It’s been six months since Tim and Jae got together, and they’re giving Domestic Discipline an honest try. But when conflicting events conspire to interrupt their life, Tim starts to fray at the edges. He’s doing his best to handle everything, but he still struggles with unaddressed issues, both past and present. And seeing Tim trying to hold it together is breaking Jae’s heart.
There has to be a breaking point, and when it arrives, it’s Jae’s turn to take the reins, to provide them both with what they truly need.
Nicole Forcine was born a strange child and former Georgia peach. When she was younger, she was never far from a composition book, a pen in hand, and way too many people in her head (she’s even been known to talk back to them). When two or more of them talk loud enough to overshadow the rest, a story is born. After years of writing and storing her tales in those books, she had a revelation: man, there are a lot of dudes kissing in these stories.
Her stories include themes of creating families of choice, how love can come in all forms and supersede all boundaries, and the joys and sorrows of earning a happily-ever-after.
Currently, she resides in Minneapolis with one of the most laid-back men in history and his even more laid-back cat. When she’s not writing (ha!), she’s saving the world/galaxy/humanity as we know it in the world of video games and general geekiness and opening other people’s mail for a living.
This is book 2 in the series and it picks up 6 months into Tim and Jae's relationship. I am glad we get to see what happens when these 2 men try the HOH lifestyle Tim needs. It starts out great but when both their parents come to visit and they cant spend time together Tim starts to falter. Add in Tim's past that comes into the picture and Tim is about to fall apart without his Sir. I enjoyed this story but wanted more inter action between Jae and Tim. There really was about only one BDSM scene in this story when book 1 had some really hot ones. You can still feel the love and support Tim gets from Jae and the rest of his made family. I just wanted more in this story. I wanted to learn more about Tim's kink and how they incorporated it into their lives. The ending was good but I just wanted more. Received an arc from publisher for a review. Reviewed by Jodi for Alpha Book Club.
I was waiting for Settling Down by Nicole Forcine since I read Shaken Up last year. This second installament is a nice short, well written and a pleasure to read. But to me it wasn’t so engaging as the first one.
Tim and Jae are still settling down (never a title was more appropriate), they are not living together yet, but the domestic discipline is working fine for them. Then the dom who badly hurt Tim in the past is in their town and Jae’s parents are coming to visit them the same week Tim’s dad is there. There is a lot on their plates at the moment. Can they find a little time for themselves?
As I said there are some secondary characters and new situations and they were well dealt, althought the book is just a novellas. Problem is they took too much space from the MCs’ relationship. I wanted more of Tim and Jae together. I would have loved to have just a couple of scenes where the domestic discipline was addressed, seeing how it worked, how they related to each other. I pretty much got nothing and I was disappointed. I missed all the hotness I recalled from Shaken Up, I simply missed Tim and Jae.
That said I still hope to have more about this couple in the future, they have more to tell us and I’m ready to read it.
The cover art by AngstyG follows the style of the first book. I like it.
When I requested this book, I did not realize it was the sequel to Shaken Up. Sure, the cover art looked familiar and I thought I recognized the author name, but it didn’t click until I really started reading. Tim and Jae felt so familiar to me, and when I went back into my stash and saw Shaken Up, I was thrilled! I had enjoyed that book and hoped there would be a sequel, and here it was!
Settling Down is a great sequel. It follows Tim and Jae as they are beginning to get into the groove of their relationship. They’ve discussed each other’s needs and while Jae is not completely familiar with Domestic Discipline, he’s willing to try it in order to give Tim what he needs. And boy, does Tim need it.
Just when it appears the characters truly are “settling down” into their new roles, a few twists and turns are thrown their way. Jae’s parents and Tim’s father plan visits. This means putting away the domestic discipline while they have visitors, and maintaining a carefully constructed and parental approved façade. However, when a certain someone from Tim’s past shows up at his doorstep, all of Tim’s hard-won feelings of safety are stolen from him. And without Jae there to settle him, he’s struggling to maintain his self-control.
I truly loved seeing the evolution of Tim and Jae’s relationship. Jae might be the Dom, but he has moments of uncertainty. He wants to be the best he can for Tim, but he is still unsure of himself in the realm of domestic issues. With his parents there as well, he struggles to bury his Dom in order to keep them in the dark as to his lifestyle. They know he’s gay, and they love Tim, but do parents really need to know everything?
And then there’s Tim. He’s come so far from the first book, and seeing him tossed back to the wolves was heartbreaking. I wanted to pull him into a hug and hide him away. Nicole Forcine does an excellent job of building lovable submissive characters.
If there is a sequel to this book, I will be thrilled. There is so much more that can be done with Tim and Jae, and I look forward to seeing what Forcine has in store for them next!
If you enjoy books with BDSM themes or elements of Domestic Discipline, I highly recommend this book. If you have not read the first one, Shaken Up, I recommend you do so first. It follows the events of the first, and some events may be confusing without the background information of the first.
Settling Down starts some months after Shaken Up, and while it’s great to see how the two met, Settling Down can certainly be read as a standalone, as the relationship is only barely begun at the end of Shaken Up. In the interim, the two have established a domestic discipline relationship that works well for them.
Tim has a number of quirks that need regular tending, and his need of a Head of Household (HOH) is abundant. Not a sub in the traditional sense, being a Taken in Hand (TIH) provides him with the boundaries necessary to maintain a sense of calm and purpose.
When Tim’s dad and Jae’s parents both come to town on the same week, the week prior to the Leather Ball, an event that Tim’s business is sponsoring, the chaos hits Tim hard. Then he finds out that the Dom that put him in the hospital is also attending, and Tim goes off the deep end. With Jae occupied with his parents, can he be the HOH that his overwrought TIH needs?
I enjoyed this story. The fact that it picks up six months later means that the reader misses out on the actual settling into the relationship, something that I was sad to discover. The plot is fairly straightforward, and the care and devotion that Jae and Tim have for each other shines through. Tim’s need for order and discipline are written respectfully, and although there is very little in the way of intimate scenes, what is there demonstrates the pair’s adoration of each other.
I would have liked more of the build into the pairing at the beginning or further development of the relationship on the tail end. They still feel somewhat as strangers to me, since I couldn’t really connect into the construct. However, I still enjoyed the story, and I’m rating it at 3.5 stars.

Settling Down is the sequel to Nicole Forcine’s Shaken Up, and continues the story of Jae and Tim. I really enjoyed the first book and was happy to see a follow up story, particularly one that focused more on the domestic discipline side of things as this dynamic was introduced in the first book, but never really explored. I liked seeing the men together again and viewing their relationship a few months down the line. It is clear these guys care for one another and are growing into their new roles. I also enjoyed seeing the bits from Tim’s sex shop and watching him interact there and with his employees. It gives a nice balance to show how strong and confident he is there in his element as he struggled with other emotional issues at home.
However, unfortunately I found this story somewhat flat. There are some nice sex scenes between them, but the physical side of things isn’t as strong here as in the first book, either in the intensity of the BDSM or the heat between them. The domestic discipline is addressed, but we don’t see it delved into very deeply here. Most of the book felt like watching these guys entertain their parents and interact with them, all while not dealing with each other very directly. I wanted more of the guys together, more exploring their new relationship dynamic, instead of so much time showing them apart.
When I got this book I didn't realize it was the sequel to Shaken Up. So happy!! I love Jae and Tim and it was great to see them back and navigating their relationship. Gloria is awesome as usually, as are all new characters. I hope there's another book coming!
