And what a year! In 1955, Walt Disney's dream of a theme park, the first of its kind in the world, came true. Disney historian Jim Korkis' entertaining tale of an American pop culture icon is power-packed with details, and the most thorough account of Disneyland's early days ever published. As Walt Disney once "it takes people to make the dream a reality". Korkis never loses sight of the many people who built Disneyland, from famous Imagineers to obscure ticket takers. From their stories he crafts the epic adventure of how Walt conjured magic from an orange grove, with all the politics and the pixie dust, and the thrill of doing what no one had ever done before. Just a few of the highlights from Disneyland 1955: KORKIS IS YOUR "K-TICKET" TO DISNEYLAND...1955!
Korkis books keep getting worse and I think this is the last one I will read. Very little new information, he just rehashes other sources. He writes so many books that the quality has dipped.
A fascinating, fun, and very informative read. Korkis takes the reader on an entertaining view of what happened during the first year of Disneyland. We are also treated with facts that led to the construction of the park as well as what changes were made in the park after in 1956 after Disneyland's first year in operation. The author provides us with great anecdotal stories from those who were there that first day of operation. Some left, but some stayed and spent their entire career working for Walt at his park. Thank you to all of those who became members of Club 55 and paved the way for those of us who have been guests at the park for decades. If you have an interest in the first year of Disneyland's operation, this is a must read!
The behind the scene stories that take life in Jim Korkis book is wonderful. The people(almost unknown) who with Walt Disney showed motivation, determination, to make Disneyland this true icon today. Take the time and read these truly fascinating stories, that laid the foundation to what we have today.
A revealing history of the opening of Disneyland, including stories and anecdotes from people who were there. The author has written much on Disney, and they are interesting books if you're a Disney fan.
