I was hoping for some resolution on those points as well. I hope the more I was looking for is given as the series develops.

I am an adrenaline junkie. More so I am a Mafia junkie. The prologue in this story is so hyped that I literally had to step away and collect myself because I was like dayummmmmm! What a way to start a story! I knew this book could only get better from here.....it didn't.

Scarlett and Ciro are boring. Their relationship is boring. No umph. No excitement. Nothing. I skimmed the sex scenes because they are too vanilla. Scarlett's twin, Tor, and her drama with Adrian offered more interest and drama than Scarlett and Ciro.

The story is choppy. The story started out with a serious adrenaline rush, leveled out a bit, and fell flat. Too many words without anything of substance being said or ground covered.

As usual with any of my reviews less than four stars, please consider other reviews if making a decision to purchase. My review is my personal opinion of the content of the story ONLY.

I read this after His Mafioso Princess, so much of it was a repeat and made for a boring read. Truthfully, had I read this first, I still think I wouldn’t have been happy because I HATE when secondary characters constantly hijack the plot… and this couple takes the backseat repeatedly to set up the future couples.

Bottom Line- I gave up on this author years ago but still had two I purchased on my Kindle. It wasn’t bad but wasn’t really good either. I won’t read on after the next book.

This was a really good written angsty/anticipation romance set in a mafia background, where we face several subplots and possible 'love interests' as we wait for two main characters -Scarlet and Ciro- to see the fuckin light and realize they belong with each other in this game of push and pull, back and forward, hot and cold...

So, if your patience is high then I m sure you will excell in this 'waiting anticipating' game 😉

If there is one thing to know about me its that I love Mafia books. I devour anything and everything that even suggests mafia. This book had just enough of the scene and hot guy to keep me interested.
This is my first book by this author and definitely will not be my last.

Ciro and Scarlett's story starts out just the way we all love with the man saving the girl. I loved Ciro right from the start. The rough protective guy with a heart of gold. Scarlett was no wilting flower and I love when the leading lady can give as good as she gets.

If you are looking for a quick read that will not leave you bored this is the book.

3.0 "VITA MIA" STARS!!!

Mafia books are my cup of tea. I love the adrenaline rush, the excitement, the thrill, the suspense and anticipation that keeps on building, the solving of pieces of puzzles and then added up with touch of romance, damn it's just perfect. When I learned that Terri Anne Browning will be releasing a book centered on Mafia life I was so excited. I am used to her Rocker Series and I have been a fan. I haven't read her MC books but knowing she'll venture into this plots I just can't help myself not to want the book.

Defying Her Mafioso is the first book of the series that follows the story of Scarlett and Ciro.
Ciro Donati was many things:
My father’s most valued and trusted soldier.
My brother’s best friend and second in command.
And the only man I would give up everything for.

Scarlett Vitucci was many things:
The daughter of the biggest Cosa Nostra boss from New York to Chicago.
The sister of the man I would gladly take a bullet for.
And the only woman I would ever love.

It started with the Prologue that really took my interest BIG TIME and I was thinking I was really in for a ride.
Ciro.
His name was like a balm to my mind if not my body. I wished he were there, but knew if he had been I wouldn't have been experiencing the pain was currently in. The person who had stupidly taken me would be dead for even daring to think of doing things that had been done to my body.

My adrenaline keeps escalating and I was just hooked.I keep on turning the pages and this is one of the reason why I love the author's works. She had this ability to draw her readers to her works. And Defying Her Mafioso is on of them. It's a good start of a series I give it that. In a way because we are introduced to the whole cast and their connections. Flashing back two weeks earlier, I was entertained with Scarlett's family and how they deal with each other. She and her twin along with her brother and father is a sight to behold and it's a different setting I usually read when it comes to mafia family so I was intrigue but appreciated that the love among family members that was portrayed.

The first part is full of action however I cannot really say I am sold to the story. I was left hanging and at times I don't feel any strong connection between Ciro and Scarlett. I get the relationship and how everything turned out so I was rooting for them. In fact, I was swooning with Ciro. I love the character he portrayed and Scarlett is no different too. She's feisty and kick ass and I adore her. No, I adore both of them. They could make a perfect mafia couple. But along the way, my interest was shifted towards the other twin. Maybe because the drama between the other twin was more stressed out than the leads. Other than that is the question that I have in mind that wasn't answered and I was looking for more packed action.

All in all though, it's an entertaining read. It's a lighthearted and I could say it's definitely the safest MAFIA book I read so far. And that Epilogue, it's cute and sweet.

Review by Lisa Kane

Scarlett Vitucci and her twin sister Victoria have just come home from being away in Sicily for the last three years. Her father, Vito is the biggest Cosa Nostra boss in the country and her brother Cristiano holds a key position.

Describing the Cosa Nostra memebers as simply bad men was like saying the Ebola virus was a really bad cold.

Scarlett was practically run out of the country by her father and Ciro Donati. Ah Ciro, he has been the object of Scarlett's fantasies since she was a child. He is more than aware of her feelings for her, and as much as they were close he couldn't let her become involved in his life. Ciro is Vito's lead Capo, and he does whatever dirty, filthy, ugly deeds need to be done. In his eyes this makes him a monster. Scarlett deserves a good man, not Ciro. Even if it kills him, he has to push her away.

Vito is determined to keep his girls safe. The family has many enemies and Scarlett and Victoria have a tendency to act like any normal twenty one year olds. They want to party and have fun. Scarlett is equally determined that she will not be affected by being back in Ciro's world.

"Seeing Ciro won't be bad. I'll pretend like the last time I saw him never happened and he'll go about being his normal, cold self."

But is Ciro as unaffected by her presence as he wishes he was? Not even a little bit. He wants Scarlett so badly he can just about taste it.

Victoria is getting herself into some trouble with one of her father's associates. Adrian Volkov is dangerous. He wants Victoria and will stop at nothing to get her. He has secrets that could break her heart and Scarlett is not about to let that happen.

Ciro is tired. He's been denying himself the one person he wants for years. He knows it. Vito knows it. Everyone in the family knows it. It's about time Scarlett knows it.

I didn't deserve her, but I'd destroy anyone who tried to take her away from me.

Defying Her Mafioso has intrigue and passion and suspense. What a great start to a new series! There are so many characters who deserve to get their own story-Victoria, Cristiano, Dante, Anya....there are a ton of stories just waiting to be told!

"I won't let you go this time, vita mia," he said as he released my lips and pressed his forehead against mine. His breathing came in harsh pants. "Don't push me away."

Fans of the author's MC series have been intrigued by Felicity's cousin back east for some time now. Finally, we get an inside glimpse at the Costa Nostra. Scarlett's father runs one of the biggest syndicates in the country. One of his best capos is the love of her life and the man who three years ago sent her away and broke her heart.

The story starts with a bang and has the reader sucked into the predicament Scarlett is in. Scarlet and Ciro have been dancing around each other for years. Ciro feels he is not good enough for the mafia princess. Scarlett feels like the earth and sun revolve around Ciro and she will take him as is. Life changing events sometimes make things a bit clearer for everyone.

It's a forgone conclusion that these two will end up together. The middle of the book kind of plods along but the beginning and end is packed with action. I love when the tough guy's heart finally melts for the one and only woman for him. And I liked that Scarlett was a bad a$$ in her own right. I was really intrigued by all of the secondary characters in the story. It was nice to see the guys from the MC helping out in this book as well. Lots more to tell about this mafia family, I think. Looking forward to Tor's book!

So. What can I say about Defying Her Mafioso? I liked it but unfortunately I didn’t love it. I think it started a good foundation for a series that could be great if done right. I liked how Scarlett wasn’t afraid to show her tougher side when need be, she started off as a strong female lead but slowly she started to become a little less strong. I am not saying that she became weak, not at all but I think she became subdued some if that makes sense? Ciro, good lord in heaven he is hot and at the same time frustrating as hell at times. The chemistry between these two is hot but I will be honest I am more interested in Victoria, Scarlett’s twin sister and a certain Russian mobster because that is going to be a very explosive story from what we have seen so far.

While I may not have absolutely loved Defying Her Mafioso I really am looking forward to reading more from this series and think this one will only get better with time.

“How could anything be wrong when I was there with the only person that mattered?”

“I was done chasing him. Done going to him for help. Done putting myself out there for him to stomp on my heart because he was too much of a pussy to take what I could give him. Done, period. If he wanted me, then he had to be the one to do the chasing.”

Defying Her Mafioso was a fantastic read from beginning to end. This book sucks you in from page one and has you begging for more. From the moment you pick up this book, you are hit with the amazing and undeniable chemistry between Ciro and Scarlett. The tension between the two of them is so thick and so palpable, you can’t help but burn through the pages to see how it all turns out, and I promise you, you will not be disappointed…

But, that’s not all this book has. Yes, there is lots of wicked good, and sinful sexy times, but there is a lot more to this story. This is an intriguing and captivating mafia story. It not only delivers with action and suspense, but also on the family front. The family is fascinating and they add a lot to the story. You can feel the closeness and just how strong of a family unit they are. I hope that Scarlett’s siblings will get their own books, because they’ve definitely peaked my interest.

Overall, I thought this was a really enjoyable mafia book. It captivated and entertained me. This story had the perfect mix of action, suspense, angst and romance. The characters are fun and have excellent chemistry.

I think this series is off to a wonderful start and I’m excited to see where this series will go next!

I was in love with this book, although I have to admit at times I was more intrigued with Victoria's situation than Scarlett's. I loved Ciro that man would literally kill for Scarlett, and with her he had a sensitive, sweet side, “first, I’m going to feed you. Then we’re going to shower— in separate bathrooms so I don’t make love to you against the damn wall— and then we’re going out.” I really loved this book, this is going to be a good series, the characters were lovable and I'm hoping Victoria's book is next.

Scarlett and Victoria (Tor), twins, 21 years old, lived in a world where few people could survive sane: they were daughters of the mafioso Vito Vitucci.
Super protected, they spent the last three years living with Nona, in Sicily.
Back in the United States, they found themselves in the midst of war that only the mafia knows how to create.
Their brother, Cristiano, sought to keep them out of trouble, but Tor didn't like to be controlled, so whenever she can, she found a way to bypass security and leave home.
Scarlett was more calm - apparently. Inside, she was always as an exploded volcano.
And her feelings were in seismic shock since her childhood sweetheart, Ciro Donati, one of the "capos" of her father and Cristiano's closest friend, was around her.
Ciro thought he should not get involved with Scarlett because his life was full of violence and blood on his hands.
With the arrival of Adrian Volkov - the Wolf - a dangerous and full of connections Russian mafioso, the girls became an easy target and currency trading.
When Victoria began to leave without security and Scarlett disappeared in a nightclub, Ciro realized that he could not live without her, and even with so many crimes committed, he would do anything to keep her safe and close to him.
Suspense, romance, sensuality.
In this new series, Terri Anne Browning brings a world outside of our reality, but that still could happen.
Crimes committed in cold blood, street gangs, trafficking. But with the romantic side of people in love, jealous, passionate, which often do anything to be with loved ones.
Delightful.
Can not wait for next one.

Great book! Told from Scarlett's and Ciro's POVs, and things get a little harried. As Ciro and Scarlett fight their attraction, the Cosa Nostra is being targeted. Can the two find their way to each other without tragedy striking or will it take a tragedy for them to see what's in front of them?

Scarlett's and her twin, Victoria's relationship make me wish I had a twin and was born to a mega rich family. Scarlett is feisty and takes no bull from anyone, while Victoria is super sweet, being able to wrap anyone around her finger and very fashion conscious. They are quite the yin & yang pair. I love their chemistry together. But enough about them. Let's get to the heart of the story...

Scarlett is in love with Ciro but he pushed her away, as in sent her away so he didn't have to deal with the fact that he is in love with her. Well, let's say, she is back and angry at him for sending her away. Will he ever feel like he is worthy of her love or will she realize she needs to move on?

There are some loose ends in this book. Not quite cliffhanger material, but enough left hanging out there so you want, nay, need to read the next book!

Grab this book while the getting is good and tuck in for a wild ride. I however, do not promise a Happily Ever After, but there may be a Happy Ending.

I have read several books by Terri Anne Browning and this book just proved why I love her books so much. She does such a great job giving us characters that will keep you hooked and engrossed throughout the entire book. The stories are full of angst, love, pain, some suspense, action, they have it all. Not only that but they will leave you wanting more from the other characters as well.

The two main characters Scarlett and Ciro have loved each other for years but he didn't feel like he was good enough for her and had her sent away 3 years ago. She is back now and with each passing day it is getting harder and harder fighting his feelings for her. Meanwhile she is trying to get past her feelings but is unsuccessful. He keeps hurting her by the push and pull that she gets from him. She has loved him since she was 11 but maybe it really is time to move on.

What happens when an enemy is out to hurt someone in the family? Will Ciro ever be able to get over his issues and get his woman? Will it be too late? Do they want the same things?

I highly recommend this book. I can't wait for more in this series. If you haven't check out this authors work this is another great book to check out.

OMG I LOVED THIS!!!! There was just enough mafia-ness (is that a word? If not, it is now LOL) mixed with what turned out to be a super sweet love story.

Scarlett has loved Ciro since she was 11. He's loved her as well, but he doesn't think he's good enough for her because of what he's done in position in Costra nostra. He had her father send her away three years ago when she told him how she felt. Ciro has regretted it every day since. So, when she comes back to New York, he is having trouble staying away from her. After a few back and forth scenes between them, he decides to stop fighting it and Scarlett and Ciro have a sweet romance going on :)

The mafia stuff going on is interesting with Santino Jr and the MC that is there to help find him. Victoria and Adrian's story is killing me! Neither of those got resolved in here so I'm guessing we'll see more of all of this in future books. Cristiano is interesting, as is Anya. Needless to say, I will read the rest of this series when she writes it :)

First I want to say another terrific read from one of my favorite authors. Terri Anne Browning-Author did an excellent job portraying the mafia world. This was her first turn at the popular genre and she knocked it out of the park with a tough chic heroine that you want to be bffs with and a hot as hell alpha male mafia capo. Ciro thought sending Scarlett away would make her move on he thought he could forget her. Nope not possible these two were destined to be together. I adored them as a couple the chemistry was off the charts. I especially loved the closeness of Scarlett and her twin Victoria I can't wait for her story. I also thought the other secondary characters were well thought out and played nicely into the overall story. I don't know which one is next but I will take anyone of these characters. Great start to a new series. Totally recommend. Received an ARC from InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

I freakn love this book! Grabbed my attention with the first sentence. The first page and I was all in and I didn't let go of my kindle until I finished. Terri outdid herself this time for sure. Becaue even though I was hooked on Ciro and Scarlett story, in the middle of reading it, I already dreamed of next book being available to dive in. So, it was kinda bittersweet ending. Love how the story concluded for Ciro&Scarlett. It was so beautiful, it made me smile. But I was sad a little that, I can't continue Vitucci journey sooner. I really fall for every member of that family. I'm eagerly waiting for the 2nd book.

I liked CIro and Scarlett story, i just wish author didn't push with Victoria and Volkov love story because in the end i was more interested in V&V then the original couple. All in all you have decent mafia romance with alpha hero and strong and independent heroine. Can't wait for book 2,i hope will be for Victoria and Volkov.

Not quite sure how I feel about this one. It started off strong, but in my opinion ended too abruptly. I understand that mafioso issues don't get solved straight away, but I thought it strange that it ended so suddenly. I guess the issues will continue in the next book but I don't even know when that will be coming out...

Terri Anne Browning is one of the first authors that I absolutely fell in love with when I started book blogging almost 10 years ago. Her Rocker Series is one of my all-time favorite series, and I have loved everyone of her books. I have reread them multiple times, and I have just cherished the moments with all of her characters. I truly can’t describe enough how much I have loved reading her books, which is why I hate that I’ve allowed myself to get so behind on them. But luckily, that means that I have so many to catch up on, and I was eager to start this one!

I had gotten some glimpses of these characters and other books that I’ve read by this author, but I was eager to jump into this new world and into a mafia romance. Admittedly, I don’t read a lot of mafia romance, but I loved everything about this book. I loved how there was a little bit of action in danger. I love that there were so much buildup and tension between these characters. I loved that this author Push these characters to the edge and to the point where they could no longer fight their feelings anymore. I loved how deeply connected they felt, and where they ended up together. I just loved every part of their story.

This author’s books are like coming home. They really are. They are just such easy books for me to read, and devour, and to love. This one was no different, and it just had me eager to get everything with these characters. I really couldn’t get enough, and I just loved that. I was so invested with them and that I was experiencing what I did with them. It made for a very enjoyable story from start to finish and it has me very eager to continue on with the rest of the series.

What’s not to like with a book that brings the Angels Halos men back in my life add to that some Mafia hotties and I’m a happy woman.

I loved that Scarlett wasn’t the shy type she speaks her mind and isn’t afraid to stand up to the men in her life.

Ciro the love of Scarlett’s life a Capo feared by many but with Scarlett he’s a different man.

Loved the danger and suspense running throughout the story.

What is it about a delicious bad guy (not to be confused with the typical "bad boy") that makes me drool?

As the daughter of the head of the Cosa Nostra mafia, Scarlett Vitucci is used to bad men in her life, but none hurt her more than her father's capo, Ciro Donati. Ciro backed away from his attraction to Scarlett, but now that she's back in town, he's finding it harder than ever to keep his hands off of her. In Ciro's line of work, anyone close to him can be used against him, and he just can't put the woman he loves through that. But staying out of trouble hasn't come easy for Scarlett and her twin Victoria, and a dangerous man has turned the Vitucci family and Ciro into a game of catch and mouse. Maybe it's best to keep Scarlett as close to Ciro as possible instead of turning her away...

DEFYING HER MAFIOSO, the first book in The Vitucci Mafioso series was FAB.U.LOUS. The tense tone begins immediately, the characters were introduced at a rapid clip with details about them coming through as the story progressed. Ciro and Scarlett already has an established, volatile relationship…they wanted each other fiercely, but Ciro had too much blood on his hands to think he could be a good match for Scarlett. But he can't seem to live without her either.

As the story progressed, the anger between them turned into fierce, yumtastic sex that had my kindle smokin' and my bedroom door closin'!! There were a few things that prevented me from giving this a 5 star rating, however. First, I felt like the danger element could've been so much MORE. The potential for a jaw dropping scenario or 2 was there, but that aspect really fell flat. Also, there are quite a few editing mishaps in here that were distracting. Even so, I enjoyed DEFYING HER MAFIOSO very much and am looking forward to more in this series!

Bottom Line: No OW/OM or sharing; no condom use; no BDSM; no kink; no sexual assault; murder/violence.

LOVED this book! I couldn't help but fall for the Vituccis, the Donatis, the Volkovs (well, at least Anya) & Mr. DeStefano (and we only got a taste of him!). There was a feel-it-leak-through-the-pages, true love between the main characters (YAY!), secrets (some which have yet to be revealed), INTENSE sex & no "other woman" drama (thank gods). It was totally unputdownable!

Ciro & Scarlett... They were so damn great together. Loved when they both confessed aloud that they were made for one another, loved how they supported each other, loved the panty-melting, set-the-sheets-on-fire sex they shared & loved the interactions between their families. Ciro was one sexy, powerful alpha male who had me dying for the chance to switch places with Scarlett, especially in certain scenes. *wink wink* And Scarlett, she was so strong, caring & feisty. Her & Ciro are one dynamite couple! #MafiaPowerhouseCouple

My heart is already breaking a hundred times over for Victoria. I'm totally confused with how things will work out for her & Adrian. (If that's indeed who she'll be matched up with.) Love the bond she developed with Anya (who is incredibly kick-a** by the way) but that betrayal of sorts by Adrian... Gah! I NEED to know more about his "situation" because he is ticking me off with what I know about him already!!

The only reason it wasn't a full-on 5 stars for me... I wanted a bit more action. I liked the rush I felt when Ciro went to save Scarlett but it felt a tiny bit too easy & it was over too fast. And it'll probably be addressed in Victoria's book but I would've loved to have heard more on what happened when she stayed in Chicago with Anya. Minor things really but that's just what I wanted more of.

Very excited to get my hands on the next book in this series! I see so many potential match-ups with Victoria/Adrian, Allegra/Dante & Anya/Cristiano... Can't wait to see if any of these come to fruition!! :)

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

In this book we meet Scarlett Vitucci and Ciro Donati. Scarlett has love Ciro for years but he never seemed to return her feelings. Sure they became close friends but there was always a part of Scarlett that wanted more. When she turned 17 Ciro convinced her father it would be best if she and her twin sister went to stay with his mother in Sicily for awhile. So for the last 3 years that is where she has been. She has now returned to New York and though she thinks she has finally gotten over her feelings for Ciro just the sound of his voice proves that not to be true. Can she get over her feelings for Ciro or will she finally have it all?

Ciro does love Scarlett but the man he is doesn't lead him to having attachments without his enemies using them against him. Scarlett is the most important person in his life next to his parents and he will do anything and everything to make sure she is never harmed. However it seems staying away from her has become harder and harder since her return. He knows what the right thing to do for both of them is he just wonders if he can actually follow through with it. Can he protect the woman that he loves not only from his enemies but from himself as well or will he end up loosing her in the long run?

This is another amazing hit by this author. It will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. There are many twists and turns in this book and you can see where some of the supporting characters will later need to have their own book. This book however will not have you disappointed in anyway. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
